@@VincentGargiulo Were you road-dogging it also? Man, it’s soul crushing when explaining indie touring/the road to folks who have a preconceived notion about what they think it’s like. From 2008-2010 we were showcasing on both coasts, usually heading out for 40 days per cycle. We had showcases set up with labels via management, but would always play 7 shows on the way out west (from Columbus, OH) in 7 days, do showcases and west coast shows for 10-14 days, then play our way back home. At the time (2008) gas hit a record $4.25 here at home, so by the time we hit Chicago, it was brutal. We would average 13k miles (van/trailer), 10 mi per gallon, so at the start of tour gas funds were around $3k for the tour. When doing all original music there’s NO real pay, so we packed food and slept in the van 95% of the time. When shows canceled we’d search out an open mic or literally walk the colleges and try to hustle merch. Gas station sinks, baby wipes, Fabreeze, duct tape. That’s pretty much the tool kit 🤣🤣. I’m still writing/recording/performing original music (along with a day job and a cover band), landing an indie deal a few months back and hoping to do some touring next year. Thanks for making me simultaneously smile remembering those past years, while also cringing at some of the scenes that were all to true to life 🤣 All the best! Cheers!
