Oh! I really loved this one. My sister had a similar insiden, when she worked at the restaurant at the airport (nightshift) around 1968. She was in the locker room getting ready for her shift, and this other waitress came in and set next to her. She (my sister) asked her when did you get back? She was out sick, with cancer I think? She replied: oh tonight, I'm much better.. So when my sister went on the floor, she told another coworker, she spoke with so and so in the back, and she looks great! The woman looked at her puzzled? And said she past away a few days ago. Some of the other workers seen her also. They all said she looked happy

This is one of my favorite stories told by Lopaka. I remember taking my students on the "walking tours" with Glen (before he passed). Glen would always ask me how many students I was bringing...I always told him three over the amount I was expecting. Lopaka is great and things happen when we go on the tours. I remember the last time I was on the tour going to Morgan's Corner - the bus stalled twice at the site!

What you did at Nanakuli Intermediate and High School is amazing! It is a great way to teach Keiki how to do public speaking. Something that should be taught in school. They will need it for interviews and school projects. Mahalo for doing that!

Aah that was such a good story, the lady in the water is like the one who was in the picture brides story "Midori" back in the 40's I think and as an old woman she tells glen what happened, that's pretty exciting to hear two separate incidents roughly 30 years apart, both were casters on overnight fishing trips, super cool Lopaka ,the history of them , thank you so much for the time you take to make these videos

I heard a similar story a few years back only related to the ghost in the sea part. 2 guys went fishing Kohala coast on the cliffs overnight. After they set up and casted their poles out they waited a while and then the bell started going off like it was a huge strike. So the guy gets his pole sets the hook and starts reeling. The second guy grabs his flashlight shines on the line and follows it into the ocean to try and see if he can spot the fish. He shines his light following the line and sees a man climbing up the fishing line from the sea. They both see the man cut the line grab their gear and haul ass. The appearance of the ghost was never described to me so I have no idea about that part. I have also heard that up that side Kohala there are things still untouched that should be in museums true ancient hawaiian artifacts.

I'm not surprised, Kohala seems like the perfect place for shapeshifting Mo'o to find refuge in, I miss living up there because of how peaceful and truly country it still feels up there (especially next to Waimea, despite their new buildings).

Aloha Mr Lopaka.....where you are, in that playground....is it by the Queen Emma Summer Palace? if so and you mentioned a house in the backside.....the only house I can remember is one that I remembered "being blessed" after a young man was then-tormented by obakes (after a crime happened, the media dug up the history of this house and made it public). I know the crime committed but out of respect, will not mention names or street location. If the spirit was that powerful, its wonder why they could not get rid of it....and "he" was telling the truth.

Great story! I remember reading about calling spirits in one of glen’s books. The story was of a boy playing outdoors in the big island and a beautiful girl was luring him into the bushes where, unbeknownst to him, was a lava tube. If he had took a few more steps he would’ve fallen in. I wonder if the lady was one of those.

Wow!!! It must be true that the spirit of dead lingers and roams around the earth for 40 days and nights, before it goes to either the presence of The Creator or Gehena awaiting their 2nd death.

Love this story and so scared at the same time, cause I'm actually really scared of the sea, rivers, lakes and swimming pools, it's kind of a phobia. This poor Mr. Kawamoto got scared by… a mermaid? Was that a mermaid? By the way what's the hawaiian word for "mermaid"?
