I've watched so many great players fail on mediocre teams fail repeatedly. Marcus Allen, Derek Thomas, Andre Risen, Neil Smith, Priest Holmes, Toney Gonzalez, Dante Hall, the list goes on and on. I was converted from a 49er's fan to a Chiefs fan when Montana joined the KC. Everyone is seriously overlooking the Chiefs Defense, which is understandable. Mahomes and that offense looked amazing. Reid and Beinamy need to be praised for their offensive scheme. They finally showed us their true offense and it looks scary. Not to mention the score really should’ve been closer to 44-20. But the Defense, oh my. The Defense only allowed 13 points against a high flying Ravens team. 13 POINTS. That’s absolutely incredible. Not to mention there was a BS personal foul call against Hitchens that kept a TD drive alive for the Ravens. It would’ve been 4th down and a bunch. The LB’s finally were hitting their gaps, the DE’s were keeping contain (seen on the late sack) on Lamar, the interior of that DL lead by Chris Jones was potent and plugged up the middle, and the DB’s were quick and communicating well. The whole defense was incredible to watch. Credit that to Spags and his gameplan. That last drive the Ravens had where Spags sent a Tampa/Engage 8 blitz every down was spectacular. Spags isn’t playing around and it’s special to watch.

About time someone figured out how to stop Lamar Jackson. I've been sending D-coordinators this message for a year now. You defend a middle school offense with a middle school defense. Chiefs played a lot of 5-2 and 6-2 with stand up ends bottoming out a yard across line of scrimmage and cross-keying backs. Force Jackson to run between the tackles and pass outside the numbers. He simply sucks passing outside the numbers.

@@tannerkeck8855 He's a world class athlete. I'll give him that. But nothing he does isn't easily stoppable if you play the correct defense the correct way. As an NFL D-coordinator, you kinda have to forget everything you know and turn back the clock. You play gap control up front and D-line has to break down at O-lines, heels. Your D-ends have to play up right and also not get too much depth or bite on zone read fakes. It's counter to everything modern D-ends are taught as they want to get in the backfield for the sack. Ends have to slow play it and remember they always have contain. And defend passes by forcing him to throw outside of the numbers. These are all things I coach my middle school team and the two teams I've seen defend the Ravens with these techniques shut them down. Chiefs last night and Titans last year in the playoffs. Expect to see more of this from other teams.

What he does is play action well and throw straight up the seam to this tight ends, time and time again. I like his guts, but his best days are already behind him unless he can figure out to be a pocket passer with a quicker delivery. He will have to adjust to how teams will defend him. Or Harbaugh will have to figure out some different plays to take advantage of his skill set. But his days of running zone read options against a 4-3 defense are over.
