It's fun to see the keyboard and guitar swap roles for the first main section. Frank throws out some lovely rich chords. He gets his reward for layin' back when he gets his solo spot, where he casually puts burn marks in his guitar's fretboard.

@BebopHardRock
@BebopHardRock 4 жыл бұрын
@@StreetFighter2010 No Way. Greg's changes playing is still too digressive, too scale based. Corea's music depends on rhythmic interplay so you need a virtuoso who can be melodic and craft the music in real time, interacting, while playing the changes perfectly. Only a few can do that. Greg's awesome... But he's just another kind of player. I would even say that his blues hand is smoother than Frank's, being Eddie-influenced... But he still lacks Jazz (in the broad sense) in his playing. And that includes phrasing and silence. He smokes every rocker though!

Chick Corea's performance in 1987, playing "Time Track," is simply spectacular. His impeccable technique and the way he blends elements of jazz fusion with daring improvisations showcase why he is considered one of the greatest pianists of all time. The interaction with the band is magical, creating an electrifying atmosphere and a fluid dynamic that captivates the audience from start to finish. It is a masterpiece of virtuosity and musicality, reflecting the essence of jazz innovation in the 1980s. A true gift for music lovers!

Really? All I remember from the 80's are Pat Metheney and group, Jaco Pastorius solo, Miles Davis comeback, Yellowjackets, Steps Ahead, Brecker Bros and Branford and Wynton Marsalis. Great Bands and musicians, they are my favs. But compare them to what I consider the golden age of Fusion (Jazzrock as it was labeled then) : the 70's, with giants like Weather Report, Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Herbie Hancocks Headhunters. These guys were pioneers. Fusion was innovative, exciting and fresh in those days. Jazz fusion as a genre faded in the 2nd half of the 80's and throughout the 90's imo. I consider it dead in 2020 !

What is often forgotten in this world of fusion excess is the various band members' dance moves. Ignore the fact that they are dressed like extras from Miami Vice, or that they are miraculously gifted musicians - bow down to the moves. The sense I get is that is that they are not necessarily in the grip of the groove, more that someone has turned on a giant gas burner beneath that stage which is gradually heating up and forcing the band to move in unusual ways.

I thought they were working on a new form of exercise where you fuse playing complex music with aerobics, it's like the ultimate multitasking. Who's got the time to head to the gym when you have to practice for 21 hours a day, so to keep fit and healthy they are combining their gigs with aerobics, think of how much money you save on gym membership, plus you've got extra time for practicing, this is my kind of efficiency. You've got to play a gig every night, you may as exercise whilst you're at it. Genius Eric Marienthal is a sensational Sax player, absolutely incredible, as are the rest of the band, just incredible

The fashion dress sense and hairstyles are typical of the 80s but the musicianship and playing of the Chick Corea Elektric Band is unmatched and second to none.

The people here insisting; "this is the best Fusion band" lack ☆discernment☆. Plain and simple. There is some great playing here and some great musicians here, but this is far, far, far from the best Fusion band. "by far" he said. When people include this idiotic term in the course of assessing or comparing things you KNOW to run away.
