Great to see Lee getting the attention he's deserved for so many years. He's probably the most influential trumpet player in America that no one knows. Once young musicians gain an appreciation for chops and musical complexity and sophistication, they discover Chicago and another generation is inspired. What has always impressed me about Lee is ability to memorize numerous 4-6 minute long pieces, often written by Jimmy Pankow, that are incredibly complicated and tortuous to play even with music much less without.

Feb. 7 2024. I agree about Lee singing solo and playing horn. I’ve listened to Chicago since they started. Never heard solo from Lee. And I’ve attended their concerts numerous times. We should have more. He’s got a great voice. ❤❤❤❤❤

Why on earth doesn’t Lee sing more often. He’s got such a great voice. I saw Chicago this past summer and Lee only sang one song. It was great.

Because with the horn parts being intertwined with the lyrics and playing constantly under verses, choruses and then horn section features, it'd be impossible to do both sing and play the trumpet part. :)

I'm so in awe of Mr. Lochnane. As a trumpet player in a Chicago tribute band I know the endurance pain of playing this material, especially trying to do a 90 minute set of it.

Chicago II dug a deep hole in my soul in the summer of 1970. I wasn't familiar with horn music, but I bought the album just because of "Make Me Smile" and "25 or 6 to 4". My mind was completely blown. It proved to be a watershed experience. I branched out to other horn sections and took a chance listening to jazz like Miles & Coltrane and was totally sold. I thank Chicago for a great change in my listening habits that continue as I head into my 70's.

Lee and Jimmy came in and spent the day with my HS band students in 1990. Its 2023 now and a former student (never played a note past high school) contacted me just last week to say how much it impacted him. Pretty satisfying! FYI Lee and Jimmy were wonderful, warm, and humble. They were so nervous about speaking face-to-face with 100 students/adults up close I had to bolster their confidence. “Hey, it’s harder up close than it is from the stage for thousands!” 😂

Lee does a great job filling in for Terry on vocals! Probably the best I've heard! He is also a super nice guy and talked to my brother and I about trumpet methods and equipment for around 15 minutes at a meet and greet in KC!
