Love how absolutely honest & resolved Arata is here. There was no hesitation in his proposal (yes proposal, not confession. See Chihaya's pov in 3x23) Boy went for it the second he realized he loves her, not a moment wasted. And did you see the sheer RESPECT he has for Chihaya to bow down as he delivered the final sentence? This is so rare, especially in anime set in high school. Hands down one of the best proposals in anime ever.

Yes! Respect, something so many people overlook. Arata is very respectful towards Chihaya. I was in an abusive relationship and the guy told me straightforwardly that he did not respect me while he treated me badly. That is when I learned that respect is VERY important in every relationship (platonic and romantic). If you don't have respect, then the person would treat you however they feel like from using you, to verbal abuse, to being inconsiderate, etc. Another thing I noticed is that Arata openly compliments and praises Chihaya to her face, even for something we would think insignificant. For example, the first time she played karuta and managed to grab only one card, he enthusiastically praised her. Then later when she played with her left hand, again he praised her. It's his respect for her. It shows a healthy relationship with positivity. Chihaya always feels so happy with these compliments. I would, too.

the instant arata asked “what would you have done, chihaya?” i knew he loved her. arata would only sincerely ask that to people he admired in karuta (which are few), and i was so impressed that he viewed her that way. similarly, chihaya’s serious answer to him was like athlete to athlete, pro to pro, talking about karuta playing styles, but to see them wholly acknowledge each other like that (speaking prophetically of the manga now) convinced me so much of their love for each other. then his confession right after that, “i love you, chihaya,” followed by a deep bow and a humble “taichi May have told you, but i want to move to tokyo for college. if you want, we can play karuta together” was straight up just the perfect proposal (as mirrored by what chihaya recollects of it later). for the most part of watching the anime i was neutral on the taichi/chihaya/arata love triangle, more curious on how skillfully the author would resolve it. and they absolutely delivered on that end, imo. S2 ended with chihaya admitting her feelings to herself (“for the rest of my life, i’ll always love karuta, and i’ll always love arata”) and arata’s S3 confession proves just how much that love and respect runs both ways. the author is telling us they’re practically made for each other, and the best thing for me is yes, i genuinely believe that. well done!

Yes! They love each other but more than that they respect each other and Karuta. That's what binds them tightly in a closed bond that Taichi's determined love couldn't break! It's so precious... these moments that we experience in anime. They shape us so much.

i love what the writers wanted to show to young girls or women with this story, honestly. it’s showing the difference between a man who truly respects you vs. a man who wants to possess you. imo, taichi just wanted to possess chihaya. he did mature and he’s finding himself away from her, but i really think women need to look for men like arata. the ones with no hesitation with their feelings and who show you respect. and this is the same for guys too btw, your partner should always respect you and always be open about their feelings and communicate it clearly! no beating around the bush. that’s what builds love to its strongest point.

Since chihaya is the protagonist of the story, we see alot of Taichi's perspective on his feelings towards chihaya but very little of Arata is shown, but we forget that chihaya was the first friend Arata made in Tokyo, and their short memory kept Arata hopeful towards karuta, plus Arata is so respectful towards chihaya, honestly this scene just shows how sincere he is. Plus he never once blamed chihaya for not answering instantly, which I think was a fatal mistake on Taichi's end. I think both Arata and Taichi are admirable in their own respective ways, but there are only so many people that Arata will find who love karuta as much as him. Taichi will have a successful career as a doctor and will one day eventually move on to someone pretty too.

See Arata is daring. I hate it when I see Taichi ships hate on Arata and saying he “stole” Chihaya because in reality Taichi had MUCH more time and opportunity to confess to Chihaya but only decided to do it after hearing that Arata confessed. Taichi is a very good man but if you want your crush to get love struck, you gotta be the first to confess because second time is always not that impactful.

One of the most shocking confessions for me, the show was in a consistent "will they won't they" space and I thought the romance would never go anywhere, the courage to actually face to up to that challenge and be genuine and move forward with more than just the sports drama shows me how talented the mangaka is. It's realistic, people get together. That just happens. Maybe I should have seen the potential in the series from episode 1 but it truly is one of my all time favorites. It's a masterpiece.

I don't think Taichi should be so upset for so long...The guy could get another girlfriend in 5 mins lol I mean he has so much going for him. Just got back here cuz I learned Chihaya chose Taichi in the final chapter T_T we lost you guys.. i dislike this author now for leading us on for so long. and it's became Taichi show not Chihaya 😭not about the game.. but about Taichi. Let me tell something, in 2016 i wanted to watch this anime, but before i watch any anime i research a little bit, back then I like Arata character and I didn't watch this at all because female lead don't choose him. Fast forward now in 2024 I'm again decided to watch this anime and already forgot who choose who, ( but as I watching this I thought this girl choose arata and maybe backthen I liked that other friend, and I feel as a adult my choice is changed) after finding it out that my preference was never change , and I find other boy Annoying - so I'm again quitting it for good 😂 and it's my own opinion.
