Vaughn called for SWAT because his team was quickly and effectively pinned down, and they couldn't get to THEIR rifles; in a situation like that, calling in SWAT is the smart thing to do. Have his team keep the shooter(s) occupied until SWAT arrives, storms the building - and matches firepower WITH firepower. Vaughn's superiors would EXPECT him to do that. Everyone knows that even modern-day automatic pistols and handguns aren't a straight-up match with front-line military rifles like the H-K G36C - a variant of which is the standard infantry assault rifle for the US Marines! Vaughn's team is pretty good (they're not the best shooters around, but they're so familiar with each other's moves and tendencies that they are a well-oiled machine in close quarter fights)....but even they're not an even match with people carrying that level of firepower (and, probably, ammo); plus, other than the couple of members of his team with former military training, none of them have a special weapons tactics background. The way most police departments are set up, a team like Vaughn's is somewhere in the middle between street cops, and SWAT teams - who are trained more like the military, than they are regular cops.

SeatBill I have a couple of issues with your comment firstly his name is voight not Vaughn and secondly a g36c is most definitely not a standard issue weapon for USMC nor are any of its variants. The USMC is however beginning to replace the M4’s ,M16’s and their variants with the M27 infantry automatic rifle (IAR) which is a variant of the HK 416 a very different weapon system to the G36 but made by the same company

Second, I draw your attention to this: "....a *variant* of which is the standard infantry assault rifle for the US Marines!" I never stated that the G36c WAS the standard infantry assault rifle for the Marines; I stated that it was a VARIANT of what the Marines carry! There's a difference between something being "IS," as opposed to it being a "variant" of something else! If you're curious about learning more regarding the difference, I can give you links to various online English dictionaries, and descriptions of the weapons described in the above posts! I'm glad that you seem to know a lot about weapons; I'm just sad that your familiarity with grammar, and descriptive language, doesn't seem to match it.
