The game itself is easy, playing on harder difficulties simply makes the enemies take more hits before they die while it takes you less hits to die. The whole point of the game is to style on enemies, the more stylish your combos are, the higher your style rating is. The best part is the game's music is coded to only play the best parts and the chorus when your style rating is high, and when your style rating is low, its usually only like instrumental intros with no vocals. Really gets you MOTIVATED to be better so you can listen to sick beats

The Devil May Cry series as a whole is an action adventure type thing, and in theory, you can get through it (on lower difficulties) by just button mashing. However, the fighting system is surprisingly complex, and getting the best rankings means getting down the exact timing on attacks, dodges, and the various abilities you learn/unlock through the game. The best DMC players turn the screen into a veritable ballet of demonic death, and it's worth looking up videos if you're interested in seeing what's possible.

Demons and people with demon blood like Dante and V are able to enter a state called devil trigger. Which basically activates their demon powers while also regenerating health for Dante he takes on his demon form and gets a power boost. For V he summons a large powerful demon that will throw out attacks based on where enemy’s are at random, or he can hop on its back taking control and directing its attacks. Demon blood also kills the pigmentation in their hair so when Dante unlocked his powers his hair turned permanently white. While V has so little demon in him that it only turns white while it’s active.

not quite correct when it comes to V. his demons are bound to him by ink, Shadow and Griffin are his tattoos when they're inactive, and Nightmare causes his hair to become black

The story of Devil May Cry is about Dante, one of Twin Sons born from The legendary dark knight Sparda and a human woman named Eva. Sparda saved the human world by sealing away the demon world and preventing Mundus The Demon King from turning the world into an apocalyptic hellscape. One day when Sparda mysteriously disappeared, Mundus and his minions attacked Sparda's family and killed Eva after she hid Dante and Dante assumed Vergil was killed too, but instead Vergil(Dante's twin) became obsessed with power and didn't care who he had to go through to get it, while Dante became a Devil Hunter to prevent the tragedy of his family repeating and avenging them when the opportunity arises and try to get paid for his services

To answer the question about V's hair color, it's white. His black hair is actually "bowser" when it's not fighting. Same with his tattoos, they're actually just his minions. That's why when you summon all 3 minions, V's hair turns white and loses the tattoos.

Best part to the gameplay is there are parrying mechanics that make it possibel to go through the entire campaign without getting hit once. And the game rewards you for doing such. And the parrying mechanics are really weird, as i was able to parry a fireball back point blank using the electric hand nero has. Playing as Vergil is almost hax

This is undoubtedly one of the best pure actions games in existance and its arguably not even the best one in it's own series. Like Maxor stated, generally youre in it specifically to style on every single enemy and boss with a high degree of mastery. Theres even a built in provoke/taunting mechanic. Basically your rank at the end of each mission is determined by how lengthy and varied your ability to chain attacks is without taking damage. Precision, timing and enemy awareness is key...However the game provides many items and modes to ease in newbies. Theres no need to be intimidated by the hardcore mastery aspect. That's the endgoal. You can go in and flail away to the end credits without stressing-too much. But the general hype from the series stems from people's mastery over its characters and their distinct methods of combat. Theres quite a few youtube channels dedicated specifically to showing off stylish combo highlights.

its not button mashing. he mentioned the alphabet, you have to maneuver around quickly and keep the combat going for as long as you can to get the best final score for each level. as for the white hair or demon forms. they are devil triggers which are the idolization of demon blood onto themselves. so V just becomes part of who he really is= the my little pony storyteller. dante is the son of a powerful demon who kicked everyones ass back in hell before hooking up with this random human woman and out came Dante and Virgil.

The name Devil May Cry is a reference to the phrase Devil May Care which is the name of the type of character they are. To be Devil May Care is to be unfazed by everything and taunt whatever is in front of you. Not really live on the edge but laugh at it taunt it a little. Also DMCV is the easiest in the series but it's hardly a button masher. You need some thought put into it however they have Auto-Mode which turns it into a button masher. It's existed in each game but the 4 and 5 versions of Auto-Mode are made especially well on top of easy mode being selectable from the beginning of DMCV. In every other game you had to unlock it by dieing a certain amount before a boss.
