There's actually a very good reason for ramming the enemy ship! Warships in the warhammer universe are extremely heavily armed with tons of point defense weapons from missiles, lasers and solid ammunition cannons, as we saw as they were approaching the ship. The best way to defeat these systems is speed. So they designed a torpedo specifically to deliver Astartes into enemy ships for boarding actions. Keep in mind, this torpedo is going to be going hundreds of miles an hour and the impact into another ship would turn normal humans into jelly. On another note, when the two officers killed the inquisitor (the guy who looked like he was praying) they were absolutely doing the right thing. The inquisitor was a psyker, basically warhammers equivalent of a wizard or a spell caster. To simplify it to the extreme, in order to cast spells in warhammer you basically need to tap into the power of hell to project that power into our reality. Tapping into that power can be extremely risky, however, as there's always a chance that a demon might notice what you're doing and hijack your hell connection to take a trip to our plane if existence. This is bad. VERY BAD. Standard operating procedure in the event of this is to kill the psyker as quickly as possible before the demon has a chance to manifest. Its the only way to save the psyker from the pain and horror of becoming a demon host, watching as their body is turned into something else horrifying as their consciousness takes a backseat to the demon's, and it saves everyone else on board the ship from being ripped apart limb by limb.
@Mugthraka3 жыл бұрын
i'm not sure if the Psyker was actually an Inquisitor, and not just an Assermented psyker, ordained by an Inquisitor to assist the Marines in their task. Thats the kind of thing an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor would do, to assist and send personel from his own suit, or in his service, Inquisitors don't have to do the menial or dangerous tasks themselfs, thats why they recruit specialised personel for that.

The reason the blood looks super-weird is actually because the creator paid attention to detail with the lore of the universe - Space Marines are *extensively* modified and one of the biological modifications causes their blood to clot extremely quickly. The idea being that fast clotting = bleeding stops quickly, resulting in less likelihood of death by blood loss, and healing is able to begin almost immediately. But it also means that when they're wounded or cough up blood, the blood has already started to clot by the time it hits the ground.
@dadab222 жыл бұрын
That, and if that teleportation involved the warp, it's been mentioned that the chaotic energy can mutate the microrganisms inside a person. So those could have also been mutated single celled organisms. Which an astartes would imediatly expell or destroy.

That last wide shot is way more epic than most people realize. The main character pops in and you see the corpses sitting in chairs. If you look closely those pillars around the valley are the same as the one he's standing on and the rest of his team are teleported to their own column. You can see the flashes on each and one of them falling to the valley floor. He's standing on a column that is a good 400' above the valley floor. That makes the closest corpse about a quarter mile away.

Gentlemen, if you want to understand what is going on here, you need to acquire some background knowledge. The Adeptus Astartes, also known as "Space Marines" is the elite of the human empire in the Warhammer 40k universe. Genetically optimized and equipped with the best of what technology has to offer in every way, these super warriors are usually the spearhead in crisis situations that require quick reactions. In contrast to the Imperial Guard, the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes are organized in independent groups that are usually only referred to as "Chapters". The world of the Warhammer 40k is really very extensive. But if you are interested I recommend a video from "The Templin Institute" which gives a pretty good overview of the empire. May the emperor be with you and may the Imperium endure another ten thousand years.

Yeah. In addition, some of these chapters can have their origins from an original legion of Space marines. 20 of these Legions used to exist under what was known as a primarch. Think of them like space marines but times by 100. They’re stronger, more adept, and have the ability to process information at speeds that would make normal humans and even Other Super human beings of other universes. Now each of these 20 primarchs were essentially a Part of the emperor of mankind. A great physic being who essentially was guiding mankind into a future of prosperity and peace. At least until the Collapse happened and the dark age of humanity. Then the emperor stepped out from the shadows to unite all of mankind under his banner, since he saw that of humanity was to survive, he had no other alternative. So now back to the primarchs. As said before each was made to be a specific part of the Emperor himself. Such as Roubute Guilliman being his Administrative prowess and tactical thinking. Lion el Johnson being his Prowess as a warrior and bravery in combat, but also his secrecy (id explain it but I’d rather not make you read an essay lol) and Someone like Rogal dorn being his Defender and builder. Originally 20 of these primarchs (2 of which had been killed off and are not named as of yet) Were scattered across the stars by the gods of chaos in order to prevent the emperor from having all of his sons. Eventually however he found each of his sons on various planets and each would be made to be in command of their space marine legion. Now eventually after a crusade against the Orks on Ulanor, The emperor left the best of his sons, Horus Luprical, in charge the crusade as he had to go back to his webway project, which would let humanity finally end their Reliance on the warp for travel. However eventually Horus was corrupted by chaos, and thus plotted a massive rebellion against his father, and through some scheming, The sending of the sons he knew would be loyal to the Emperor, and finally Gathering the support of his fellow brothers who wanted to revolt against him. Such as Lorgar, Angron, Mortarion, and Eventually, Magnus and Pertruabo along with Fulgrim. And thus a massive scale civil war began and to skip over a lot of detail just for the sake of your convenience. (Like seriously theres a lot of lore on this) eventually Horus reaches Terra, essentially earth. And after a prolonged siege he knows the Lion and Guilliman are both on their way. The Lion commanding the greatest warriors, and Guilliman commanding the largest due to their low casualities in combat and Strategy. So Horus in a gamble, Lowered his void shields on his capital ship, “The Vengeful spirit.” and challenged the emperor to a duel in his ship. So the Big E brought his two sons Sanguinius, the angel. And Rogal dorn, the pretorian of Terra with him, along with some custodies and Personal guards to the primarchs, to end the rebellion. However, each of them was scattered throughout the vengeful spirit. And thus it was Sanguinius who met Horus first. And after a duel, Sanguinius was killed by Horus, after he snapped his neck. Then the emperor entered the room and after an attempt to bring his son back to the light, they dueled. Now the Emperor was almost defeated in this fight, but due to the Heroism of a Certain Simple guardsman to stand up to a Primarch corrupted by chaos, The emperor unleashed his full power in a final gamble to destroy his son, and in doing so Destroyed Horus utterly. After this The Big E was placed on the golden throne and has since then acted as a beacon for what’s known as the astronomicon. Essentially think of it as a Beacon to guide ships through warp travel. And since then nearly all his sons have disappeared or Have died. Except Roubute Guilliman who in the late 41st millennium, has returned to serve the imperium of man after being revived from a Cut to the neck by Fulgrim. And since then has led an Indomitus crusade to gain back the imperial worlds lost, and to reinforce the various chapters. So yeah. That’s at least a Kindof Basic(ish) Overview of the Origins of the space marines and their chapters.

Small summary to help out. It's a universe where psychics are connected to the spirit realm (AKA: The Warp) and it is NOT a good place. Like, get your soul eaten and possessed by a demon (in setting spelling is “daemon”) is a common occurrence kind of bad. The two balls were containers for psychic aliens, meant to protect them from bad Warp stuff. One had been captured, it was used to track the other, which somehow convinced or mind-controlled a bunch of humans to try and make a different container for it to hide in. (that big statue) When the chips were down, the captured one tried to possess the one psychic (“Psyker” in setting) that was eavesdropping and shit did not go as planned because the two astartes did what you’re supposed to do the SECOND a psyker looks like they’ve been possessed by something. And the other one tried to transport the 5 astartes on the ship to another location, but it was immediately attacked/devoured by that "shadow" when he pulled the 5 astartes into his shell and into The Warp. Since going through The Warp is how this universe does Faster-Than-Light travel (which is a meme of "we punch a hole into the afterlife and sail through literally HELL to go to other galaxies!"), AND that alien lost control due to being attacked/eaten, those astartes could be a VERY long way away from where they started.

The Astartes series is a pure work of art. Not only does the creator have a deep understanding of the universe, but also a deep understanding of just how disgustingly powerful Space Marines truly are. They're actually just walking tanks with weapons that basically fire grenades moving at the speed of bullets. And that's not even mentioning this guys insane talent in digital 3D art, sound design, and more. Iirc he got hired by Gearbox who I think own the rights to Warhammer 40k overall(?), idc about the company, but I'm happy the creator got the recognition deserved. Also there is no good guy in Warhammer 40k. The Imperium of man are basically Space Nazi's. And if you want a good guy, that may be the closest thing to a "good" guy. Everything in this universe is terrible, depressing, cruel, fucked up, and awful. But that, that is why it's such an interesting universe. It is basically "Which awful faction do you like the most?".

Astartes has officially become official, and the creator is now part of Games Workshop, or subsidiary, to make more. It sucks because it has been removed from KZbin and moved to Games Workshops labyrinthine pages. But we are likely to see much more in the future so that may help to even things out in the longer term.

Notes pronounced A-Start-Eez, they are sort of the grandchildren of the God Emperor of Mankind. He is effectively a living god, around since like 8,000 BC, and guided humanity is subtle ways until he mostly revealed himself to humanity roughly in the year 30,000 AD he created 20 sort of demigods, with science, his own genetic material, and the help of The Warp, which is an entire story unto itself. the beings in the warp discovered that the Emperor planned on cutting The Warp off from reality with the help of these 20 demigods so scattered them across the galaxy in their incubation pods. Using the genetic template of these demigods he created a group of organs that could be installed into a young male (preferably before puberty started, but accepted some in puberty) these boys would then grow to be Astartes, or Space Marines. These troops would form the bulk of the Emperor's armies to take over the galaxy, cut reality off from The Warp and lead humanity into a golden age of science and reason. 2 of his 20 children, called Primarchs, were scrubbed from history, and his greatest son was tricked by The Warp into turning half his brothers against the Emperor and almost killing him. Now, 10,000 years later The God Emperor of Mankind sits on The Golden Throne, a machine that amplifies and helps control his minds power while trying to keep his body healthy (it has long been slowly breaking down) Of Mankind the strongest being is The God Emperor of Mankind, next being his Primarch "children" (some are dead and some are Daemon Princes in The Warp), then come the Custodes, the emperors personal bodyguard, then the short lived Thunder Warriors who were used to take back Earth (terra) from techno barbarians. They were regular humans modified and enhanced and clad in great armour. They were essentially half crazed super soldiers who's only purpose was slaughter. The Emperor had them largely killed in the final battle for Earth as they were unsuited for anything besides destruction. Next in power are the "New" Primaris Marines, created under order by one of The Emperors Primarchs shortly after the rebellion, to be able to resist the whispers and corruption of The Warp. These were created and then held in stasis until the one that created them was told to let them enter service by the same Primarch that ordered their creation. This was after close to 10,000 years, and some hefty science, luck and another races help. The Primaris are faster, stronger, more resilient in mind and body than the standard Asartes. And while the Astartes maybe at the bottom of this list, they stand 7-8 feet tall, have 2 hearts, 3 lungs, 3 kidneys, larger stronger bones, larger stronger muscles, able to spit acid, detect chemicals in the air and food, and heal at an insane rate just to name a few. They have a Black Carapace under the skin of their torso to interface with their armour so they can wear it like a second skin.

The boarding was done using a boarding torpedo. The space marines load into it, then i flies to the enemy ship. When it's close enough it blasts its way into the enemy ship with the laser cannons and as it burrows into the ship it sprays special expanding foam behind it to seal the hole so the ship doesn't break up. Then the marines get out and as start killing. They're so much more powerful and gifted in war than baseline humans that it's not a contest. Hence the easy way the marines dispatched those traitorous humans. The rounds that the space marines bolt rifles fire are mass reactive, so when they explode inside their target which is why so many of the humans got blown apart. At the end an Inquisitorial psyker was trying to access the trapped orb, but then it took over and started talking to the other orb. The psyker lost control of his powers and got over run by the orb, that's why the other two space marines killed him because you can't risk having a powerful psyker lose control of his powers. It's called exorcism protocols.

Loved the reading that the existence of Space Marines (Astartes) is a life of cyclical warfare. In a sense you're actually not far off, its a perceptive reading. The 41 millennium is a stagnated, totalitarian future realm of endless warfare. Where for every occurred victory there's often a profound cataclysmic loss tied to it in one way or other, continuing the cycle.

I guess I don't think about it very often since I've always really been into 40k, but trying to look at it from an outsiders perspective, I can totally see how it would be really hard to tell just what the fuck you're looking at lol. It's interesting though to hear what this all looks like to someone who has no history with 40k. For example, they say they didn't see the execution of the possessed inquisitor coming, but fans knew from the second they saw the two marines flanking him on either side that they were there just in case exactly that happened. And there are a lot of tropes that are subverted in 40k too. From a filmmaking perspective, you'd think the big scary looking armored dudes are the invading bad guys beating up on the less well-equipped little man. That's how these sci-fi situations always play out, and that's the pattern that these guys were seeing. But you catch up on a bit of lore, and suddenly you go from being suspicious and fearful of these hulking killing machines and start chanting "I CAN'T CUM UNLESS THESE HERETICS GET FUCKING PURGED." And they see the psykers and all the warp shenanigans as spooky, mysterious stuff, but most 40k lovers probably just think "the horrid rape of reality by eldritch forces of extra-dimensional madness? Is it Tuesday already?"

By the way "Astartes" probably comes from the name of the antic godess Astarte who is a kind of bellicist Godess. She has been adored from the bronze age to antic Grece though her name changed sometimes (She is known as Tanit in Carthage, I guess that name is known by the fans as well). As Monotheist turned former gods into angels or demons Astarte became Astaroth, another name for the devil. Wich fairly suits the transformation from Godlike creature of the emperor to Chaos space Marines I reckon. ^^

It's literally named after an ancient goddess of war, hunting and royalty. The idea that it translates to "Warrior of the stars" is just GW being GW. Warrior of the stars, marine of space. It's almost as bad as Land Raiders and Land Speeders being named after Arkhan Land, instead of just being a logical term. They were supposedly called Land's Raider and Land's Speeder initially.
@Jaydinskee3 жыл бұрын
@@joost1120 well to your credit, Yes I know it's also originally the name of a real historical deity But to my understanding, Astartes is still capable of literally translating into its prefix and suffix, 'Astar' (Which from Latin/Greek literally means Star) and 'tes' (Which I'm fairly sure was also a Latin/Greek suffix addendumed to the names of caders of soldiers or sellswords of the time) So at the very least you can Directly translate its Latin/Greek root meanings to be "Star Warriors" or "Warriors of the Stars" Also, I'm getting out of my depth but I think the suffix 'Tes' could be used in certain cases to denote a position of authority or command, Hence its use in the name of the ancient Goddess. This could lend itself to the idea of a higher Warriors/soldiers position, like that of a general/conqueror like Alexander the Great, And considering the Astartes are in all Name, Rank and pure physical stature, far above and removed from the rest of Mankind, that it might not be too much of a stretch to see it could be loosely interpreted to connotate Power over others, or their environment, hence Conquerors Again though, that last bit is my speculation based on what is known
@joost11203 жыл бұрын
@@Jaydinskee The Latin word for star is Stella, not astar. Astar doesn't mean anything in Latin. It is an English word, a synonym for Spangled or Sparkling, but that's it. The word Aster does exist in Greek, but it simply refers to any celestial body. The -tes suffix is not related to a warrior in any way. It is simply the plural nominative, indicating that it is the subject in that sentence. Remember that they are not called the Astartes. They are called the Adeptus Astartes. Adeptus is a Latin singular nominative meaning Obtained. You could argue that it is a grammarless mix of Latin and Greek, with a spelling error, and that it means 'Obtained Stars'. It makes more sense that they are just the Adepts of the goddess Astarte.

If you hear closely the "priest" tells them to get the fuck out, then the big cape dude tells a marine to go to the command center and warn them "GET THEM OUT OF THERE" Then you can hear it a bit in the space marine's helmet. "GET OUT OF HERE, NOW" Also, considering you're probably hearing the coms in the helmets, you can now understand how fucking loud the mantra the "priest" sang to try to protect himself. Basically the ball converted the priest and if he was allowed to he could kill 200 Astartes and eventually the entire planet/ship
