Chichi--Hope is a Bird with One Leg

Chichi suffered a broken left leg on November 11, 2017. It subsequently developed a drug-resistant staph (MRSA) infection and on November 30, the lower leg was amputated at the University of Florida Veterinary Hospital. He quickly learned how to use his beak and foot to get around and by February 2, 2018--when this video was recorded-- he was becoming quite accomplished with his new mobility. His wings had been clipped after he broke his leg, but once his flight feathers grow back in and he can fly, he'll be feeling more like his old self.

Our green cheek was hit by fan, I consulted many Dr. Finally surgery was done for leg last Tuesday..On Wednesday early Morning he passed away...Really pathetic we were so cautious everytime..still now no answer what was the reason he passed away....I really miss him,so naughty.....Take care of yours..All The Best God Bless.

Hi Frances. How is your bird doing? Your baby bird should adapt just fine to being one-legged. The only advice I can offer is to make sure that the bird has an accessible cage environment and that she can get around in it easily. If possible, don’t clip her wings. That will give her greater mobility.

How is he doing? Did he survive his amputation? My dove just had hers removed today. The surgery was hard on her, she didn't do well with the anesthesia. She's staying over night, I should pick her up tomorrow. Can you give me any advice on recovery? I love her so much!!

@@DNAInitiator Leopold is always with us and he is a happy parrot very strong and who do things very easy with this only leg. A Advice Who Was very important for him, go to the clinic visit him and speak with him Every day 5 minutes ( not very long because she need to sleep) and believe veryyyyy much on him. Hi Sophie! My apologies for not seeing your comment sooner. From your more recent post, it sounds like Leopold has recovered from his amputation and doing well. I’m delighted to hear that! One-legged birds can live remarkably well, even in the wild. I saw a post on Facebook from someone here in Florida who had a one-legged Painted Bunting visiting his bird feeder last winter. He was delighted to report that the bird returned again this month!
