Where did you go in Japan?

Great progress! I had to look it up and the part that connects to the foundation is the “sill plate”. Since you get typhoons in your area with high winds you may want to add some bracing between the sill plate and the columns and between the columns and the top horizontal and slanted joists. This url is for houses and it should give you some ideas on the type of bracing: edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdf/AE/AE41300.pdf. Great job!

Just curious, why did you go to all the trouble to make a solid foundation and secure the sill plate with heavy duty anchors, but you only secure the columns with a few screws?

Because I'm make it up as I go along and don't really know what I'm doing! Probably the closest I can get to the correct answer!
