The Bible must be understood holistically, and it is easy to misunderstand Israels role when reading passages in isolation. I think he just need someone to guide him understand the scriptures - that there is only one chosen people, and that the Jews who rejected Christ was cut off from the nation of Israel, while those from the gentiles who accepted Christ, became members of Israel, so that there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile in Christ.
