A lot of Darwin awards don’t go to the stupid, but to the complacent. People who know the rules of gun safety and have years of experience around firearms but still make these mistakes because they’re “built different.”

I agree. I have a friend who was career army got out and was in law enforcement for twelve years and then went into armed security for nine years using firearms all the time as part of the job. Then one day he got careless taking apart his 1911 Colt to clean it and shot his little finger off.

The "confidence drill" is a 100% accurate litmus test for whether or not your instructor is someone you want to learn from or avoid. The 4 rules of gun safety are absolute for a reason, you dont get to bend or break them without something going wrong. Any instructor who uses a confidence drill is a quack at best or a voyeuristic sadist at worst.

Depending on source, in T2 Arnold was either T-800 or T-101 ("Cyberdyne Systems Model 101"). They made up an excuse for the latter in media associated with T3 ("mold 101" is the endo skin that looks like Arnie), but we don't talk about that one.

@@DJWeapon8 Just crappy reboots that unfortunately carry the Terminator name. Though Salvation was a pretty good and highly flawed movie.
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 Жыл бұрын
@@oldeskul Salvation's concept was good. A new, reboot-esque trilogy set in the "future" where the resistance are actively fighting Skynet. My problem with it, from what I remember, is that it didn't focus on John Connor. It introduced a human cyborg for some reason. And that Kyle Reese being sent back in time happened way too early (he's sent in the ending of this movie instead of the ending of the potential third movie which would be much more cinematically and thematically appropriate.)
@StCerberusEngel
@StCerberusEngel Жыл бұрын
@@DJWeapon8 Granted, it's in a deleted scene only found in the special editions, but during the CPU reset, the readout on the T-800's HUD clearly states Series 800 Model 101 Version 2.4. Still, the first Special Edition release predates T3 by about a decade, so it's not just a later retcon, it's in T2 itself.

"Even the Merchant Marines..." nah brother, unless there's something I don't know, that was hilarious. Thank you for pointing out the difference between T-800 and T-1000, and while Arnold did NOT play T-1000 as Brandon suggests, the T-1000 DID shrug off bullets faster.

Well in the army we had a manual target range where we had people behind a burm raise and mark targets, it was cool having live rounds pass a few feet above your head, but there was no direct line of sight. Cool experience though

To your question of the confidence course... yeah the crawl under the MG fire is as close as the military would EVER allow that because we know soldiers too well. Every shot just a little closer to see if we can make our friend flinch... oh, I hit him.

Supposedly special forces units in some countries do have troops stand perfectly still in a dark room and have a couple of guys burst in and hose down the walls either side of them, though I know a lot of those super badcore hardass training stories are just to sell books on the author's time as a space shuttle door gunner in Vietnam War 2 (where they got four killstreaks and the Medal of Honor with Oak Leaf Clusters and Extra Cheese).

Even then, the gun in the live fire exercise is elevated 5 yards in the air and cannot aim down. It used to be only a yard and change, but this naturally led to accidents where recruits were injured or killed. It was kept low for a while in spite of them because it was the only way to simulate the scenario. Eventually, someone ran an experiment and determined that to the recruit crawling under the barbed wire, 5 yards was indistinguishable from a yard and change. Since there was no functional difference between them, the elevation was raised to 5 yards in improve safety.
@reecedignan8365
@reecedignan8365 Жыл бұрын
@@CruelestChris I do know of certain units who do so full live fire exercises with people, but they are beyond most. 22 SAS are well known for their live fire course “The Killing House” and have had actual real life members of government sit inside and take part - one being Thatcher who actually stayed quite still and calm while her bodyguard was found at her feet. But this is also 22 SAS, they run the Killing House daily and consistently. Small minor mistakes send you to the range for days on end for just minor accuracy and speed corrections. If you can get your weapon on target and deliver 2 quick *pips* your spending your next week on the range making sure you can to the best ability.

I sae on a comment on Brandon's video, apparently he did test out the books, but they were stacked against each other so the other books absorbed the kinetic energy so he thought only one book would have been enough to catch a bullet.

I believe the U.S. military does something sort of like this with machine gun fire. But they’re in a trench and the machine gun is on an elevated platform so it goes something like 25 yards over their heads or something like that so the risk is an absolute minimum.

Fun Fact: Richard Patrick, Robert Patrick (T-1000)'s brother, is the frontman of the band Filter ("Hey Man, Nice Shot") and he was the touring guitarist for Nine Inch Nails and also appeared in the music videos for their songs "Down in It", "Head Like a Hole", "Wish", and "Gave Up" In September 2022, Patrick joined Nine Inch Nails onstage for a special Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame induction performance, playing classic tracks from his time with the band as well as covering his Filter hit, "Hey Man Nice Shot". "I f---in' can't believe that Trent wanted to cover 'Hey Man Nice Shot' as Nine Inch Nails," Patrick said during a 2023 interview. "It was amazing. Just absolutely amazing. Then he wanted me to sing the second verse to 'Head LIke a Hole.' I could barely get it out, just because I was so emotional." Sorry for the Richard Patrick tangent LMAO but I think of him whenever I hear about his brother.

The 'knife test' one, I think I know why he didn't react in pain instantly. If that blade was really, really razor sharp, he might have BARELY felt it as it cut him. Even if he just poked himself, let alone stuck a spring-load blade at his stomach and let it spring. He might not have even been feeling the pain when he DISCOVERED the blood and walked off camera. Instant shock and surprise and a VERY sharp blade. I remember accidentally gashing my thumb with a fresh box cutter 40 seconds after putting it in the knife. Big long 3 inch gap because the knife skipped and hit my hand instead. I didn't even feel it bleeding. There was no pain at all when I went to get bandages. Surreal experience.

the knife clip is sooo funny to me because even a 1 dollar knife thats absolute garbage is SHARP ... just not for very long... what separates good from bad knifes isnt if you can make them sharp its how long they STAY sharp, you could make pure gold into a sharp knife but because its so soft it wont stay sharp
