I've been in construction my whole life ( 73 so far) and I can tell you and everyone masons and concrete guys never take care of anything and I mean anything. A good friend of mine didn't change the oil in his truck for 5 years at least until when he took it in to the shop the oil wouldn't even drain out of the pan. You can guess what came next new truck way cheaper that way.

Years ago a neighbor borrowed my chainsaw. I heard it going to town and walked over to see what he was cutting. As I rounded the back corner of his house I witnessed my saw with the Bar a foot and a half in the dirt cutting roots. I was so mad I just turned around an left. When I got my saw back it was basically ruined. I never loaned the guy anything and basically blew him off from then on. Dirty MF’r. Never again ! Nobody I mean Nobody borrows anything of mine.

I have ,but I was feeding an engine on a blown up pressure washer speedy dry 😂 Damn crap clogged up the plug and I had to pull it and clean it to keep running it. Damn thing cost money trying to blow it up too,it sucked down 2 tanks of fuel with the throttle tied wide open before I had to drain some oil to finish it off. After that ,I pulled the plug and it was beautiful and shiny after going thru the sandblaster😂

Yep I own one just like that. But mine still works. They are a major pain to maintain. But when you do they last for many years. We wash it off every time we cut with it wet. Blow it off with air when cutting dry. filters are a bit pricey but cheaper than a new saw.

Yep I used to work in construction and the guys don't take care of the equipment because its not theirs they are supposed to be using water connection or pump up spray bottle to control dust .It's a pain but a must to control dust . Never seen one that bad thanks for the video.

I did concrete saws for years. I gave the customers the aftermarket parts option $250 labor and $350 parts they would usually go for the repair. Then the next time they wiped it out I would sell them a new saw.

As i run/own my own small engine repair shop in the UK(MENDASAW LTD).I supply non genuine parts for these Husqvarna Concreate saws and the Stihl Concreate saws. I have seen so many of them destroyed by lack of maintenance and abuse i have a shed full of dead saws about 25 of them.The cost of a non genuine cylinder is £32 - £81 depending on the model.I have been selling these repair kits for over 10 years and find them great value to save a few of these saws and re sell them/repair them cheaply.They are Nikasil plated kits and are realy good quality for the price.Gaskets sets and crank bearings are about £15 -£30 a set depending on the model.These are well worth the small investment and time to save these saws using the non genuine parts.Another thing i do before starting a repair on these dirty saws is steam clean all the crap off them and blow the water off with the air line this gets rid of all most all of the dust and is much better to work on and does not leave your bench top heaped up with concreate dust.

I actually thought that it might somehow start. I figured it would run poorly but that it would start. Oh well. All that cement dust is a part of the reason the maker of those saws say to run water with the saw. It helps keep the dust down and out of your saw , not to mention keeping all that dust out of yourself.

Electric tools, I sometimes loan them to friends that I know won't abuse them and know how to use them. My small engine tools, I wouldn't even loan them to the CEO of Stihl. Too many issues can occur, from straight gassing, to overheating the clutch and burning up the crankcase seals. Hell nah.

I just did one of these saws. Piston was toast. Make sure you mix your fuel and oil correctly. Done a few with only fuel and no oil mixed in. If not sure mix another batch. Expensive repair. Love the channel

I’ve built a heap of these and the Stihl equivalent. They cop an absolute flogging with basically no maintenance. Just a quick going over with compressed air after each day would save so much trouble. Love the channel too Bre. 👍🏼

The concrete saws I'm familiar with, have diamond blades, lubricated with water. There shouldn't be any dust in that case. This saw may have used a dry cut carborundum blade. I'm sure these rental stores see some pretty nasty stuff.

That's been run without a filter! Either that or it wasn't fitted right and sucked dust through a gap! I find the filter clogs real fast and needs cleaning regularly which most owners/operators can't be bothered to keep doing so the filter comes off and left off.

One of my childhood friends is a mason mainly pools and hard scapes, back in the day he would buy those makita concrete saws and would go through at least one a year. I would help him whenever he needed a hand and he finally bought a Stihl and I told him about time you bought a good saw if you blow that thing out every use or once a week it’ll last you. He finally took my advice and has had that saw for two years running now

had a 2003 craftsman 42cc 18in chainsaw come in for a "simple" fuel line repair and primer bulb. I did it only to have it still not start. pulled the muffler off and seen the cylinder was absolutely destroyed.

I don't know much about concrete cutting but I do cut and polish rocks of all kinds and it's very, very important to have a mask or some kind of respirator on when working around any kind of rock/concrete dust like that in order to prevent inhalation of the dust which could cause health problems. Just food for thought for the next time something like this comes in...

I find that many people don't keep the caps on their gas cans, they leave them open all the time. Sometimes I see them left outside where they can get rained into, other times I'm guessing the ethanol in the gas absorbs water from the air.

dry cutting has ruined more of those saws than anything else. its just as easy to destroy the old primer than deal with all that mess. a 1/2 inch end mill chucked in your drill will knock the bottom off then you can reach through with a pick and release the tabs. once the body is out of the way you can remove the hoses. they usually extend far enough to get them started back on. imho the old ones with the round filter seemed much better

Hey Bre! Everyone. Normally when you are on site the one who grabs the chop saw and saws pavement, concrete or reinforced concrete pipe is the lowest person on the totem pole. A tidbit of advice. The dust particles produced by this operation will kill you. The long term exposure to these particles leads to silicosis which is the fatal lung disease that strikes down so many miners. It is irreversible and a very painful way to die. Affected individuals simply suffocate. I encourage you Bre and everyone else that if you are exposed to this to wear a respirator or at least a N95 mask. Stay safe. End of my PSA.

I'm with you, I hate fixing cut off saws. Too much stuff crammed too tightly together and those things that require the frequent service can be the most difficult to access. BTW, the gas tank was full of water because those saws are always covered in water. As for expensive equipment, have you had the opportunity to work on the Husqvarna 555FXT "forestry saw" brush cutter? Imagine a string trimmer with a $1,600+ price tag.

I saw the split in the air filter where all that crap entered the combustion chamber. No maintenance. Paper filter elements and cooling water and not good partners. That cylinder had a stripe of aluminum on it from overheating and seizing on top of all. I have scraped the aluminum from the cylinder and replaced the ring when the cylinder was not scored. That is not something you could expect a shop to do. Like the Chicanic says, labor and parts nearly equal a new saw. DIY could make it work but who wants one for around the house?

Chup/cut off saws work in real dusty environments. The cylinders,pistons and rings will wear out real quick. The dust just sands everything down, Air filter maintenance is crucial.

ive been in concrete since '95 and ive NEVER seen such a neglected chopsaw. ive boughten my own saws for work so when i need a saw i have one that works and that DOESNT look like this one. after every time i cut concrete, it gets blown off with the leafblower. during layoff, my saws get stripped down for a deep cleaning and everything gets changed. the guys at work know better than to even ask.a $1100-$1500 for husqvarna k770 or stihl ts500i on average new or $400-$600 good used condition at the local pawnshop.

Contractors will store water in fuel cans, especially with concrete saws as they need water to keep the blade cool so my guess is they accidentally pick up the water can instead of the fuel can & pour water in to the fuel tank.

That sounds like a really dumb move from the start... How much does it cost for a container that actually is labelled "water" to begin with? $20? Nothing compared to the lost time from a tool not working. Meanwhile, I do know why it happens... I always feel really naughty when I fill up our diesel container with regular unleaded petrol because I'm pretty sure that's actually illegal here. But it's not for work. Just a personal residential use one.

Milwaukee makes a cordless one for about the same price, and often run a deal where you get a spare battery for pennies more. I know it's fashionable to hate on cordless, but you never have to reconnect the carburetor on a cordless tool. just saying.

From the looks of it, chop saws are probably the dirtiest machines to deal with at the end of the day, and my guess is that if you aren't the one that has to pay for it, you aren't going to spend time cleaning and maintaining it, especially if it is going to cause you to have to get home late.

I wonder if the design of that lug and single screw contributes to the problem. Once the filter is blocked, does it allow for air (and concrete dust) to get sucked into the cylinder. Yes it is still a lack of maintenance, but does the design exacerbate to consequences?

@@mavv7088 Once the air filter becomes saturated with dust (which I imagine doesn't take very long), the engine intake will pull air from the path (or source) of least resistance, which I assume would be from between the sealing surfaces of the intake boot & cylinder, carburetor & air filter, & also (possibly) some air through the air filter as well. The amount of air entering the engine must be sufficient for combustion, or the engine wouldn't run, but concrete dust would be entering with the air, since some of the entering air would bypass the air filter.

More than likely your assessment that the engine is ruined is correct BUT to be absolutely certain: #1 is there spark?, #2 is there adequate compression?, and #3 is the carburetor working properly? With all that cement dust lying in the intake and behind the air filter I suspect the engine isn't even getting any fuel from that clogged carb. Perhaps you checked all 3 items, and if so I'm sorry I missed it in this video.

Oh man ! Portland cement dust is nasty. You not only need to keep a close eye on that air filter but blow out the entire saw with a compressor after each use. It loves to clog up cooling fins and anywhere else it can get.

It is amazing how much people abuse their equipment. I had three riding mowers and 2 push mowers given to me a few years ago by the same person. They had all been sitting in his yard for several years. I was able to get 2 of the riding mowers and both push mowers running for less than $50 total. It just took a couple of carb jobs and a valve adjustment. He never maintained them at all, and just bought a new machine every time that one of them broke down.

I don’t know if my question got put up or not when you’re starting those bigger saws chainsaws you’re pulling the cylinder over to get it through the compression stroke and you usually roll it over three times. Do you have the choke on or off at that point because I see you flip the ignition on but I don’t see you actually hitting the choke must be doing both of them at the same time, I’m thinking let me know. So, it is greatly contaminated with concrete dust, the fuel was water contaminated; water and concrete dust get mixed and we have cement. IF it was running and still had compression despite that cylinder gouge, then the water and dust mix must have clogged the carb. Poo widdle saw...
