Looks great, Lisa. I would need to plan this way in advance, though. I hope I’ll try it in the future. As it is, I cube the chicken, sauté it 5 minutes, then simmer it in the patak’s 15 minutes. Eat it with naan, which is much improved by heating it with a little olive oil in a fry pan for about 1 minute per side and having a simple raita with diced cucumbers, plain yogurt, and sprinkling with cumin powder. The entire meal takes 20 minutes and I can do it easily after a day of work.

I just bought this sauce from Walmart and figured I’d look up a way to add some flavor to it as premise sauces in jars tend to be less appetizing than freshly made. So this was exactly what I was looking for!!! I can’t wait to try this recipe. It looks delicious!!

I use to run an Indian restaurant, ( im a white American) but i know food and this is on point :) the premade sauce will save you a long time, because from scratch it's best to let it sit overnight.

That and base gravies take time, a lot of prep and generally is a lot of work. I used to make authentic tikka masala at home and my wife loved it, but the amount of work...it was almost a half day thing because it made no sense to make a small amount of gravy since it takes so long.

I'm doing the same thing tonight with the exact sauce. I'm ashamed that I got it because I do everything homemade, but I knew I wouldn't have time to totally put something together. This jarred sauce with the other ingredients definitely helps out a tiny bit and adds a different flavor!

The fact that an actual Indian person would use Patak's says all I need to know about the brand. I've been using them for years, and I also somewhat often get Indian food from my favorite carts or restaurants. I haven't done anything like a side-by-side test, but that would be interesting. Anyway, my point is, if she thinks it's authentic enough to use, then I know my taste buds haven't been leading me astray. (I also get the garlic Naan from Trader Joe's. It's very close to my fav.) I'd love to see a series of these videos using Patak's (Korma especially, but also Tandoori, Rogan Josh, Jalfrezi, Tandoori, Makhani, etc.) I know it's "lazy," but it's really convenient to use store-bought jar sauce and add a few inexpensive things to make it a bit more robust. I love Indian food. I think the next step for me is to explore the various regions and variations on common dishes. I think I'm only most familiar with Goa...

@LisasChannel2 жыл бұрын
I added salt while marinating the chicken. And the store bought sauce usually contains some salt , so I didn’t need any. But always do a final taste test before removing from gas and adjust accordingly. I often say this in my videos 😊. For the tandoori masala if u can find it add some cinnamon powder, cardamom powder along with red chilli and turmeric. A little bit of kasuri methi. It should work. Thank you for watching and trying it out. Love hearing all your feedbacks.

I don't understand the addition of other ingredients to the jarred sauce. Isn't the sauce by itself a realistic depiction of tikka masala, or are you doing it because it needs more flavor or want to stretch the amount of sauce, or both? This is not a criticism, just a curious observance. Thanks.
