Yeah I’ve done it multiple time and used duct tape to fix it. It just has a warning saying you could break the insides and it’ll catch fire. So far hasn’t happened to me. Knock on wood 😂

how would a person place the heat pad on the side of the tank for a asian forest scorpion? i have a ten gallon tank with about 6 inches of "soil" above a 1 inch drainage layer of rock. Do i put it on the part of the tank that is above the ground level or below the ground level?

I bought recently a zoomed but I also got a thermostat (Giganterra day and night + timer) so I can control how much heat I have inside the enclosure. I have a question, can I use some ducktape and ignore the adhesive? Who knows, maybe in the future I will move to other terrarium or change the position of the heatmat and I like to think about the future, I saw one video where one guy was saying you can do that and he actually suggested it, I like second opinions, thanks 😀

Have you seen a heatmat crack the bottom glass? We had a Zoomed mat and when went to clean our enclosure (Exoterra) there were cracks running directly under the heat mat. The tank was cool at the time and I added some warm water to scrub it all down and felt the cracks. I'm not sure if it happened when I moved the tank or when the water hit the glass. Was it the water temp? A flaw in the glass? Was the glass compromised from the heat mat? Thanks for your input!

I have when moisture hits the glass and the heat mat is under it will cause those cracks.

Draw back with ZooMed mats is the size dictates the heat. So the small one is competely useless heat wise even with a nano size tank and the big one is too big for small tanks. Reptiles like to regulate their own temps, they do this by moving to and away from heat sources, so small but hot pads are ideal as they will heat a specific area only, allowing the reptile to move elsewhere if it needs to cool down. With a big mat the whole foor will be toasty thus the reptile will not have the ability to regulate itself, added to this there is usaly a basking lamp so all in all the poor thing will be flumoxed in a bad and possibly sick way. Smaller more poweful mats would be ideal but ZooMeds smallest is also the weakest which is not enough to heat properly. Not sure about the others in this regard.

Yes the small zoo med one is super weak. I actually don’t use heat mats I did for this video to show what it’s like. I only use overhead heating now. Back years ago I was a heat may user however

@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Yes, I only use them to grow palm seedlings. This time in a nano tank hoping for 80% humidity. The small Zoo Med same size as the tank side is hovering around 23 - 25%C which is entirely useless. Was hoping for 30%C at least. With the tortoises which are rather huge I just use a radiator or two. They get warm season sun for ten months a year outdoors so it's not that critical but I feed D3 just incase during the cool season. Would the small Zoo-Med mat work better without the thermostate I wonder? I set it to thirty which the mat never ever ever reaches but would direct power (no thermostate) improve its performance slightly I wonder? I don't think there is a possibility it would over heat? Any idea the max heat it would get.

@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Have you looked into industrial heat mats the kind used in auto industry and medical one for two examples? These are available and certainly work. You need to gather the components and DIY to fit the system together but it's no different in principle to the children's toys from ZooMed except they work and with as close to perfect precision as you want them to.

I had to buy the 20x30 cm for a 50x30x38, seller told me I will be fine with that one, I plan to put stick it in the side since it is for a Heterometrus but some people suggested to put it down so now I have a mess in my head, anyway I will do some test and since I got a thermostat I will that to make the best with what I have.

I wouldn't trust the cheap unit with the thermostat, maybe it won't malfunction, but I'd rather buy a reputable thermostat like a habistat one, instead of one that's integrated in that costs next to nothing.
