The reason male idols are so happy to see fanboys is because it's viewed as a sort of validation. It's guaranteed that the vast majority of a male idol group's fanbase will be screaming fangirls, and the social conservatism of South Korea translates that into 'girls like male idols for their looks, not their music.' Seeing male fans thus means that their fans also like them for their music, not just their looks (because obviously a man wouldn't like another man for his looks; gay people obviously don't exist). It's not the most fair culture and most idols certainly don't hold it strongly, but it underpins pretty much all idol/fan interactions regardless of how liberal a group is. These idols are so affected by male fans because it's the most direct compliment to their music that they can get (and to be honest, it's cute no matter what the reason is).
