How strange. The girl, her father and coach has just learned she has a rare heart condition that can be deadly, a treatment is presented and because she would have to stay off swimming for a few weeks, she and her coach don't want the treatment? What's more important? Staying alive in the future or dying in the swimming pool?

These thing happen a lot in real life. an athlete or competitor spend years of their life on training to reach a certain goal then someone tells you that you have to stop or postpone it, they not going to take it. and also didn't help that in this episode a patient is a teenager and you know teenager doesn't think straight most of the time.
@Jorindeify
@Jorindeify 7 ай бұрын
@@PiyachonYuenyongHYDE I understand the teenager's grief about her prospects in the sport being maybe ruined because of the operation, but her dad should have tried to convince her or told the doctors to do it anyway. I know she filed for emancipation, so I hope the judge will make her undergo the surgery. What is more important than staying alive?

@@Jorindeify You'll find lots of people who have a thought of "I rather be dead than can not pursue my goal" also seems like her dad wasn't really close from the way he just told her to just do it instead of try to talk to her.

8:24 I love how he understood that Dr. Hallstead’s outburst wasn’t just because he’s a mean guy or he was trying to be rude to the man in charge. He was worried about his patient and I love that this guy could see that and decided to step in because he has without his help this girl most likely would’ve put herself in risk but honestly, I like that this is a big guy in charge and he does care he doesn’t like yes he cares that Dr. Hallstead spoke with him with disrespect. However, he also cares about the reason for the disrespect. He knows that will was just concerned about his patience and I love that about this guy I’ve seen way too many people in charge who are just jerks and I really like to see this guy come around and show his soft side.

You realise he also broke the law when he blabbed the patient’s medical info to someone who had no right to the info, right? Even when you own a hospital you aren’t supposed to have access to the patients’ medical files! You can’t loom and doctors aren’t supposed to blab.

Wait if the whole court situation needed to go through a Judge doesn't that mean Doctor Halstead would also have to be there to not only give his side of the story but to explain the health risks to the judge on why the girl needs to have the surgery done? In all cases the Judge would logically agree with the doctor

@@iwtbrnk But wouldn't the dad get to speak in a emancipation hearing? isn't is a HIPPA violation for Halstead to tell the guy about a patient's health? the guy who bought the hospital isn't a doctor and is not involved with the patient's treatment so isn't it a violation to be announcing her medical problems to him?

"She's been living independently at her boarding school-" Ma'am, that is not what independently means. IANAL but my understanding of emancipation is that it's granted (rarely) to minors who have demonstrated that they are able to support themselves and who receive no parental support. While it could be argued that she does not rely on parental support due to her swimming scholarship, a boarding school is a temporary situation, and even without a potentially fatal heart condition, relying on swimming as a means to support herself into adulthood seems like a really weak argument for "independence."

And that's why you wouldn't be a good doctor. You need to respect their decisions even if they are bad ones, because if they do not accept medical treatment it cannot be forced. Yeah, it sucks, but making them hate you and the hospital turns them further away from the treatment.

People seem to think "no I'll ignore the life saving surgery cause I'll be kicked out of the team otherwise"... and they don't stop to think "huh, maybe I can't compete when I'm DEAD!" Would you rather miss out and have to work hard to try and make it later, and deal with the set back, or kill yourself holding onto something you already lost? Either be an inspiration to young competitors or be known as the idiot who refused life saving treatment... but no sure go with the later
