To all the other people who own reptiles: shh... let them pretend. Actually in a way it is cuddling, I know from my own experience that bearded dragons LOVE fluffy things and are generally a quite active and happy pet. Most reptiles can live contently in their enclosure all their life and actually holding them too much can be stressful. However, it’s like the bearded dragon didn’t get the memo. They really do benefit from handling and act more like a bird then most lizards, I own one and she’s my baby. I initially wanted a snake instead because I struggle with anxiety and depression and I want a pet that won’t suffer when I won’t give them time because I can barely even take care of myself but I still need that interaction with an animal because I’m an introvert who needs that. Instead because of Covid my plans changed and I got Ali instead. She really is like this, always inquisitive, and for the record days where I can’t find time for her are very rare, and often her care gets me going on bad days, but she’s always there.

@Tiff Bannen The iguanas in Costa Rica are protected, so I can see why they have no fear of humans, since I find them to be the smartest of the reptile species. Most people say the monitor lizard is the smartest of the lizards, even scientist's, which I disagree. Having had both species I have found some iguanas like the Cayman Brac to out perform any reptile thats been in my collection. Of course we dont know the exact intelligence yet, but so far the Cayman Brac for me has done more stunts with voice commands then any reptile ever in my collection. I love the way you interact with Mochi; you realize that he is another soul on this planet, not just an animal, or a thing. That is the true way to treat your companion “animals”. You haven’t really trained him, you have made him understand you and he is honoring your requests. I appreciate the thought here but lizard brains are fundamentally different from ours. Those differences mean they literally cant even comprehend basic social interaction. They aren't even self aware, which you can see by the way he bobs (Beardie aggressive display) at his own reflection, thinking it is another male. If the inability to process basic things such as self awareness, you should be able to understand how such a complex concept as love can't even exist in that same brain. Animals are not people. Stop humanizing them. This can be dangerous, misinformative, and especially in regards to reptiles, usually leads to inadvertent neglect borne from simple ignorance. Just make sure they have their needs met. And pray they never grow larger than you, because they would literally eat you without a second thought, as just like birds they determine prey by "Can this fit?"

This is honestly nothing special. I own 2 beardies myself and have a group of beardie owning friends. It’s really not hard to get them to come to you or walk them on a leash. I taught both of mine to come without trying to. Not to mention that blueberry was hidden next to that blue fabric so I’m not impressed.

I can second this. Even though snakes necessarily can't feel affection (or so they say), they do get comfortable with their care takers. I have 4 snakes and a leo. My second snake was a male normal 50% het clown I rescued. He was slightly underweight, he was very dehydrated, he had stuck shed covering a lot of his body, and he had rat wounds. At first he was highly skittish, and was extremely head shy. This was back in Feburary when I got him. Now, after a lot of time, love and care, he doesn't shy away from me, and he let's me stroke his head without freaking out, just like my first ball python (a female fire pos. dinker morph) that I have had since she was about 2 months. He has fattened up like he needed to, he is no longer dehydrated (it's sad, when I got him his eye caps were severely wrinkled), and his wounds have just about healed up! Now he is just a big spoiled brat that seeks attention like his sister lol.
