Because these units were given for free, can we expect a truly open and honest review? Thats my concern when everyone who is reviewing these units have been given them. 🤷♂

If I'd spent £400+ on something like this, I'd expect it to be perfect and last for many years. My concern with this brand is they will disappear in a years time meaning we'd be left with a unit that can't be upgraded so won't work with newer phones.

We get asked this question all the time. We have turned down so many bits of equipment that the producers have asked us for a ‘positive’ review. We only give honest reviews good or bad and we don’t let the producers see the video before it goes out. On equipment we have been given and that can be passed on we do so at our RiderCamTV ride out. Last year we gave away over £3k in equipment at the end of the ride in our raffle. We are sick of KZbinrs who bend to their (manufacture’s) will…

In your intial video introducing this system you made a passing comment along the lines of 'this won't have random disconnects like other CarPlay systems'. You've previously reviewed the Ottocast unit, giving it a glowing review but is the Ottocast one of those units where you experienced random disconnects? I absolutely love tech like this but it needs to work evertime otherwise it's an expesive frustration that I end up not using.
@RiderCamTV10 ай бұрын
Ottocast was good and didn’t have disconnects and worked well but this system has it all and is much faster and connects every time. I’ve used it for a month daily and it’s worked flawlessly. The best bit is that the headset connects to the phone and phone to the unit itself, while the ottocast connected to both at the same time so more to go wrong I guess

I took mine out for the first time today. The thing that I am not liking so far is the turn signal cancellation switch being used as a selector switch. Whenever you use your turn signal and need to cancel, you end up initiating something else when you push the cancellation button. Depending on what item was highlighted in the menu, sometimes it would stop or skip a song or initiate some kind of Apple CarPlay app that was highlighted. They need to change that.
@RiderCamTV10 ай бұрын
That’s odd. I’ll keep an eye on that but I haven’t had any issue at all so far, but I am mostly on the nav screen when riding.
@4x15mph10 ай бұрын
Only downside that I can think of is that your phone is now in your pocket, not charging, and being drained by the connection (airplay, music, etc) to the Chigee unit. Do you charge your phone while it is in your jacket? Otherwise, when you get to your destination, your all important phone is not fully charged.... I guess you could keep the phone on the bars and charge it at the same time but that sort of defeats the purpose of carplay and protecting your phone.
@RiderCamTV10 ай бұрын
I thought the same but haven’t really noticed a huge drain on battery at all to be honest. Have been testing it for over a month now and this hasn’t changed. If I’m on your my battery sometimes drains a little and then I make sure all apps like the camera is totally shut down so it limits the amount of drain when riding, although I have always got an external battery with me or a lead to plug in and charge the phone.

They are selling it at three time the original Price, they should reduce the price of it, to be fair. I already saw the original ones sold on Aliexpress and will be defenetly buying it from there, even if is double the price on Amazon, I would get it even there, but the price of the Chigee is to much. Also, i'm sure that the cameras used on you previous setup might be even compatible with the Chigee connectors. I also wante to install on my bike the Auxiliary battery that are use on casr for the night mode, so you are sure not to drain your battery at nigt, but still not sure this systems have a Nightmode and sensors that detect motions.

@@RiderCamTV The problem is that they didn't copy, like a lot of products they are Found in China, but then outsiders want to make money out of it. It is happening more often in our days. Also Chinese cars are sold at higher value in Europe, or Android head units. Like Tom Tom and Garmins, if they came up with this solution it would cost thousands. Chigee can aslo sell it double the price if they give assistance and make it available also in amazon, but 3 - 4 times more, now you are exaggerating! There are also model where you can also hot swap the screen, with one connector instead of having the 3 cables.
