Hey guys! I had a lot of people recommend a helicoil. Although my customer knew of the option, he wanted the new engine. Being a unit he relies on when he has climbed up 40ft in a tree, he wanted it top notch again. Although helicoils are used often , they are not reliable in chainsaws that are run everyday with so much excessive vibration. Thanks for watching!
@forrestwright5981 Жыл бұрын
I never use helicoils on saws, but I do use solid thread inserts, which I've never seen fail, I'm a full time timber cutter that runs both husqvarna and stihl for 25 years. The thread inserts are called Timeserts

Hi, I've been watching your videos for about a year now, and their great. I've been cutting fire wood since I was 16, I'm 65 now, and working on saws, not as a business but as a collector, I've got around 40 big old mac's that I still use, I've got 4 that are my favorites. I've never found a small saw that I had much use for, that was dependable, until 3 years ago, I bought that little echo, and wow, it's my go-to saw, and I cut as much wood as some pro's do.mostly hedge, or Osage orange. Tho I do the big cutting with my 700, that echo does everything else, from 20 inches on down, mostly with one hand. It is an extraordinary,dependable,fun saw to run. Thanks for the videos you do a great job!

The first time I saw one of these, I literally thought it was a toy. Now have in my collection of saws (Arborist). I've used a couple of ported specimens and they are awesome. Also a bigger Echo climbing saw and the little battery saw, all awesome. Echos seem to be the best running saws out there and I recommend them when homeowners ask. Maybe not as tough as commercial Stihls or Husqvarnas, but they start reliably and quicker than anything. When I started working in the tree biz (1980s), a ground saw was a Husqvarna 181 (with a bow blade, BTW). One dude bought a small Echo, gussied up in John Deere colors, and it was the first saw that started so easily and would idle forever. One day, after all the other noisy stuff was turned off, we heard a little puttering and looked around and someone had forgotten and left the saw in some bushes, where it sat, and would have puttered away until the fuel ran out. This was remarkable in the 80s, at least for us. Other saws did get better as the years went by. Speaking of the 80s, I had one of tge last Pioneers, 80-something CCs, and the clutch spun off counterclockwise. And, not trying to be the safety police, but ear protection? Can't tell from the vids. Enjoying your vids, BTW. I do most of my own repairs, having learned from one of the best in my area (SC). I have an old McClane edger, and one of your vids has inspired me to repair the 3.5 hp B&S engine instead of replacing it with something newer.

At first i was impressed to see you let it idle for a bit as a break-in. But then i remembered my Echo dealer selling me his last Short Pole saw (ever seen one of those??), and he made a point that right at startup to give it a burst of full throttle. Explained that Echo states to do this on new engines to seat the rings (or something like that). I LOVE this short pole saw. I believe they are totally banned so you don't see them anymore, but you want to talk about a handy limbing tool. Forget about all that bending and reaching bs (even w/this tiny echo)... you just reach slightly and let the short pole saw get everything w/o ever having to bend down or over or whatever. Absolutely LOVE the thing. ...Gravity-feed bar oiler- has a little 'cup' on the inside: when you need oil you just flip the saw sideways to fill the cup and keep sawing. Great tool (but for sure dudes were cutting their toes off with them 😄 🤣 😂) 👍-

As a former journeyman ironworker, lots of guys hated "bar joist" jobs. They are the ceiling beams made of bent bars and angles. They wobble and at 40 feet, a fall is likely to paralyze you permanently. SALUTE TO ALL THE TREE GUYS OUT THERE !!!
@James-pd8tl8 ай бұрын
I enjoy your candor. My old 360T I put a panther 16 inch bar and 1/4 inch chain. Reason is oriented to the tree trunk while cutting a limb to the right side, a longer bar will allow you to cut using the saw right side up. The larger the trunk, the harder to cut right side limbs unless you turn the saw upside down. My new 2511T carrying a 14 inch bar is plenty good. Pleasure watching you and your knowledge/.

While I did find the bikini string piston stop creative, one thing I have found extremely useful is a roll of para cord. I bought a 1000 foot roll for next to nothing ten years ago. It is perfect for a piston stop. Cut three feet off the roll, melt the end with a lighter or propane torch, use it, and throw it away when you are done.

Have wanted the tiny Echo since it came out. If it were My saw... seeing pro use, i'd have had you put a thread insert in just so that we could mod the saw by boring it to .30 or .60 over. For the amount of times I have seen you use a screwdriver as a lever and a punch as a driver, I'm surprised that you don't use a 2 leg or 3 leg flywheel puller. I'm wheelchair bound and often the time between tyre changes means the wheels get rusted / weld themselves onto the tapered shaft. The puller often used to remove pulleys from engines works great to provide the pulling and the central pressure to remove the wheel. I'm surprised you don't use same, no shock transferred through to the bearings.

Great video. I don't remember seeing the second upclose camera before, I really like that. As far as the string in the cylinder, the guy who showed me that trick many years ago used a piece of recoil rope. It seemed to work well as long as the piston was above the exaust and intake ports. Keep up the great videos. Even after working on all kinds of small equipment, I am still learning stuff from you.

I was cutting a very large tree about 30 years ago with a almost new farm boss. Somehow the tree twisted and the saw got stuck. We worked on it for awhile and the tree twisted again and the sew fell on the ground. Then the tree came down vertically on the saw. Had to dig the saw out of the ground. I knew the saw was probably totaled so I gave it to a repair shop for parts. Bar was only thing usable. He said he'd seen them run over with bulldozers that weren't that bad.

Another great video! I like to save a little time and effort on the disassembly by leaving the spark plug in and using the compression of the cylinder as a piston "stop" (or more accurately cushion) when removing clutch and flywheel with an impact wrench. They come right off. Use short bursts on the clutch or it will come out spinning too fast and you may have airborne springs and shoes. You have to use a rope on the reassembly to get the torque right.

Top handle saws are great for saving time and frustration when you have been running a big felling/bucking saw for a few hours and you are into limbing the smaller stuff. Its almost like taking a rest stop.
@williambray4134 Жыл бұрын
Micro top handles actually make a lot of sense. The incredibly small over all size makes it easier to maneuver in tighter spots. The light much lighter weight means a lot less fatigue. All this means the saw will be safer to run longer. It's a limbing saw. It doesn't need a ton of cutting power to knock off branches.

It is designed to be able to use one handed up in a tree. It is almost difficult to get two gloved hands on the 2511T, it is that small. I talked an arborist I worked for into buying one in 2018 and he loved it even though he had larger more powerful top handle saws. Echo now makes a regular handle version of the 2511 but I have not used it
