I bought a one acre place 3 years ago that has 4 sheds and a two car garage on it that was full of tools and stuff the previous owner left behind. I felt like a kid in a candy store! One thing he left was a two stroke ECHO GT 200 weed eater that I have ignored. (I'm not used to having landscaping stuff. Never needed to use them before.) I grew up watching my uncle run a small engine repair shop and learned so much from him. I started to follow the same when I got old enough, but as lawn mower engines changed from points and condenser to electronic ignition, carb's became cheap plastic non adjustable crap, and engines went to overhead valve i lost all desire to be a small engine mechanic. I still work on all my own stuff and some that friends bring me but wont do it commercially. I really appreciate your channel as it teaches others how to deal with the smaller things that can be kept out of the mechanic shop and save money. I've used Aspen 2-stroke for decades in my chain saws. More healthy exhausts, nice when surrounded by two feet of snow. Here in Sweden I can buy it from local farm/forest shops from pump in any quantity. As we have winter half of the year, lawn movers, motorcycles and other engines hibernate. I use Aspen 4-stroke last 2 fillings in autumn. Never have an issue with starting in spring. Even had an old motorcycle that after 6 years sleeping filled with Aspen started first kick. Here we can also buy Aspen high octane racing fuel.
@richardjames46327 ай бұрын
I also use Aspen in all my chainsaws and strimmers at the end of the season; clearly this issue that Chickanic has (repeatedly) with Trufuel (I think that may be the one) is simply not the same as Aspen Fuel. Aspen Fuel is a European product made in Sweden and it is available at numerous outlets in the UK and elsewhere.
@anderscomstedt30643 ай бұрын
Ditto, have had none of the issues with ageing over seasons with Aspen that seems to be rife in AL with whatever fuel you consider. My Scandinavian climate may differ, but otherwise... well. Have had various chainsaws, mowers, and above all machines that has not been used for years, snowblowers and vibrators, start and run flawlessly on the tank that was filled up long ago. Sure, it is more costly, but it burns very clean, no deposits, no smell. I seriously think you should consider evaluating this type of fuel deeper vs the alternatives you covered. Just the health aspects of poor combustion of inherently cancerogenic stuff, like regular gas, should be enough for most people . At least for the weekend warriors. Keep up the good work!

I'm so glad that someone has the courage to tell the truth about big box engineered fuel and that's why I joined your channel Bree. Many of the cheapo non-ethanol pump gas sellers have similar issues with that gas in the spring, the winter epa mandated or suggested mixes don't burn well on hot days. They both would sound like they were miss firing and would die as you let off the gas. This happened several years ago before I found your channel and the technician said quit using T fuel he introduced me to Echos brand so I switched to Echos brand and never had the problem again. Hey Brie, great job as usual, calling it an endoscope is just fine, many companies call them this. I used to use it every now and then when I wasn't using my chainsaw often enough to buy a big batch of fuel. It's perfect for intermittent use, but there are better quality brands than the one Chickanic tries not to speak of in her video. Sadly I used the one Chickanic is trying not to say and it gummed up my saw. So I've just been sticking to ethanol free high-octane fuel and storing it in a 100% sealed can for when I need it. I've also been adding in some MMO and Star-Brite Fuel Enzyme cleaner into the batch for longevity. :)

Bre, I'm enjoying being a Member and watching the extra content. In 2002 i bought a Husquvarna 55 from my local Dealer who I'd done business with for 30 years and I grew up with the Owners. I bought my saw in at the required Carb adjustment period and a professional sharpening. It was running great and I'm expert at sharpening. Whenever I had them sharpen my chain they'd take off alot of tooth. I got the saw back after 2 weeks! They said after the 4th day (when promised) the Mechanic had a death in the Family. After a week I inquired what was taking so long. I know the owners were capable of turning a screwdriver and making the adjustment. When I got it back 2 weeks later I went out to cut some trees and as always, I tested the saw before I went out to the woods. ( I had this saw, 2 Poulan Wild Things and two Homelite Super 2's. I ran them all regularly and sharpened them after every use. I also used a log roller to cant the logs. The saw was running at 3/4 throttle at best and the chain wouldn't bite at all. Disgusted, I bought it back and demanded my money back as it was apparent they were not capable of providing me with the Service I expected. I'm a Mechanic so I repaired all my own equipment and vehicles. I got banned from the store. There was another Dealer 8 miles from the Farm I worked on 35 miles from home which I began using as my go to shop.

One thing I went through this spring was I had used canned fuel last year as an experiment, while after adjustment of the carbs it ran ok, I didn't like what I saw, seems to be too much oil in the stuff, and the oil doesn't seem to burn, it fairly poured out of the exhaust. I decided to mix up a new 2 gallon batch of regular gas-oil fuel, and added the remains of the can fuel to the mix to burn it off. It seemed to work ok in my snowthrowers last winter, and it ran sort of in my old Lawn Boy mower, float bowl carb stuff, but it wouldn't run at all in any of my weed eater type fuel system lawn equipment come spring. I checked for water, and there was none. The carbs were getting fuel, but oddly, even with all the oil, the spark plugs were dry. Was getting spark, but not even the first pop out of some engines. Others would start and then die. I decided to mix up a new spring batch of my regular fuel oil-mix in a new gas can, clear all of the old fuel out of the equipment, and after carb adjustments again, all units started running great. I think what it is, is there is some kind of chemical reaction between the can fuel and regular gas-oil mix that completely stops the gas from working at all. I'd be afraid even to put it into my car to burn it off. Gonna have to find some way to dispose of it. Weed killer maybe?

Here in Michigan where we have many lakes, both natural and man made, alcohol free “Rec fuel” can be purchased at regular gas stations near popular boat launch facilities. Of course, 87 octane regular gas was $3.479 and 90 octane Rec fuel was $5.479 last week, so a 5 gallon can was going to cost an extra $10, but that is better than the Tru cost of a can of big box BS.

Been lucky here (NY) there is a popular convenience store (Stewart's) that sells real non-ethanol gas at the pumps. Became super popular after ethanol gas was pushed on us over 10 yrs ago. More expensive, I think 91 octane, but have had no issues in my Stihl saws, my old JD tractors, even my 1984 Squarebody original 350 V8. All the Harley guys like it too. Knock on wood (tap, tap) works. The ethanol gas wrecked my Q-jet in that truck, wrecked the Mikuni carb in a Polaris ATV, numerous other machines. Water globules in the bowls, either corrodes parts, separates from fuel, or the ethanol directly wrecks the original rubber parts. Thank you for all the tips and tricks, love all the useful gadgets!

You have a lot less humidity than most of us in the south and Midwest. I, too, have not had bad fuel in my equipment and I don’t even treat my ethanol fuel BUT I have found my experience on customers engines to usually be bad fuel. Either too lean and burned up or bad fuel. Literally 50/50 between those two issues or a mechanical problem. Am I lucky like you and half my customers not so lucky? I don’t know but all I can go by is my personal experience like her and this video. In 2 strokes oil and gas are everything. If you use crap oil or crap fuel or crap ratio your engine will suffer. @@ChickanicQuick question ( I hope ) Bre. Picked up a 21" Craftsman 6.5 Hp Mower I found in a storage unit. Looked really clean, nice shape. Looked underneath and blade was really bent. I did a google search and the online Craftsman parts assembly called it the " Blade Adapter ". Is it easy to remove the Blade adapter to replace it? Do I need any special tools or is there like an allen wrench nut under there holding it on? Hate to drag it to a shop if a very simple fix with some wrench. Thanks.

Bre - a very minor suggestion. Keep emphasizing the necessity of using a good quality 2-cycle engine oil!! I totally thought of you and thank you after this happened. I thought I had run out of my small supply of Echo oil and found one in my supply that I had actually bought from Sears. Figured it should be good, right? Even though they didn't make much of their own appliances, they had decent quality products (washers/dryers were LG, Maytag, Samsung) for the yard as well with MTD and TroyBuilt, etc. I made the mix and proceeded to work the yard. Nope. My Sthil trimmer coughed, knocked, and choked on the mix probably barely making it 6-8,000 rpm - and I'm guessing. That it was knocking was very evident and smoke coming out of the exhaust port. I got to HD and all I find is that Tru-Fuel crap, but they had two pallets of the trufuel, and no 2-cycle oil at all so I back home I went. I routed around again and found my last bottle of Echo and mixed that. If I hadn't found that, I was going to order some through your link and hold off doing anymore yard work. I poured everything out and put in the new mix. The blower fired up just fine and sounded 100% better. The Sthil trimmer coughed a bit in transitioning from one to the other but once it warmed up - it was like a totally different trimmer. No knocking, throttles up to max RPM without issue and I noted a major improvement in the torque while trimming. Thank you girl for all you do. Now I only go with Echo or Red Armour and I ordered Red Armour through your site. Just joined your group too!

Steve's video tested the marketing claim about Red Armor helping clean carbon deposits by showing two tanks of fuel with Red Armor run thru a carboned-up, Stihl, leaf blower. It actually went from having a spark arrestor screen near entirely plugged with carbon to being very clean after.

I've been buying Blue Planet Ethanol free gas for 3 year's or more now and have had Zero problem's. It's sold at Holiday Gas Station's which are now changing their name to Circle K station's. l add Stabil when it won't be used fast like in Winter and always add Marvel Mystery oil for top end and valve lubrication. I bought the Borescope on your recommendation and got the 4th of July edition when they were on sale. Keep up the good work Bre.

Thanks for the heads up for the borescope. I have use it a bunch on my several toys to assure they are really clean.

All I use is premium ethanol free gas from a dedicated pump and Husqvarna XP or Echo Red Armor oil and no problems. I like the bottled octane boost to keep you at peak performance. Not sure if it is liebfraumilch or an equivalent. Happy tuning.

I'm having a little trouble understanding the problem with canned fuel..The canned fuel I use is high octane, no ethanol....the engines seem to love it and it does not eat up fuel lines. Have you ever had an analysis done to determine what exactly the problem is with some canned fuel? Love you site!!!

Whenever I have someone bring me a motor, first thing I do is dump the gas into an extra fuel jug I have for "whatever fuels", then add some ethanol free pump gas. I have never had good luck with any of the canned fuels in any of my equipment. By doing that, it also ensures I am dealing with fresh fuel as well.

There is a QT store near me that carries the no ethanol gas…. Not only that it has its own pump too! No having to the car first. So I like that actually use that in my car also anyway. Did my yard work yesterday for the first time this season and everything ran great…😊

Love your channel and this is a bit off topic. I have Husqvarna 128LD that I bought from a neighbor. It ran well until it didn’t. I’ve tried a cheep carb and an OEM carb to no avail. Will not run smooth. New plug and fuel line and filter. Checked all the boxes, I got nothing. I have another Echo that I’ve had for 6 years and the only thing I changed is a plug and primer bulb. Heading out to get another Echo, could have saved myself some money and aggravation. Husqvarna’s are just junk! Thanks for reading my rant….

A guy who was cutting trees and brush on my property told me to use the pre-mix for my chainsaw. I didn't do it. It's no great burden to mix my own and my saw runs great even if I haven't used it in a while. Convenience isn't always the best way.

I have never used premixed gas. It does cost to much for my part. I'll just keep mixing my own, Thanks for the heads up. Keep up the good work info.

Here in Sweden Aspenfuel is the best we can buy. They even have exelent two stroke and two stroke outbord mixoil. And they have racing fuels up to about 100 octan ron. But we have to adjust the mixture if we change between aspen and pump gas. Aspen runs richer than our pump gas.

Quite an eye opener about that fuel, and thank you for sharing

Yes Aspen 2 works great as does Gulf (blue and orange can) for me. I have had bad cans of Trufuel so avoid it like the plague. It would not let the engine rev out.

I only use premium pump gas and add ethanol shield

I was going to ask about ASPEN which we have in the UK,I was relieved that you endorsed it because I always have recommended it to the older people who buy the odd machine from me, they will not need a great deal and it avoids them making mixing errors and I have always liked the results when using it. I do not think that we have alternatives to Aspen in the Uk. Obviously for commercial users ASPEN is way too expensive. Great Channel.....Awsome is the word!

Hey!You very to articulate and get to the point. I am very pleased with you videos and helpful advices. I only use Aspen gasoline...but in Sweden I get it to a lill better price than in Norway. It is Swedish gasoline with superb storange capacity...that means you can store it several years. Even heard they say 6 years...but I would not store it more than let say three years. But than again for most peoples...that is not actuel... because...do we not spend a five litres can...when doing sawing... and buy new one next time ! 🙂
