Fantastic!! Rest in peace, Chick Corea. When one of my acquaintances said Chick passed away, I thouht he was joking.

What song is Corea quoting at 2:49?
@drumtwo4seven

Its probably just a line that sounds familiar (id guess) ie as in a common lick phrase etc.

I think it's the known melody of La Fiesta just like 3:02

This is the B section melody of La Fiesta. Not a quote

@Jazzkeyboardist1 (edit... not sure if sarcastic or not lol sorry) A "Quote" is usually a snippet of another song, possibly part of the same song but played out of order. That not this. He's not soloing here. He's playing the head at the top of the tune. Granted, this is Chick, so he's not going to play the head the same way every time, but functionally he is still going through the form for the first time, introducing us to the melody and themes that define La Fiesta. The solo section doesn't start in earnest until 3:34. Later, he plays variations on this melody during his solo around 5:15 to close out his solo and end out the tune.

@Jazzkeyboardist1 I would say that falls under the "out of order". To vocalize a passage from a book out side the context of the book and surrounding text, like in conversation at a book signing, would be a quote yes. But you are right what do I know, drummers don't write music ;) Roy haynes, Phil collins, brian blade, ringo ,dave grohl, Levon Helm. ALL MEDIOCRE HACKS.

a silly similie, but the music here is like pizza. you try cheese pizza first, and think it tastes great. you then try putting on a bunch of different kinds, like pepperoni and steak that make it taste even better than before. and then, like a ton of people, you get hooked on it.
