Living in Chicago is a headache the crime, the boot man, the parking tickets/towing the weather, police random pull overs. Georgia is a better quality of life all around less stressful The birds wake me up every morning trees everywhere the air smells fresh. The parks are huge and amazing

Why not be honest about the real reasons that people are leaving? Politicians in Chicago and Illinois have chosen to focus on progressive ideologies rather than real, tangible issues. This is why people have left, and will continue to leave. I personally left 10 years ago, and have zero desire to come back.

There's problems everywhere.. but I can see why so many have left Chicago.. I left the area 5 years ago.. I do miss something's about it.. but every time I go back.. I want to leave quickly.. which is a shame because I was born and raised by Midway Garfield Ridge area.. in the 1990s I loved Chicago every bit of it even the early 2000s

Wow. This news team is so ignorant. They point to lack of diversity and loans as the reason for the population loss, while (mostly) ignoring the sky high taxes, crime, and red light cameras making the area less livable all the time. Meanwhile the city government is doubling down on the policies that brought these problems about. Hopefully, the people that moved out of Chicago will have learned from their mistakes and vote different people into the local government. Many people that moved out of California are simply repeating their mistakes (and expecting a different outcome) in Austin Texas.

I love my city. I moved for a relationship (that didn't work out). Now I have kids to think about. Sometimes I wish I never left Chicago and want to go back, other times I'm happy I left, but I'm always going back home because that is where part of my heart is. If I could have a summer home in Chicago and spend only the summers there I would be happy. 😂😂😂

Wait. Over 30 years, you are telling me that 1/3 of the people that left the Auburn Gresham neighborhood took place over the last 10 years? During the last 1/3 of the time period? Wow! Amazing reporting! 1:37

I don't care how much money is put into these neighborhoods, there is NOT enough money going into the safety of the residents. Anxiety is at an all-time high. I lived in the Bronzeville neighborhood when a group of young black guys pulled up on me on a Sunday afternoon, rolled down the window, pointed a gun to my face, laughed & pulled off (12/22). I moved to a far west suburb where I feel much safer. However, I side eye EVERYONE. Chicago is a beautiful city that doesn't love anyone.

I left after the Great Recession. I tried for 5 years to find a job and so did many of my peers. Now we know from data that Illinois barely grew after the Recession while other states outperformed Illinois by millions of new jobs above the level prior to the recession. Now you add Covid and Illinois is still underperforming compared to other places. Many more people will leave. Information is more available now than it was in 2008, so a person can get all the info they need to make comparisons. Add to that low quality of living, high property tax, high crime, high poverty, bad schools, bad government, etc, etc.

I've moved to a different area, but I was born and raised in Auburn Gresham. I never thought I'd leave Chicago, but I'm planning on it. With the high local and state taxes, corruption, extreme racial inequality, crime, and the teacher and police unions, I can't find a reason to stay. Investment in the community is awesome, and I wish the residents well. Just a side note.. even an improved Sav a Lot has gotta be among the worst stores. That store, in my opinion, has the poorest food quality out there. So sad

The INVESTORS DESTROYING HOMEOWNEHIP in black areas needs to be addressed. The investors have destroyed the homeowner market in black areas. They have oversaturates the market with so much low income housing it's no longer worth it to be a homeowner . The homes don't gain in value. Making it harder for black people to gain wealth.
