You know I love these chicken videos! Do you think it would be more cost beneficial to have a slower growing bird, that would hopefully consume less food in the long run?

The cockerels that I did last year were about 26 weeks old when I started to kill them. They weighed about the same and had the same amount of feed as the Ross Cobbs but the meat was nearly all on the legs and thighs. I think Ross Cobbs are fantastic birds just need to find cheaper feeds. 👍🏻

Brill I think they’re definitely ready.. I did a test with mine as well processed the smallest bird and the biggest bird and then decided they were good and set up and did the other 19 in one day, all hands on deck husband made me a barrel plucking machine which was a godsend! Good luck hope you get some tasty meat I’m sure you will!

How long did it take to sort all 19 out?

@@doingoutdoors875 around 5 hours but there were 3 of us we had a bit of a production line, one on killing and bleeding, one on dipping and plucking and one on gutting/dressing. I think if we were hand plucking it would have taken us twice as long maybe even longer. Also husbands first time gutting/dressing and he got quicker the more he did!

Looking good Benj, idea for free chicken food, if you can make a pond and get some frogs then young frogs make a great protein addition to chickens diet. If done right you can have hundreds / thousands of frogs. chickems love em

That’s something I hadn’t thought about, I’ve seen them eating mice before now. Definitely going to put a pond in one day more for trying to get wild duck and geese in to supplement my protein! 👍🏻

Hey Declan everything is all good. Just been super busy with the farm and other bits and bobs so the video editing has taken a back seat 😅. Hopefully have something out over the weekend all being well. 👍🏻
