It's mid Autumn here at the moment with crisp, clear mornings - perfect for a vlog style video to show you all the morning chores and check out the beauty of the farm and surrounds in the lovely morning sunshine.
We visit the chickens, ducks, and sheep. The cows come to visit me - not quite the usual morning start so I show you what I usually do to get them back in an area of my choosing - not theirs!
00:00 Morning farm chores include feeding chickens and cows.
04:08 Morning routine includes hay, fence splitting tasks.
08:49 Accepting animals' antics and embracing nature's influence.
11:28 Balancing animal grazing for optimal pasture management.
13:25 Managing the animals in one go.
17:35 Feeding and watering animals on the farm.
20:10 Dry weather, ducks enjoy near-empty dam.
If you enjoy my content consider a donation. It will help me diversify my plantings in the food forest and through out my gardens. Thank you!! Link below.

Thank you Rick - I will be enjoying the day with my two sons. Other members of the family ( cows, sheep and alpacas) have wished me well for the day by staying in their fencing overnight for an easy move this morning - can't ask for more than that!! 😆

Hi Linda, grazing your stock. Tighten your cattle into a smaller area and make sure your fence is real hot but move daily. Followed by the sheep for a little longer. They will eat all the grass as long as they are tight enough. You’ll see huge improvement in your pasture.😊

Hi Michael - thanks for your thoughts. I have had them in small areas with a fairly hot fence (it does happen at times haha) but I find they eat sections down to nothing and still leave the areas as seen in the video. Really not great for those sections to be eaten down bare. In your experience with cows how do you avoid that? Oh and I do move them daily and have done so since getting the cows, (except for one or two days when the energy escaped me!!)

It looks beautiful in the morning light in Autumn there . I love watching others di the routines. You are so calm about escaping animals and the possibility of eaten trees! Haha . I always got so frustrated by escaping cows, sheep, pigs and poultry that although we've improved our ground covers here , I'm procrastinating getting sheep on them. We'll have to rebuy all our electric fences too . We had one get hit by lightning then our other one had issues, which I'm pretty sure our pig caused 😉 so we ate one and left the other behind. 🙃 Thanks for sharing lovely ❤❤😂

I used to not be calm when the animals escaped but I have learned that it takes so much longer to get them in. Training them to a bucket works a treat. You can't do much about what they eat when they are out. Also learnt that if the tree is important to me then I should protect it rather than get worked up when they go to eat it (may need to fence those olive trees better 🤔. Sheep are great and mostly stay in the fencing (except for those 2 little ones). Worth rebuying the fencing required! Thanks for watching 😊

I'm a bit late to this video because i headed to Perth for a disappointing garden show 😂. I hope you had a great Mother's Day, Linda. It's so good to see the beasties. Spothead didn't look the least bit concerned about her actions, time to cool her down 😂

Thats a shame it was disappointing!! I did have a good Mothers Day with my two sons - thank you. Spothead is a bit cheeky but she is fattening up nicely and I'll love her in the end - know what I mean!?😋

The beautiful autumnal light! Like liquid gold poured over the landscape. Is that frost on the paddock grasses or just morning dew?

The golden light is beautiful at this time of year. Just dew on the grass that morning although felt cold enough for frost!

I've been hoping you'd show us more of your electric fence system, both good and bad! How many fence rolls do you have? It's quite a job having to set them out every day, and you must have several to allow you to leapfrog them like that. Everything is looking beautifully green there. Tassie has been desperately dry, no relief in sight after 7 months with very little rain. No hay to buy. A small bale of lucerne goes for $30, and winter hasn't begun yet.

Hi Ruby - I have 9 50m fences. One of them was damaged and now is in half which is actually really handy to have some shorter fences. It's good to have plenty as it means I can set up a few days at a time if I need to. Always good to have some spare to round up cows or sheep quickly if there has been an escape! It takes half and hour to an hour each day but I don't find that's an issue - I enjoy being out there with all the animals - gives you plenty of time to observe and see how they are all going - and they get to know you too. We had quite a wet April which helped green everything up and there is plenty of hay around which is a relief. Quite surprised to hear you are still dry - would have thought you'd be much the same as here. Have a great week!!

@@huttonsvalleypermaculture I know!! Tasmania is an island surrounded by water, but very little has fallen on us since October! But I've often flown across a brown, barren Victoria, when it was green at home. We all have our turns at abundance and dearth.
