Chicken with egg yolk peritonitis. What I do for treatment.

Hello everyone! If you have chickens you know there is always something to do. I currently have a hen with egg yolk peritonitis. I have treated her and she is recovering well. Just wanted to share what I did and hopefully it will help others. :)

She is back in the main coop. I'm surprised how fast she recovered from this. :)

Looks like you made a liter or a quart of water? Did you end up mixing it into a full gallon jug?

My hen had this and recovered after drainage and antibiotics from the vet. I believe she has this again though 😞 so now I will try to drain myself but wondering if you need antibiotics every time? Also, were the others mean to your hen after reintroducing? Mine were fighting like roosters 😑

Is separation just for insuring that she is the one who gets the water or is it because the condition is contagious? I only have 2 hens and no other space to house one so I'm wondering if the antibiotic would negatively affect the hen who is well if I keep them together.

is that amoxicillin? If not would it also be 250 mg of amoxicillin to a gallon of water?

My hen has this I am pretty sure she layed a broken shell so I know there is stuff inside her. She has had yellow around her vent today as well as watery poop with the yellow. Can human medicine work for this ? I’m 15 and I have school so during the day I’m going to be worried unless she is on medicine:( I wanna make a vet appointment but idk if I can have anyone take me :( the hen is inside rn in a dog kennel.

It came out broken on Wednesday. She acted better Friday so I let her go outside and today she seemed puffed up again

Has anyone tried to treat with amoxicillin??? Help please. Would you recommend amoxicillin for 5 or ten days? I understand when you treat with antibiotics you can’t consume their eggs

It was all my area had available. We were even out of fish mox. I asked my friend who is a reptile and bird vet if I could use this. He said yes but it’s really hard to know how much since a chicken is so small. Plus it has more things in it then just what I needed. I just used a little. This hen healed up quickly so thankfully I did need to do this for long. Definitely not my first choice. The hen healer was the most important part not sure she really needed anything else.

Yes, you will see egg yolk in their poop.
