Hi, Argentinean here... Great video !! In the 80s i loved Britains soldiers and had hundreds of them in plastic base. So now in my 40s i was really happy to see the "reissue" of them by the argentinean company so i could buy dozens and dozens again but at an affordable price for my nephews and son. The quality is a la par with the original ones. You can get the usual ones plus some local custom things like they changed some of the napoleonic era ones to make them look like our Grenadiers from our Independence wars from early XIX century against Spanish Royalists (white with red decorations). Even with regimental flags etc. Simply awesome!!

I cherish the memories of going to a store that was 90% furniture and home decor, boring for a kid but they had a toy loft with a large glass display cabinet filled with Britains toy soldiers. Walking up those stairs to that case to choose another Knight or soldier to add to my collection. A store clerk would have to come up the stairs to unlock the case to get the one I pointed to. The whole process was magical to me as a kid. I still have all to them today with all their parts.
@collectorguys Жыл бұрын
That is awesome that you still have yours! Yes, that famous cabinet was always locked! It was always interesting to run up and see what figures had joined the line. It's a testament to Britains that those figures were so well made and so many still survive today.

Agreed. The prices for lines like napoleonics, Apaches FFL and Arabs are getting ridiculous. I have bought quite a few DSG reissue FFL / Arabs to fill out my army. I'll just paint them to look like the originals and cast metal bases for them and they fit in well. But I really wish Britain's would reissue other lines like the napoleonics!

I've got a shoebox full of them. Got them as a boy in the 70s. I was obsessed with them when I was a kid and had way more than I do know. What I have now are mostly cowboys, native Americans, and some knights. I know I used to have Union and Confederate soldiers, but I'm not sure what happened to them. There was a local independent toy store that had them displayed in glass cases. I used to stare at them and my imagination just ran wild. I wanted ALL of them!

Admit as a 5 year old these were some of the earliest figures I bought along with the Herald figures. The medieval knights and the ACW my favourites. The best Deetail figure for me would be the 8th army vickers machine gun (perhaps influenced by the fact that my great Uncle was in the desert rats in WW2). The standing British Infantry Bren gunner my other favourite WW2 figure. The Swoppets ACW cannon would be my other favourite, managed to buy a mint boxed union one from the US about 10 years ago for about €20.00, an absolute bargain. Collected virtually everything Britains ever released in the early '70's from farm animals to a Police Landrover! New subscriber, best wishes from England.

In the early 1970's one of the couples who lived on our estate offered to bring me to London to visit Hamley's of regent street then as now the worlds biggest toy shop for some reason (I suspect they were just coming out of a vaguely bohemian phase and were now contemplating starting a family. The trip was a trial run at parenting). Back then it was The Hamley's, no branches and no on-line shop. I don't remember much of the day besides being taken to a restaurant for lunch where I ordered a fish that was almost as big as I was to go with my chips and of course Hamleys which back then was adorned with glassed in wooden cases displaying the finest toys of the predigital era including trains that ran beside the stairwells, toy cars that looked like little works of art and engineering and of course plenty of Britains Deetail toys soldiers. I came home that evening with what I am guessing was set 7348 a gift set of 12 German and 12 British figures with two thick and two spindly trees for cover. The whole thing looked so dynamic fixed into a plastic base in a cardboard display box with twist ties. I am guessing that it was probably late in 1973 or early 1974 when we made the trip as the set was only released in 1973 and the German's were on the orange/brown bases that were discontinued in 1974. Over the years bits gradually disappeared and bases got snapped off as careless parents and friends blundered across battlefields and their numbers fluctuated as new figures were bought swapped lost and found again. However I will never forget the thrill of opening that box and seeing them all in their place and thinking I had the most toy soldiers in the world.
@collectorguys Жыл бұрын
That is an awesome story, and so many of us have similar memories. I did get to go to Hamley's in 1976, never saw anything that came close!

I was mad on toy soldiers as a kid and had hundreds, mostly Airfix because of the cost. I only had a few Britains and lots of Timpo. IIRC The Britains were la crème de la crème at the time and were much better painted in memory than those you have displayed. I could not afford them and neither could my parents. I still have the metal guns, half the German motorcycle and sidecar, and the WW2 American boat in the loft somewhere. I distinctly remember playing with the motorcycle on the Great Orne in Llandudno on holiday. I must have been good to have been bought that! I also remember the Napoleonic French standard-bearer and officer being fantastic compared to the Airfix ones. Really well done and worth the price. It's hard to remember whether sets I had were Britains or Timpo, probably the latter. The cowboy raft and native canoe were produced by both and were very similar, except Timpo were unpainted and you could swap their hats and weapons around. And the buildings ... Thanks a bunch! Now I am wallowing in nostalgia. Bliss.

All of them are my favorites! Hahahaha! I didn't even know that Mexicans and Apaches existed until I started going to the West Coaster back in the early 2000's. I never saw them in the Toy Shop! The only figure was " Poncho Villa " that was sold with the regular Cowboy's. Those were my first Deetails purchased at Disneyland Frontierland in the 70's! The set I always wanted was the WWll Battleground Terrain but couldn't afford it as a kid then it was no longer available! A Taskforce set came out years later with the generic repainted GI's! The tell tale difference in later versions of Deetail is plug arms, slight changes in poses, oval bases instead of the rectangular and the plastic has a different feel! Especially with DSG recast! They did some repainting schemes to the Afrika Korp in Brown Shirt SA and Panzer SS to add to any WWll collection! Thanks! Really enjoy your videos!

My favorite were pirates! I'm not sure of the company, but the detail of the mold and the detail of the painting was incredible! The company name was on the bottom of the stand, but I just don't remember it! The stand and the figure was of a single mold. The stand was unique in that it was flat on the top and bottom, but on the bottom there was a border that followed the contour of the stand! My WW2 British infantry set had accompanied me in their box on holiday. Despite going into numerous toy shops whenever we passed one whilst on holiday,I could not find a set , so decided to buy something else as my two brothers had bought something. The very next day we went into a toy shop and I couldn’t believe it , there they were ,boxes of them stacked from floor to about six feet high and I had no money. I collect soldiers, cowboys and indians, knights, for years now. 20 yrs ago, they were very cheap. Now, prices sometimes go trough the roof. Timpo and also Elastolin are out of reach. I mean, its not fun in that scenario. I also have the cheaper "spin offs" from Hong Kong. They are fun to collect and watch. But I gave a new dimension to collecting. I did buy everything, also the damaged and incomplete ones. So, like I do with modelling, I repaint them, make them complete or change the whole figure. Now the fun has started. I do this with the Middelage knights. Now I have an army, all of different figures, shapes, poses etc. Still moslty in boxes. But I want to make a great diorama of it, on shows or displays or so. (After Corona) But, for the puritains under us... the original complete ones... I keep them in complete, good shape. No change on them!

Britains attempt to cash in on the Star Wars craze. Yes, they never sold well and only lasted a few years. IMO they should have stuck to toy "soldiers" and keep making new sets.

According to author/Britains insider Peter Cole the sculptor was really rushed to get those done, maybe that pressure led to that odd look. The figure throwing the spear is the best of the group, he looks very realistic (IMO).

In the late 70s my parents used to do homework of painting Britains toy soldiers and animals. I later did it to earn a bit of pocket money instead of a paper round. I used to really enjoy doing them. I wonder if anyone else remembers doing these as homework?

At 5.15 - those dudes are not the "Scots Guards". They are The Queen's Guards in ceremonial dress on guard duty at Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade and Windsor Castle. The Scots Guards were the Waterloo series and wore kilts.
@collectorguys7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, but you are incorrect. This video is all about Britains Deetail figures and these are officially "Scots Guards" in the catalog and in the line. They were released as such by Britains in 1977. They were meant to the first in a Regimental Series, but no more were made. Thanks for watching.
@sergioalmasy87227 ай бұрын
@@collectorguys Thank you for your reply and it's very interesting what you say. The uniforms (and the poses that were displayed on your film footage at 5.15), suggested quite clearly The Queen's (now the King's) Guard. Whilst Britain's Deetail label them as the "Scots Guards" this was most likely branded as such as a marketing thing, ie, it comes across as more marketable to label them as such to the younger market, ie, children who buy these soldiers for the purposes of field action, rather than ceremonial guard duties standing around doing not much. Sorry, but being a Brit, I grew up with this in the background of daily life; and also have many of these characters (somewhere in the attic). I invite you to Google these guards on duty outside these palaces and also on parade. There were what is known as "the Scots Grey's", a mounted regiment, who, as you may know, were part of the Waterloo collection and came with horses.
@sergioalmasy87227 ай бұрын
@@collectorguys My apologies! Indeed, the Scots Guards Regiment, and in your film depicts F Company (Ceremonial). Thank you for the correction.

does britians deetail have a company
@collectorguys3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and they are really nicely done. The current owner of Britains mainly makes painted metal "connoisseur" figures but they also still produce Deetail figures under the "Super Deetail" brand. They currently produce 3 parts of the line: "Knights" "American Civil War" and "WWII". They also used to make part of the "Western" line. It seems the Western figures and the others that are listed out of stock are due to production shortages. Here is where you can find them: www.wbritain.com/product-store/super-detail-plastics
