Welcome Chetna and her delicious recipe for Chicken Tikka Masala to the channel! Tender chicken marinated and baked in a spicy yogurt dressing before being tossed through a rich tomato sauce with cashew cream and coriander. So full of flavour, this popular Indian dish tastes better than anything from the local takeaway.
If you want more delicious recipes from Chetna including those inspired from her time on The Great British Bake Off check out her channel here : / @foodwithchetna or her website chetnamakan.co....

Been dying to make this so took a stab at transcribing the recipe. I'm from the US, so apologies to the metric loving rest of the world. I dug through the comments too and added some notes of things @foodwithchetna recommended when ingredients couldn't be found. I'm sure I messed up here and there. Chicken Marinade 1/2 cup natural yogurt 1/2 tsp turmeric 1 tsp kasmiri chili powder (or 1/2 tsp regular chili powder) 1/2 tsp garam masala 1 tsp salt 4 cloves garlic (grated) thumb-sized piece ginger (grated) 1 tbs mustard oil (or sunflower) 1.5lbs - 2lbs boneless chicken breast (sliced in to strips) Combine all ingredients above, making sure to coat all of the chicken. Cover and put in the fridge for minimum 2 hours, but preferably overnight. Cashew Marinade Combine 2oz cashews and 2oz of whole milk and soak for the same amount of time as the chicken marinates. ---- Preheat oven to 400F. Lay the chicken flat in a baking dish coated with vegetable oil. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes to get it golden brown and careful not to let it burn. While the chicken is cooking... Make the sauce. Heat some vegetable oil in a skillet over low-medium heat. Add the following whole spices: 1 tsp cumin seeds a few bay leaves a few black cardamom pods a few green cardamom pods 1 cinnamon stick Let it cook while you roughly chop 2 onions and a few green chili sand add to the veggie oil, sautee the onions for 5-7 minutes on low-medium heat. While the onions are cooking... Grate 3 cloves garlic and small nubbin of ginger in to the onions and cook for a few minutes. Then add 5 chopped tomatoes and cook for 10-15 minutes on medium-low, covered. Add 4 tablespoons tomato paste and chopped cilantro stalks (more flavor then leaves). Cover and cook for 10 minutes... Mix these spices to the sauce and cook for a few minutes: 1 tsp coriander powder 1 tsp kasmiri chili powder 1 tsp garam masala 1/2 tsp turmeric Add the cooked chicken to the sauce and mix it in. Grind the cashew nuts and milk in to a paste and add to the sauce. If at any time you ever feel it is too dry and you need more water, feel free to add. Optionally, square some onion and green pepper for extra crunch. Stir in 2oz of heavy cream (I don't know what double cream is). Top with chopped cilantro leaves. You can take the whole spices out, but it is traditional to leave the in.

This is a great recipe! I cooked this for several people and they loved it. But with recipes that are so long with so many ingredients it would be really helpful to have a summary and a shopping list somewhere. Like I had to watch it 6 times and write down everything in order to be able to cook this dish...

Oh Chetna! Chetna Chetna Chetna! I just made this.... the BEST dinner ever!!!!! So tasty, I didn’t even marinate the chicken for long. The cashews give a wonderful thickness and texture to the sauce. Thank you 🙏🏼🥰💖❤️💕😋

we usually use roasted nuts with our food, they add a nice crunch to it. but i don't think we use nut purees in our recipe only desserts and sweets maybe

That green pepper at 3:15, that is not a spicy kind right? Also, I want to add more vegetables to this dish, what would you recommend and what spices would be good on those veggies? Also, how big is your teaspoon??? Some of those portions seemed huge!

yup we indian use many many spices :3.. many people complains about that. but we can't help it, we are like living on spices :3.. and we love these :).. it's a very easy recipe.. in some traditional dishes there are so much techniques that even we can't figure it out, so just throw the spices and mix it roughly not gonna work :/.. just have patience and njoy while making these long dishes :) and trust me any dish will come out from heaven ;)

I just made this vegan by using coconut yoghurt in the marinade and using more cashews in oat milk instead of cream!! for the chicken I used 'THIS isn't chicken salt and pepper pieces'- expensive but worth it. I really miss chicken tikka masala ready meals from supermarkets since going veggie and this tastes really similar in the best way possible, super rich and flavorful, and obviously infinitely better for u! Thanks for the recipe Chetna!

Hi, I’m absolutely in love with this delicious dish I’ve cooked it over and over again, thank you for showing us how to cook it. I would like to ask your advice I would like to do this recipe for my sister but she’s a pescatarian so I would like to do it with king prawns. Can I marinade them the same as the chicken? Also can I cook them in the oven or should I cook them in the sauce? I would really appreciate your advice. x
