This performance was from the 1975 Dick Clark New Year's Rockin' Eve TV show - it was hosted by Chicago and was actually titled that year as "Chicago's New Year's Rockin' Eve 1975" and also included the Beach Boys, Doobie Brothers, and Olivia Newton-John as performers.

This is a pretty haunting and intriguing song! It gives me an ominous and empty 🫙 sensation and a sense of longing! I guess a good song is supposed to stir your soul and emotions! Bye you all!

This was one of my favorite Chicago performances. The Beach Boys sang with them on this occasion. With Terry Kath leading and those Beach Boys and chicago harmonies are unmatched.

I love the earlier Chicago but then I went on a road trip with some acquaintances in high school and they were into the later Chicago and this song had just come out, and it load me to sleep against the thrum of the engine in this 1974 Ford Econoline.

Love Chicago! The city and the band. The band's catalog is a gold mine. The studio version is perfect. The late Terry Kath's voice matches the song better.

Sooo cool..Kath usually played guitar and Cetera usually played bass, but they switched instruments on this and traded off on lead vocals as well.

This song was off Chicago's seventh LP (a double album). I remember it. They toured with The Beach Boys, in fact, and I'm sure this song was in the set. That tour was about a year later, I think, summer of 1975 or so.

In 1978 I was dating my then girlfriend now wife. She was living in Fresno, CA where we met in college, but I had to work during my school breaks back home in the San Francisco Bay Area. I would play this song again and again on my cassette tape deck as I was traveling back home after visiting her on the weekends feeling very sad. Brings me back to that time, thanks for doing the reaction.

It's on my zen Chicago song list. A lot of Chicago 17 songs fall in that category for me. Overall, I love Terry's voice and guitar work... but before he passed was the best of their music in my opinion.

It was a breakup song because she told him that he had to make a choice, either her or his job, and he chose his job. For someone who is part of a band, let’s say, you have to consider also that if he left the group then that group may not be anymore. So that becomes a part of this choice. Just my 2 cents on whether you were right or wrong Angela. Have yourself a great evening.

The Studio version is SO much better than this. I love this songs as it reminds me of a 10th grader with me first "Girlfriend". The funny thing is we were in my basement on a Friday night and getting our groove on and the track on the LP kept skipping! Needless to say we never made it to home base, but close until the enteral Skip!! Ugh!
