Sorry about the eggs but. That story about Benny was so funny. Nice to see that pets and working dogs can blend seamlessly

Most livestock guardian dogs have a very strong instinct to guard. You should not have a problem in that area... if you want the dog to do something special... you will need to train for that. But, by in large your dog will want to protect your entire property from intruders. Your 1 year old should be showing signs of guarding by now but it may take a while until they are confident adults.

Cherokee loves the tummy rubs! 🐶👍 I hypothesize that one of the reasons dogs love humans so much is that our soft five-fingered hands can scratch so much better than a dog's paw can (and better than a dog rubbing their itchy part against something). Plus, our fingers can easily reach places a dog's paw would have difficulty reaching (or can't reach at all). And that's maybe why they roll over so much in our presence or persistently demand that we scratch & pet them.

thanks for the video, I really prefer anatolian and akbash but the way you try to show the people the value of a LGD is very admirable, have a nice day, best regards!!

What GPS tracker do you like?
@ChickaWoofRanch6 жыл бұрын
We have not used them sorry! We have opted for a perimeter fence to keep our dogs from wandering. We were afraid they were gonna be hit by a car or a distant neighbor would shoot them for trespassing. We had to put hot wire on top of the 4ft fence to keep them from climbing over. We have another video on that. Thanks commenting!

The first dog looks very similar to Greek sheepdog :)

Not to be argumentative but one of your videos mentioned using trackers. You showed on your phone how you could track the dogs. I'm just trying to make sure I get the best bang for the buck tracker. Thanks

Wasn’t our video. We don’t use them. Maybe you saw our video when explained the use of a perimeter shock collar but it does not use gps.

What breeds do you suggest for places with warmer/more humid climates like North Carolina?
@ChickaWoofRanch5 жыл бұрын
We think most LGDs will do fine in most climates. If you are concerned about them getting to hot there are lots of ways to keep them cool. One of the best ways is to keep them brushed with access to plenty of water... even a baby pool for soaking in. Lots of shade is another huge part. Good luck and thanks for watching!!!

do you mean english mastiff and pyrenean mountain dog/ pyrenean mastiff??????????

You said you liked mix breeds. Do you prefer specific mixes? Mix types? Or just random whatever comes along? Personally I think if I was gonna get a non purebred working dog I would probably look for at least a mix of that type. Now most pets we've had have been whatever came up. But back when my Dad wanted a hunting dog if it was a mix he wanted it to be all hound. Just a few thoughts. I figure whatever works for your needs. Myself I think theirs a legit place for both purebred and mixes.
@ChickaWoofRanch7 жыл бұрын
T Ritchie what all livestock guardian dogs have in common is they all have a very low prey drive. So, as long as you get a mix of lgds they you will be fine. Mixing a terrier breed in with an lgd will give you unpredictable results.
@RandySoWavvy6 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything except getting 2 at the same time. It's always best to get 1 train it until adulthood and then get a second dog so the first 1 can help train it. When you have 2 puppies training easily triples and as soon as you correct 1 puppy the other will start to do it they easily will double team you. LGD puppies are already hard to train no need in making it way harder on yourself.
@ChickaWoofRanch6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you completely. We did end up getting two puppies (liter mates) however we are training one of the puppies for a friend of ours that will be moving to an off grid location. We did see some of the difficulty in training two at once but the problems were minimized because of the prep work we did ahead of time knowing and understanding how a LGD thinks. Thanks for watching
@RandySoWavvy6 жыл бұрын
Chick-a-Woof Ranch I had no doubts you guys having 2 would work. You have the experience with LGDs and understand how they work and also understand the importance in separating the puppies and working with them individually. Sadly most think if you get 2 puppies you can throw them in with the livestock and the puppies will just play with each other and leave the livestock alone. It seems there's always someone who wants to skip out on training and just hope the dog will turn out perfect 😔

You might be right. We are hoping to do a genetic test this year to find out. When we did this video a few years ago the genetic tests were very expensive. Will probably make a video on the results so stay tuned

my question so please dont take offence... but you say you like mixes..... but why.... LGDs have been around for thousands of years all around europe and middle east and turkey and mid asia the countries just above iran and next to iran.... the pure breed LGDs... so how is it that you think that mix breed LGDs are better... if that was the case dont you think they would of mixed them thousands of years ago........
