Her making a big deal about tampons in all of the bathrooms sounds exactly like some conservative guys I grew up around. Clearly this is mostly about them being transphobic, but I would bet they're also pissed about knowing the bodily functions of the other half of the population. They're probably terrified and grossed out by a tampon in a wrapper because anything related to a period is a don't ask/don't tell situation. They act like it's the same thing as poop, but the products themselves are also disgusting even before it's used if that makes sense. When my mom got remarried I was assertive about not hiding period talk with my mom. Her husband would be disgusted at the slightest mention of pads or symptoms I had that I wanted to talk about with a parent to see if they were normal. Eventually he learned to just leave the damn room if he can't handle it because I'm not shutting up to make him comfortable lol.

once when i was like 16 my dad was going to the store and i asked him to pick up some pads for me since i had run out that morning, and my periods were irregular so i never new when i would need more. he said no and i was like “,,,, seriously?” i had to BEG that man to get me pads, he went to the store and didn’t bring any. said “oh i thought you were joking.” ??? ended up having to free bleed for a while as my mom did grocery delivery to the house for the menstrual products. all this to say so many people are disgusted by people bleeding when if i asked for bandaids or toilet paper he wouldn’t have given me a single issue. it’s especially sad and infuriating when people who have experienced periods don’t want others to have access to things necessary.
