Today’s feature has been called legends of one of the golden eras of hip hop. From the late 80s to early 90s hip hop had a sound that captivated a worldwide audience and laid a foundation for the genre and has lived on since then, even if in smaller peaks and valleys as time goes on. They released hip hop classic after classic, and were, even to this day heavily sampled by fellow hip hop artist like Biggie Smalls, Kanye West, even French Montana and Nick Minaj brought the dungeon dragons out in salute to the Lords. Biggie liked their classic Chief Rocker so much he sampled Mr Funky’s voice for his “Machine Gun Funk” track on his classic debut album that came out just a year later. The duo rappers rhymed flawlessly off one another on those boom bap sp1200, akai-s900, mpc60 made beats about their real life hood circumstances having to see poverty, violence and the drug epidemic play out right before their eyes. Together they made classics tracks in a short span, BET even naming them the best rap group in 1993. But like most groups they enjoyed a life span not long enough for their potential to really shine through when they were at their hottest. Over time their voice in music became faint, as most today struggle to remember their influence as personal goals separated these legends and like Nas in 2007 begs the question where are they now? What happened to the Chief rockers so important to the boom Bap Era? CHIEF ROCKERS: What Happened To Lords of The Underground? Stunted Growth Music

Thanks for the support but you have some things wrong, I started Lords of the Underground , my best friend in college (LA) was Marley Marls cousin and asked me to start a group when I went back to school in North Carolina. I met Denton Evans and he told me about Doitall and I found Mr Funke on campus so they weren’t looking for a Dj 😊 I was looking for MCs . Please get the history right, watch our Drink Champs and stay tuned for new music and tour dates in Europe. The Plain Dealer 2 out now haha

Lords of the Underground were what they were. Just like all Jersey MCs. They just that ceiling they never get past musically. LOTU represented that entire era. When you listen to that first album, it sounds like a time capsule. A time where everybting was simpler. I miss it

Ayo....That "Here Comes The Lord's" album was a monster on the streets back then. Now, the "Brick City Newark" produced some of Boom Baps dopest MCs such as "Redman", "The Artifacts", "Twin Hype", "Tha Outsidaz", "Rah Digga" & a few others. But what the "Lord's" brought to the game was dope lyrics, whitty metaphors, high energy stage performances & fly Marley Marl influenced beats to keep your head nodding. It just comes to show you if you keep true to your fans, what made them fan favorites & believe in themselves....even at 50 you still be relevant in their careers & still be considered rap legends. 🤔🎵🎧🤔🎵🎧🤔🎵

Testament to having fall back plans. Proud of these brothas. College GRADUATES not dropouts (Mr Funkee went back for his masters not a BA). That’s why they have real gigs as adults . Just wish they found the right indie distribution and kept the music coming. I played their debut to death in 93! Another funny fact is folks thought they were like a DAS EFX clone on their debut single “Pysho” because uñidos the similar underground video theme. But by the time Funky Child and Chief Rocka came out you knew they were their own wave! The production on that debut was epic

They had 2 iconic songs but that's it.... They didn't have the it factor to last... That style of rap was dying by 96... Hell Wu Tang faded out by 1998... Their best cd wasn't near Enter The 36, Brotha Lynch Hung, Domino, Snoop, 2Pac, Onyx, etc... They were on tier with a dying Run DMC, Paperboy, Erick Sermon, LL Cool J, all considered struggling with their 93 projects...💯💯💯
