OUR FAMILY IS HEARTBROKEN AFTER THE LOSS OF OUR SWEET BEARDED DRAGON RYUU ... Ryuu came to us as an adorable baby dragon more than 7 1/2 years ago and he changed my opinion of having reptiles as pets. He was just so sweet and gentle. A few years later we adopted an orphaned kitten and the two pets were NOT the best of friends, so there wasn't much interaction ... BUT ... when we adopted a sweet tiny 1 1/2 lb female Chihuahua our dragon seemed to adore her. They loved to play together and looked forward to their games of tag, but as Ryuu aged he slowed down and played less. After months of showing his age we noticed that he wasn't eating much (even though we changed his diet and daily needs as advised by the vet). Sadly, our little video star passed away 2 nights ago and we are all missing him terribly. He has been the most amazing member of our family. We would like to thank all the subscribers, viewers and those who post kind comments on this video because this is one of the best memories that we have to remind us how much fun he was and we hope that he will live on as new members view this video. Our Beardie never goes black with our Chihuahua ... they are such good friends ... The beardie loves her and she loves him. I have no idea why they like to play so much, but they both seem to want to be together a lot. She never bites or growls at him ... she just talks to him and he never bites at her. It's a strange and wonderful love affair ... LOL!!

I literally just got my beardie today after much preparation - he's 8 weeks old and sleeping in his viv as I type this - and I find it really interesting when I find documented play behaviour like this in non-mammals. The beardie's tail is up when he runs, and his head is alert, but he's clearly not stressed or angry because his namesake beard would be puffed and dark. Thankyou for recording this for posterity!

They seriously love to play together ... I love to watch them. Our Chihuahua never tries to hurt the dragon, she really loves to chase him and our dragon gets excited whenever she comes into the room because he thinks it's time to play. They make us laugh all the time. :)

Joe Krenzelok They just enjoy playing together. Our Dragon seems to really like our Chihuahua and he wants to play with her often. He is an amazing dragon and has never been aggressive with our dog and our dog has never been aggressive with our dragon either. She even protects him from our cat.

Your beardie is amazing! So playful and gentle. Adorable puppy as well. I own a bearded dragon (and I've had one before him) and for a chill as they are, I have never seen them interact with my dogs like this. Our beardie doesn't like our cat, so we don't let them play together. He will play with the cat if the dog is around because he really likes our dog. I don't know why they like each other so much but maybe it has something to do with the fact that our dog is a girl and he is a boy. Our cat is a boy too, so maybe that's why they don't like to play together the way these two do.

Meo Madeley Lizards have a natural tendency to fear felines of any kind. Saw that on a nature documentary years ago, so, if any new research has come about, then maybe take that tentatively. But it makes sense since cats hunt anything they can over power. Even though domestic house cats are very unlikely to hurt pet lizards. It was always a hit or miss whether my lizards liked cats. Playful cats have intimidated my beardies, in my experience, whereas my mellow lazy cats didn't seem to incite any fear or dislike in the lizards. However, they never seemed to have issues with dogs at any point. I'm just really impressed that your beardie plays! So cute. ^_^ Great video!

I didn't know that about lizards ... thank you for letting me know. The funny thing is that the dragon does not seem to be intimated by our cat at all ... he actually scares the cat which is kind of funny, but we don't want to stress either of them out so we don't push it on them. We like our pets to be happy and feel safe at all times. We do have a couple of videos of the dragon and the cat sort of playing together and it is only when the beardie goes black that we stop them from playing ... now he is older and doesn't want to be around the cat so we don't put them together.

Meo Madeley Oh yeah, no problem! I agree, you just know when it's best to keep animals separate. I keep mine away from the cat I have now. He used to puff up and scare her too, but it sorta just got to the point where he was not happy being near her at all. It's good your lizard does have a fun playmate! If you actually take the time and raise it/tame it you will love it! Mine is 4 years old will chase my dog and cat around the house but never bit me. They love to take hot baths and mine loves to swim.

Trust me there one of the best pets i own! If you don't want a "nasty" beardie get one from a good trust worthy breader. Go to a reptile expo to find some. Beardies are super chill and will not bite you unless of coarse he accidentlly bites you when hand feeding. You should definently get one

I agree with Dino, David & Jr ... if you treat your beardie well and give him/her a lot of love and attention he/she will give the same back ... they are very relaxed and they have a easy way of showing you that they are not happy. If their chin turns black and they open their mouth wide you may want to find a way to calm them down so they don't feel threatened.

Both my gentlemen (my dragon and dog) have past on, but whenever Bandit was out and Leon's on the bed, Leon would go to my dog and both would just chill and nap together or Bandit would be on my lap and Leon would climb down my chest and rested with Bandit. Thank you ... bearded dragons don't have a bad smell ... they are incredible pets, very relaxed and sweet. We just clean his tank as soon as he makes a mess and we don't keep dead crickets in there ... that way there are no bad smells. You will love having a beardie!! :)

I am sure that your little dragon is extremely thankful for you taking her to a forever home. The dragon we had before Ryuu was a rescue ... his name was Godzilla and he couldn't move either of his back legs when we first got him ... he was 8 years old when he came to our home ... With increased calcium and tons of love and attention he gained back the use of his legs and then melted my heart because he was so gentle and sweet. I would never have know how wonderful bearded dragons were if it wasn't for Godzilla and his need for a good home ... now I can't live without them. I'm sure you feel the same way. Rescues are incredibly loving!! :) :)

well they normally cost about $50-60 at petco/petsmart, and about the salmonella thing, it is extremely rare to catch salmonella from them.

Thank you ... Our little pup is full Chihuahua. Her dad is an apple head and her mom is a deer head. She loves to play with our bearded dragon and gets excited when we go to our son's room to bring him out.
