The whole developed world is throwaway. If you ever visit developing nations (India is a great example) you’ll find whole streets of repair shops for everything from washing machines to tvs to toasters to cameras. You name it, you’ll find someone who’ll not only repair it, but fabricate any parts they need. Just like the USA in the 1950’s.

When installing an engine I put two bolts with the heads cut off loose into the engine in the positions that are easiest to get to on the tractor. They become alignment pins so it's now easy to place the engine and put the bolts into the harder to get at locations. When the other two bolts are put in it is now a matter of removing the alignment bolts and installing the mounting bolts. Makes life alot easier.

Great video, as usual. I don't have a business, just have a small shop where I do work to keep busy. I do get some stuff in from people who don't want it anymore. Fix it up if I can and either sell it for a small profit or give it away. Just got in a Troy Bilt self propelled mower, Troy Bilt Pressure washer, Troy Bilt edger, a Troy Bilt and Husqvarna trimmer, Poulon Pro chain saw and a Proforce 3000 generator. This stuff looked new. The guy that had it hired a yard care company and no longer needed the equipment. I've gone through most of it. Most had bad gas in it. Anyway, cleaned, replaced parts as needed, changed oil and got it all running. It will be sent back to him and donated for use by a veteran motorcycle group to either sell or give away to a vet. I've been a mechanic for over 40 years, jet engines, recips and a host of other equipment. Still learning.

I was glad to see that you installed a fuel shutoff valve in the fuel line - this is so important on any mower that has the fuel tank above the carburetor. I've lost track of the number of these engines on which I have seen both the needle valve in the carburetor, as well as the anti-backfire fuel cutoff valve at the bottom of the bowl, both leak ever so slightly, which can result in the cylinder filling up with fuel which then leaks past the rings into the oil. I had two neighbors who both lost engines due to this. Oh, also I would suggest transferring over the engine air intake shroud which helps keep the engine from recirculating hot underhood air, from the dead engine. I'd sell it for at least $650.

Why didn't you show us you chasing the fuel tanks round the yard with the pressure washer? 😂 A little advice for an angle grinder with a wire wheel, use a grinder with variable speed set to slow if you can, if the wire wheel suddenly grabs it nearly breaks your wrist and throws the wheel out of balance making it vibrate like crazy until you get numb hands and throw it away. Yeah! Been there, done that! Lovely job once again 👏👏👏

@MichaelBrandenburg-eu2kv7 ай бұрын
With the cost of new mowers these days (both push mowers and riders), going the "repower" route is getting to be an attractive option for mower owners who have bad engines on good decks -- but you may have problems if you change engine brands. In my own case, I had an MTD/Bolens push mower that I purchased in the year 2018 whose original 140cc Briggs & Stratton engine failed due to compression loss after the engine's air filter and its cover fell off while I was mowing with it and the engine probably then took in too much unfiltered air. So, wanting a quick replacement for this failed engine, I went down to the Harbor Freight Tools store in my area and purchased one of their 173cc vertical shaft Predator/"Chonda" engines, and though it bolted right onto the old MTD/Bolens mower deck, the crankshaft of this new engine was about ¼-inch longer than the one on the Briggs & Stratton engine it was replacing, which put the mower's blade uncomfortably close to being below the mower's housing. So I had to do that engine swap job over again; this time putting rubber spacers between the new engine and the mower's deck, and I also had to add an engine throttle control cable to the mower's handle (about $11 from Home Depot) because the mower's original Briggs & Stratton engine didn't have one --- and now we'll see how this new engine performs with the new mowing season!

Hey chickanic. First off where did you get that oil drain extender ? I came across something you will find very cool. I was watching a really awesome KZbinr called NBS welding. He had a self propelled wheelbarrow of sorts that had a Honda engine and was used for concrete by construction companies. I nearly spit out my coffee when he said that new this thing was over 10,000 dollars. I quickly looked it up and holeeee. Certainly it was more than 10K. I saw another KZbin who built one of these things "a self propelled dumper with hydraulic dump". My best friend and business partner said , hey you can make one of those from that tractor you have sitting behind the shed. I did not sell it for 10,000 dollars but I have to say it sold so fast at 3,500 that I am sure a ride on instead of a stand on would easily sell for way higher and you can have the warranty or at least do the repairs on the unit because you know it better than anyone. Next time I would use a hydrostatic transmission. Are you up here in Pa?
