I wrote an email to Toy Soldier Collector magazine,a UK publication,which has recently merged with a US publication,stating that a great entry level for younger collectors are plastic figures which are cheap.Unfortunately the magazine dedicates most of it`s coverage to expensive metal soldiers(one figure can cost £40!!!)and out of 100 pages usually just 4 are devoted to plastic.Young collectors cannot afford this;older retired collectors with no mortgage probably can.I hope Chicago offer a very diverse representation of our hobby and not heavy on metal....so to speak.Perhaps I`ll find out next year!

Agree! We spoke to Roger and many of the makers that were on site, they say most of the new collectors are coming to the hobby because of an interest in history. Another challenge since so little history is taught in schools now.

@@alexamuro9812 Hey Alex! I think there was a good mix, in fact maybe less of the expense metal figures than in the past. But we agree plastic is the way to bring them in. Hope you can make it next year, it was a great time!

I brought my godson to the West Coaster in '06 for his birthday! I told him I'd get him whatever he picked! Once that was done, he was bored and wanted to go! I gave him to key to the room and said cya! We grew up playing outside with cap guns...cops an' robbers or cowboys an' injury! Tonka trunks, .05 an' .10 bag of green army men! These kids today don't know how to play! Video games, internet and social media are their entertainment! No neighborhood kids, no hide and seek or kick the can! Says alot about no social skills today! Hah!

If you can make it happen it is totally worth it! If you can go for both Sat and Sun you can shop lots of rooms and then do the show.

My grandfather has a very extensive collection of lineol and elastolin soldiers as well as vehicles he’s collected over 80 years. Maybe around 5k pieces, any idea where I could go to get this collection appraised for insurance purposes?

Hey there Fish Sauce, that sounds like a huge collection! You could take a pic of each piece, or a pic of small groups and then compile a list. There are FB groups dedicated to these figures that might point you to fair pricing. There are also several books on Lionel and Elastolin figures. Good luck!

Hello. We know Orlando well! What area of metal are you looking to get? We don't know of any Orlando stores carrying Toy Soldiers. There is a South Florida Club. They have a show near West Palm Beach each year (unfortunately you just missed it for this year). We just added a video on a smaller maker Ted Toy. Great video but as a Canadian I could not attend due to the on going and astounding incompetence of your US federal government which keeps the land boarder to Canada CLOSED despite Canada having opened our boarder up in August. A LOT of anger on this issue in Canada as you might expect.

David, the show was very disappointed that the Canadian venders could not come, and the US venders really missed the Canadian customers! Hopefully next year things will be better and they will have "figured it out".

@@collectorguys I certainly did not blame the show for the US land boarder being effectively closed to Canadians. I am concerned that the idiots running your country, i.e. Washington, cannot seem to figure anything out and politicize everything.

@@alexamuro9812 No reason at all except politics and incompetence. The US and Canadians land boarder has been closed since March 2020. The US is a complete "shit show" and many Canadians are simply chosing to go elsewhere. It is cheaper and less hassle.
