Well, in Chamerlain(and others at the time) defense, these guys had just watched the world tear itself apart about 20 years before, resulting in MILLIONS of deaths during the last great war. Can any of us say that in the same position, we wouldn't be ready to do anything...ANYTHING that we thought might prevent another war? The only other real way they had to take stronger action was to threaten military force...which would mean war....more deaths.... can't say I can really blame them too hard for trying to avoid a repeat of the last war. Also one has to remember, we are looking back on all of this with a great deal of hindsight, of course we KNOW Hitler isn't going to keep his word, but it's mainly because of the fact that he broke these agreements.

To give you an idea of the atrocities inflicted upon the Chinese by the Japanese at Nanking; I can start by saying that the Japanese sack of Nanking is most often referred to as the "Rape of Nanking." Take the Holocaust, or the mass executions in Russia by Stalin, and that's the level of evil we're talking about that occured at Nanking. Everything from cold-blooded murder of civilians, to actual rape, to unethical human experimentation. Japan did it all. However, Japan at that time and ever since, denied it ever happened, and pretty much wiped it from their history books.

This is a weird comment. America, since gaining its independence in 1776, has never colonized another country. We did WIN colonies previously owned by Spain after the Spanish-American War but we didnt re-colonize them and left the Spanish colony-decended residents pretty much to their own devices and America only exists because of Great Britain's obsession with colonizing every country it can but we've never done that. Now if you want to throw shade at Americans for financing wars because of a petty beef with Russia (who was financing the other side), or involving ourselves in international incidents we have no business being in, then that's fair but implying America has a history of colonization is of course, wrong.

The way he explains the Maginot line, Dunkirk, UK's stance when German started winning in France, France's stance when German started winning, his lack of talking about the English plot to take over France that forced France to quickly sign an armistice with Germany to avoid it, or Mers El Kebir, all glorifies the UK (and especially Churchill) and mocks France, while the reality was quite otherwise. It also fails to mention why the RAF could actually fight of the Luftwaffe as well, which was, well, the fact that Luftwaffe was very weakened by the battle of France.

Always thought how Germany after loosing wwI became so strong in such short period of time, of course Union did the same in 19 years after winning in civil war and force occupants to go home, they manage to create such a develop country but it is Union with all resources you may need it is in Union. But how Germany could do it? Only one option: Britain feed it to fight against Union, the true creator of wwII is Britain. But after Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, oops Germany turned in another direction and if Hitler was not so stupid and finished war on the west and maybe did not attack Union at all. Germany maybe unite Europe.
@TrashskillsRS3 жыл бұрын
Germany was the leading country in the industrial revolution by 1900. The best engineering books was german and STEM science was booming. It was one of the leading factors to the tension leading to WWI. After WWI the german army had to remove about 400 planes and some guns and artillery and less than 20 proto tanks (mostly captured british ones). By 1930 the big companies were already producing a ton of cars, aircraft etc. for commercial use. By 1933 when Nazi's took over, they beefed up military production massively. By 1939 the german state spent more money on the millitary than they earned in taxes, and thus was running and extreme deficit on their national budget. In contast UK and US were only spending a few % of their budget on the military before war broke out. It is how Germany had superior tanks to the allies and more planes, with the Spitfire as the only plane capable of competiting. It is why they wanted these gambled swift victories while they had the upper hand in material. Now USSR had never stopped beefing up their army, as Stalin foreshadowed a conflict with the capitalist world. By 1940 they had the largest army in the world, with the most tanls and aircraft. Of these it was the newly invented T-34 tanks that would surprise the germans the most in 1941, as it was superior to the german ones, while they still had superior aircraft and after smashing 1000's of planes on the ground during early Barbarossa with over 1000 on the first day, they had air superiority. It was only because they moved their factories east in a nightmare logitstical operation, while also keeping production so simple that uneducated farmers could learn it in a couple days, and with multiple corners cut that they started mass production on an insane scale. Also in early 1942 the USSR got aid from the Western Allies in terms of grain and trucks, as the USSR economy basically collapsed as they went into total war production.

@@TrashskillsRS I think you forgot Versalles treaty: Alsace, Lotaringia to France, Shlesvig to Denmark, Poznan, Upper Silesia, Pomerania to Poland, Memel to Lithuania, was created demilitarized zone, all german navy was sunk, army restriction of 100 000 men, Germany was forbidden to build planes, tanks, armored cars, Germany should pay 132 billions golden german marks. Germany could not pay so Antanta took everything that had some value: machines, livestock, resources. In 1923 France and Belgium occupied Ruhr area. Out of that all german production drasticcaly fell. Inflalation grew every day, high taxes.
@TrashskillsRS3 жыл бұрын
@@Лев-ф6г The majority of german industrialiation factories were in Bayern and the Ruhr district. You can even see it today, with Audi, BMW, Adidas, Siemens in Bayern. Ruhr had the steel works, coal mines, and still has Texstile, Food and Chemistry factories, and is the area with highest population density in germany for a reason. It is correct that the German economy was hurt badly by Versalles. But they still had a lot of the industry, and in 1929 after the great depression hits, germany negotiate a deal to delay the reparation payments and it is fully ended in, 1932 with only debts from loans remaining. Fun facts in 1953 the remaining debt was halved and the final debt payment was in 2010. A ton of factories are now to create military equipment and they start the scheme of the MEFO bills that were worthless bonds to get investment into the military build up. Furthermore they take and insane amount of debt to also put in and sustain the larger military, however it is only in 1943 that germany goes all in with total war, something that the USA did almost immediatly, for example USA went from producing 3 million cars in 1941 to a total of 139 from 1942-1945
@Лев-ф6г3 жыл бұрын
@@TrashskillsRS The most value factor was that USA offered to Germany a loan 30 billions golden german marks it was far lighter in time than Versallies treaty, now USA can influence on german politics, also not directionally USA could influence on Britain and France cause Germany paid reparations from this loan. But the main question why Britain and France did nothing tham Germany started to break Versallies agreement?
@TrashskillsRS3 жыл бұрын
@@Лев-ф6г The US was indeed lending Germany money during the Weimar Republic, but it was certainly not for Germany's sake or for military production. It was one of the things were USA pretty much overstepped the limits of banking, as they had lend a huge amount to UK and France during WW1 which was to paid back, this burden was then laid off to Germany by the reparations, who in turn lended money from the US... to pay back loans to the US. It made the german economy go absolutely crazy, and was partially saved by the events of the Great Depression otherwise the state would have defaulted upon itself as it would lose the ability to lend money from the US. The german state came out relatively on top, despite events such as that, which was basically a pyramid scheme of bank loans. It is very US centric to just see the US as the all creator of eveything, even at that time. France was in ruins after WW1 and started to get internal political chaos which almost culminated in communist revolution, so they did not care much about Versalles and it was mainly UK seeing itself as an empire that lead the way. Almost immediatly and especially after French occupation of the Ruhr they knew that the treaty was not going to last forever. When Nazi germany started breaking it, the UK rushed to try and make concessions so that everyone could live with it. It is why Chamberlain tries to make concession after concession to make the good correct "treaty" as it should have been from the start. Now of course that ends badly after Hitler directly breaks the deal with upholding Czhechoslovakia neutrality after the Munich Conference and the rest is WW2. The US had absolutely no dealings with European politics during the entire 1930's, and the UK had no special feelings towards where the exact borders of central europe should be, as they had played this European political chess game since the Napoleonic wars to avoid major conflicts. That dream of UK empire is utterly smashed during The Big 3 conferences late in WW2 when USA and USSR make deals and suggestions that the UK does not like but have to give in. Churchill would call it 2 and a half later in his life, as the UK lost its global status
