Thanks so much for letting me know that in the previous upload the song was in fact a cover band. I've heard this song so many times & it even fooled me. I will be more careful in the future. Here is the song sung by Paul McCartney.

Paul was staying at his girlfriend, Jane Asher's, home and woke up one morning with the melody in his head, completely formed. He rolled out of bed and started playing it on the piano so he wouldn't forget it. He worked on it for weeks, with the working title, "Scrambled Eggs". After he was done with it, he asked everyone he knew if they recognized it because it was so easy to write that he wondered if he had just plagiarized it without knowing. When he wrote "Let It Be" he had woken up from a dream about his mother, Mary, who had come to him in the dream and told him to not worry about his troubles, just to let it be. Yesterday, according to Guinness, is the most covered song in history.

After Paul McCartney performed this song live in 1965, Ringo Starr came on stage carrying a large bouquet of flowers, presumably from a fan. Ringo offered the Flowers to Paul who grabbed them. Ringo quickly walked backwards still holding onto the Flowers and leaving McCartney holding nothing but pre-cut stems. One of many Beatles pranks. Post-Beatles McCartney performed this song live on his 1976 world tour as found in his "Wings Over America" live album. Another good break up song is Dave Mason's "We Just Disagree". Also, "These Eyes" by The Guess Who. And "Who Knows How To Make Love Stay" by Doug and the Slugs. And "Baby Blue" by Badfinger.

This was actually written about his mom as he lost her at the age of 14. He longed for yesterday just to see her again and when she died it was from one day to the next. The reason for the lyric “why she had to go, I don’t know she wouldn’t say”…

Paul originally called the song "Scrambled Eggs) but the Music Director suggested Yesterday. For decades it was the third most popular song and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
@strathman750115 минут бұрын
He's not saying the song *is* "about his mom." Someone suggested to him that regrets around the death of his mother may have been one influence, and he's agreeing that this is possible, but songs just come to him out of his unconscious and don't necessarily have to be "about" any one particular real life event.

It's hard to say because this song first came to Paul as music with no lyrics. His working title was Scrambled Eggs because those are the words he filled in Yesterday with. Then after thinking about the music he later came up with the words for the song.

YES! and that is what she did not learn, but itis so easy to find that with the internet. Reading about the song in depth ahead of time before you do the video would have been much better. For example : George Martin was not even acknowledged for suggesting and writing the string quartet part, it was not formula Beatles song and the others agreed but knew it was a great song. Once again history gets rewritten by accidental method of exclusion.

We really did not get the full story on Yesterday here. A little more advance research would tell you the story of how McCartney woke up in the middle of the night with this song in his head, got up and played around with it, had no lyrics yet. He wrote down some working lyrics "Scrambled Eggs" = "Yesterday." He took it around to several people worried that he had heard the melody before somewhere and copied it off of a pop record. George Martin, the Beatles producer, said no he never heard, the boys in the band said no, several others never heard it before. So he wrote the official lyrics. It was determined that only Paul should sing, without the band, because it was not really a Beatles style song. But it was George Martin who suggested a string quartet, guitars and drums wouldn't work very well [as later evidenced by them playing it in concert in front of screaming girls and fans, it always sounded crappy, guitars out of tune, drums just kind of plodding along to support the band]. Martin wrote the string quartet for it, Paul on his 6 string guitar, and the string quartet. it wound up being the most covered / recorded song in history. the song can also be about loss of a loved one, and probably is. McCartney has been slow to admit it was at least partially about his mother Mary whom he lost to cancer in 1956 when he was 14. Which is why he wished he'd never mocked his mother once about sounding "posh." We all say dumb things to our parents in adolescence, but when you remember something you said years later and your mom is still around you both laugh about it usually...but not if your mom died young and you miss her.

I KNOW WHAT THE SONG IS ABOUT. IT WAS NOT ABOUT HIS MOM. NOT SURE WHY PAUL SAID THAT. IN FACT FROM WHAT U READ IT SEEMS LIKE THAT WAS SOMEONE OTHER THEN PAUL WHO NEVER MET HIM CAME UP WITH THEIR OWN INTERPRETATION OF WHERE IT CAME FROM. BECAUSE IT SAYS IT MAY HAVE BEEN ABOUT HIS MOM. BUT MAY HAVE BEEN, AND ACTUALLY WERE ARE NOT THE SAME THING.BESIDES PAUL WOULD KNOW AND NOT SAY IT MAY HAVE BEEN ABOUT HER. HE WROTE THE TUNE AT 15 YEARS OLD BUT NEVER HAD THE WORDS TO IT AND PUT IN ON THE SHELF UNTIL 1965. IT WAS ABOUT THE GROUP IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR CAREERS KNOWING THAT THINGS WERE CHANGING IN THEIR PERSONAL LIVES. WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE HE WROTE THE WORDS TO THE SONG HE AND JOHN WERE DRIVING BY THE OLD CLUBS THEY PLAYED IN AS TEENS AND REALIZED THAT THOSE DAYS WERE OVER AND LONGED FOR THEM AGAIN.. THAT WAS HE MOMENT THAT INSPIRED HIM TO WRITE THE WORD TO THE SONG. PS..THEY ALSO DID A FOLLOW UP SONG CALLED THE NIGHT BEFORE (IRONICALLY) WHICH WAS ON THE HELP ALBUM AND IN THE MOVIE THAT THEY WERE IN OF THE SAME NAME. PAUL CALLED THE SONG SCRABBLED EGGS IN 1957. BUT TODAY WE ALL KNOW IT AS YESTERDAY. ITS ALSO WAS THE NUMBER 1 MOST RECORDED SONG BY OTHER ARTISTS FOR YEARS KNOCKING WHITE CHRISTMAS OUT OF THE NUMBER 1 SPOT. IT REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG THAT CAN AND DOES RELATE TO ALL WHO HEAR IT IN OUR PERSONAL LIVES.

I've noticed that Angela seems to have stopped saying whether she would put a song in her phone or not. I think that's a smart move. Letting us know whether she liked or didn't like a song is a good enough reaction. Because there were times when she liked a song, and even moved to it, but then said it wouldn't go in her phone. Kind of confusing.

McCartney's mother Mary died of cancer when he was 14. the song a also about loss of a loved one. And for us Boomers loss of youth and what seemed like better times, but we had our problems for example like the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights struggles, Assassination of leaders by idiots or possibly the Mafia or CIA, police beating up on people of color AND college students in general protesting the war, and the murder by the Ohio National Guard of of 4 Kent State University Students, wounding of 7 others May 4, 1970 [1 was paralyzed for life], and on On May 15, 1970, two Black men were killed and 12 others were wounded in a shooting at Jackson State College in Jackson, Mississippi by the cops: so in reality Yesterday, our troubles were very close by, not far away.

NOT 1965, BEATLES only released in Mono then.
@thomastimlin172412 күн бұрын
For AM radio and teenage market sales, the singles were in mono released for airplay and home, no stereo AM or FM then [at least they had not fully developed stereo FM]. However, in the USA, stereo albums were available as well as mono. I think you had to pay more for stereo back then. but it was not sophisticated or "real" stereo for sure. For example: on the USA Meet the Beatles album : The stereo versions of I Want To Hold Your Hand and This Boy were duophonic (fake stereo) versions created from the UK mono mixes, as stereo versions of these tracks had not been made available to Capitol (although stereo versions of both songs had been made at Abbey Road in October 1963, neither had yet been released in the UK). The remaining stereo tracks are the same mixes as the stereo version of With The Beatles, the English version of Meet the Beatles, or vice versa really...it is confusing!!!
