Ahhh! Chicken Divan! Haven't had it since my mom made it back in the 70s! Totally forgot about this dish. Thanks for the nostalgia!

Oh yum! Yeah it was me who requested chicken divan on your london broil video boys. I will make it again when I have left over turkey or chicken, broth and broccoli. I made it a little different than you, but I never have seen anybody make it or used a receipe, it just kinda came to me what to use. Thumbs up! Love creamy chicken or turkey divan. Last week I cooked up home made cheddar and broccoli soup for the first time. I had about a pint of it left over then I turned it out by adding some plain cream cheese and cooked macaroni and made the best mac n cheese ever. And of course with some bread crumbs on top. Oh I did not know you lived in Detroit. I knew you lived in Michigan. I live right across the river in Windsor. Now you got me wanting to make Chicken Divan today because I rendered down a roast chicken carcass in my crock pot for broth yesterday and have a bowl of chicken in the fridge. No broccoli though. Oh well I am meaning to make chicken stew and biscuits and have a spinach salad tonight. Oh and have a Happy TG!

***** Thanks so much for suggesting this dish!! We are hoping to have some leftover turkey (it doesn't always happen!) so we can make the turkey version of this dish after Thanksgiving. That soup turned into mac and cheese sounds incredible...now that was a good use of a leftover! We're neighbors! We love traveling to Canada! The chicken stew you've got cooking sounds like the perfect dish for a cold and cloudy day like we are having today!! Stay warm and thanks again for your great suggestion!!

Hey Kevin, Ralph and Maryann ! I just LOVE your videos. They are done in such a way that I feel like I'm right there in your kitchen with you. It's great. Irony of watching is seeing all that we have in common. cook ware, utensils, gadgets, methods, etc. I have the same passion for old stoves. In my possession is a gas 1929 Tappan that until I moved to here ,it was the daily use stove. Along with my 1929 GE refrigerator. Both are idle at this time. Another stove is a 1930 Kalamazoo combination range. 4 eyes and oven operate off wood or coal. 4 burners, a broiler and an upper oven use gas. Then there is three 40" ranges from 1940's-1950's A Kelvinator, A Frigidaire and a Hot Point. Right now the Kelvinator that weighs the v same as a tank is in use. The Frigidaire is rare I think because I can't find any info on any that have the one oven that is the width of the stove! I used to do baking and wedding cakes. That big old oven was a Godsend! Take care and I'll keep watching my friends in Detroit from here near Youngstown, Ohio

I made Chicken Divan for dinner last Monday night. I had a lot of leftover roast chicken from dinner on Sunday night and made it the same way as you, except instead of using all mayonnaise I used 1 cup of mayo and 1 cup of Greek yogurt. It makes me feel like it's a little bit healthier, even though it's probably not true ;-) Another old fashioned dish I'd like you see you do is Tuna noodle casserole. I've made this many times over the years but I never seem to make it the same way twice. I've used different types of pasta, different types of tuna (water packed, oil packed, fresh etc.) different types of vegetables, different types of sauces (mornay, béchamel, mushroom soup, etc.). This recipe seems to be indestructible because no matter what I do to, it always turns out delicious! It would be interesting to see what kind of spin you do on this classic American comfort food. I love the banter between you and Ralph, it's like visiting with two old friends in their kitchen (except I don't get to chime in!).

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!
@cavalcadeoffood10 жыл бұрын
Hi Howard - using the Greek yogurt probably also gives it a really nice tang - not sure about how much healthier it might be, but I'll bet it tastes great ;-) We will have to do a tuna casserole one of these days...ours is pretty traditional, except sometimes we spice it up a little or add in a little bacon (just because it's already pasta and cheese, what could a little bacon hurt?) Wishing you and wonderful Thanksgiving!

Very nice guys! This recipe would be a good way to get rid of left-over Thanksgiving turkey! Duke's mayo is one of my favorites and is a constant in my kitchen. Happy Cooking! PS - I too am excited for the next great stove exchange :-)
@cavalcadeoffood10 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam - you're right - this is great with turkey!! They don't sell Duke's here in Michigan but I'm lucky to have a brother who lives in the south and he brings me up all kinds of great things! Not sure what next year's cottage stove will be, but I'll plan on another spring stove exchange!

I made the best chicken noodle casserole ever using chicken instead of tuna since my husband doesn't eat tuna. It took a little mayo, less than this recipe, but he doesn't like mayo either (yes, I tried to sneak it) so he didn't care much for the delicious casserole. Obviously he just doesn't like that tang. A few days ago he told me that he no longer likes the barbecue sauce in pork or chicken BBQ. Dear Lord! He says it makes his mouth pucker. I just looked at him.
@cavalcadeoffood10 жыл бұрын
Laura - thanks for your note. Well, sorry your husband isn't a mayo fan, but another alternative (a little more work) is to make a medium to heavy white sauce instead. It won't have any sharpness but will add a creaminess to the dish. I don't know what to tell you about the BBQ sauce!! Thanks so much for watching!!

Ralph you read my mind, I was going to say the Divan looks divine, LOL! You have me curious about that mayo, how does it compare with Hellmans??
@cavalcadeoffood10 жыл бұрын
craftlover9 - you and Ralph are on the same page!! Duke's mayo has a wonderful tanginess, perhaps a little more so than Hellman's, although Hellman's is my usual brand because they don't sell Duke's in the north. Thanks so much!!

@cavalcadeoffood10 жыл бұрын
Hi moon lily! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ours was great - had a houseful of family and friends. The menu was pretty traditional - roast turkey, two kinds of dressing (one we will be featuring on an upcoming CoF video), mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted asparagus, puree of butternut squash, cranberry relish, kielbasa (we HAVE TO have something Polish on the buffet!), warm rolls and butter and then a couple of different pies for dessert. If anyone left hungry then it was their own fault! Thanks for watching!
