So many sitcoms were based on the premise that the husband character dislikes his wife/kids or at least barely tolerates them. I always enjoyed how devoted Gomez was to his children and loving he was to his wife.

Best thing it was a role reverse for men and women! Instead of Mortisa being "lost" with out her children - it was Gomez! He was against having the children leave not Mortisa! Mortisa wanted her daughter to play with other children! Excellent show!

Seeing the addams here and then in wednesday, i don't get why they are made so evil and scary in the new versions when these people are literally the sweetest people you'd ever meet. Sure they like dark stuff but they still treat thier guests with kindness
@Anonymous-wi6ig
@Anonymous-wi6ig 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that was the whole premise of the original sitcom, it was the juxtaposition of them being morbid but being healthy and happy and kind people. Nowadays because of the popularity of emo and goth subculture, they made them more edgy, especially Wednesday for some reason. It all started with the Addams Family movies from the 90s.
@Justaguythatcameby

16:32 This might sound controversial, but I refer this Wednesday compared to the later versions. The shows presents her “creepy” Addams side while keeping her innocence as a 8 year old child.
@Claire-tz8yl
@Claire-tz8yl Жыл бұрын
@@elijahlivingston9477 yeah this is my favourite version. They have a love for the occult and the dark but are passionate, kind and loving not only with their family but people in general. They believe they are normal and try to make others feel at home and are concerned about others. Even Wednesday in modern iterations doesn't really have her childish charm. I enjoy Addams family values but it doesn't have the same charm as this one and we'll probably never get anything similar again which is a shame.

This show emphasizes how looks can be deceiving. Families that seem so functional to the outside world tend to be the most destructive. Parents who seem “normal” to the outside world tend to neglect and abuse their children behind closed doors. The Addams parents are so loving and care about their kids regardless of them coming off “creepy”.

One of the best things about the Addams Family. "Why have children just to get rid of them." Really speaks of Gomez and how he utterly love his family (especially his kids), he wants to spend just about every single waking hour with his two kids, learn of their interests and encourage them to do better than ever. Could even see it when Wednesday and Pugsley were getting dragged off by the teacher, Gomez almost couldn't bear the thought of his kids leaving him.

I think part of why he doesn't want the kids away from him is because he can't protect them from being socially outcast or discriminated against by the outside world. Because the Addamses are incredibly sweet and open hearted and generous, but they know the world outside hasn't always been kind to them in return.

When I was growing up and saw the Addams family for the first time I realized they made more sense than any of the other family television shows. The other television shows made me nervous. Adams family always seem to be so relaxing.

One of my all-time favorite lines from a different episode is where there’s a guest, as usual, talking with the Morticia in the doorway. Gomez comes in and he’s in shredded clothes with smudges everywhere in his hair all messed up and he says something like “getting closer!”. And exits. Then Morticia turns to the guest and says: Gomez has a theory - that if you keep using a smaller and smaller parachute. eventually you won’t need one!” I still love that line so much!

I love 60s TV series. Those have very short episodes but are able to tell a 1,5 hours of storyline in only 24 minutes. You don't get bored but also not get addicted to the whole series and have a need to watch a whole season in a day. Of course, as a 21st century person it is a different feeling to watch something shot 58 years ago, but little facts in this series are so satisfying to watch. The Addams Family is controversial and extraordinary in a creepy way, but mostly because the mother figure is more decicive and in charge of the control of her family, the father is very lovely and caring of his children, fulfilling the expectations of a 60s society when it comes to motherhood. The partners are so in love with each other and in a very healthy relationship. The children are also way more intelligent than their coevals and treated equally by their parents. Differences are understood and accepted by each family member and I feel like this show is quite much educating for the families who used to watch it on TV at its time.

The old lady on the board, Miss Comstock, was such a charming and memorable character actress. She played in many TV shows and movies. Most of us probably remember her best as Mrs. Cooper on the old Batman TV series.
