Chikn Nuggit: Taking the Fun Away from the Story

Honestly, i hated how quickly the story finished. I love Chikn Nuggit so much, but i wish the drama and plot twists could've been longer, i can see how much they'd planned this and the way it was suddenly let down annoyed me. Also, the lore is still going on and theres probably going to be more drama, but i don't know if im up for it now considering how quickly it ended

i agree so much!!! i found chikin nuggit very cringey but i liked the characters (and ships, lol) and when the demigod story started to become a main plot, i started to like the story but it went right back to the normal story i lost interest again.

The change up wasn’t exactly random. It was always implied from what I know, it was a slow build up to the eventual change in story line. I was paying attention to it from the start, I knew something was going on behind the scenes.

Ok let me say my quick two cents really quick: Stories are allowed to go from silly to serious if they feel like the story they started needs to cover those topics. Yes, the twist is unfitting for the brand of the characters, but there was buildup, foreshadowing and Kyra (creator of Chikin) has done a concept for a show of a similar nature called Fuwa Fuwa Foof (cute cartoon animals deal with hard subject matter (murder and violence in Fuwa's case, Depression, identity and miscommunication as with Chikin.)) Two, "lore" and a grandiose story has become a way for content creators, especially with shorts, to keep people coming back and it's good from a business standpoint. Maybe there was a push from Buzzfeed to do something like this, and that reflects on the quality of the art because of the deadline.

i honestly really love Chikin Nuggit’s shorts and story, just because it has it in a silly way but shows really impactful and heartwarming ones, like where Chikin would talk to the audience about staying happy and just not stress too much or Hawt Sauce trying his best to change and not be rude like he was before. i do agree with how rushed the whole “demigod” story was but it still showed a way that kinda sends a message to the audience about how someone might feel whenever they feel left out and how vulnerable they’ll be when they hang out with the wrong person/group. It also even shows on how stressed out Chikin was when he realized that he can basically control on what they think, do or act and him passing his powers onto them. that’s honestly my two cents but great video and art!! :]

But the thing is, when Chikn lost it, he basically did the same level of weird stuff as he had done before this time his friends and the other characters were afraid for some reason? That didn’t make sense to me.

I think they all became afraid because they realized there's a possibility that Chikin could harm them if he got careless with his powers, but that's just me.

i disagree with almost everything in this video ngl, this story was never meant to be perfect, yes it was rushed but if youve been following the story theyve been hinting at this for a long time, also you got alot of facts wrong, like chikn didnt create the world? he only accidentally gave his friends powers bc he was unaware he was a god. also him reacting to chee being distant makes sense, because he lost a friend before, and it was supposed to be solved with a simple conversation, it was supposed to be a miscommunication, that was like the entire point. -__-

I think the buildup was really well done, but it wrapped up way too quickly. Literally one episode was just Chee talking to Chikin (which is also something I have a problem with, it should’ve been ALL of his friends), and he settled down super quick. And then another thing, they made it about Chee spending more time with Cofi, when it should’ve been about Chikin struggling with who he is. I get Chikin and Chee were supposed to be close, but they didn’t feel super close at that point in the story. They felt like they were ok not spending every second with each other, so for it to suddenly bother Chikin so much was odd.

People please remember this (especially if you wanna be a writer), just because you know that you want to make a story that progressively gets darker does NOT mean that it will be good. If it's all extremely silly from the start like this, it's gonna be jarring. Find a balance between comedy and lore, and SLOWLY let it build up. PS: The show being only shorts also made it more difficult to take it seriously.

I feel like the plotline was built up (at least subtly) from the beginning, and because it was always kinda implied there was something deeper, I don't think the tone shift or lore in of itself was a problem. I do, however, feel like the demigod plotline was resolved too quickly and easily to have a real impact.

Hi. Long time Chikn Nuggit fan. Just wanna say some of my thoughts on Chikn’s character arc. 1. While he definitely felt like his friends were moving away from him, and how Sody pop felt betrayed, I can’t help but think that the entire arc boiled down to just Chikn’s “incel arc”. I apologize if I dumbed it down, but it always amused me with that direction. 2. Although the creator stated that she didn’t want any kind of violent conflict with the arc, I felt like that was its main issue. Yeah, the world around them was falling apart, but there was no sense of “danger” in my opinion. Like, imagine if Capcom revived Gill for Street Fighter 7, hyping him up as the true villain of the series once again, only for him to be a weak boss character, and barely showing off what he’s capable. I mean, Chikn did create a sort of a false reality for Chee, but that was about it for something “serious”.

Honestly I think the lore was done well expecually considering who's working on it. The person/people working on Chikn Nuggit aren't exactly professional writers so I didn't expect it to be perfect but I liked what we got. I think what ppl don't realize is that this actually isn't something random, it's been hinted many times sense the start and I actually had a theory that Chikn was a God (my friends made fun of me and called me MatPat lol) It's obvious that Chikn has always had powers and they were questioned in the episodes. It's not something that came "out of nowhere", it was actually planned out from the start. That being said...I feel like it rushed Bezel's character. Ever sense Bezel was introduced that's when the lore started to grow at a way faster pase. That's why I think so many ppl were confused abt it or thought it was out of random. You know, anyone remember Capri Sun's respect the pouch campaign from the late 2000's to early 2010's with their former mascots known as the Disrespectoids? Since Chikn Nuggit is a food based media that is becoming one of these things that starts off silly and episodic to more deep and serialized, I can imagine that if Capri Sun got a full series based on their Disrespectoids characters, it would also go from silly and episodic to deep and serialized, especially once it reaches to it's final Season that would be based on the events of the Legend of The Golden Pouch web game.

I loved the story i love the twists and it was very well done. It actually gave a lot of dept to the characters in a fantastical way. And finallyy the only trouble i had was the ending, but they kind of fixed it.

There was definitely something going on from a good bit of the start so it didn't really feel like it was out of nowhere, though personally I didn't care for what it turned out to be. I found it disinteresting and honestly just overall wasn't my cup of tea, but I think it's good people were able to enjoy it though it does suck for those that liked it and wanted it to continue a bit longer. I honestly didn't understand Chikn's whole wanting to take over the world, but I just kind of ignored it.

I was recommended this video by a friend and I'm glad your opinions aligned well with how I felt about the story. If a buildup of demigod lore was absolutely needed for their world, then I think Chikn Nuggit as a whole would've benefitted from longer screen time per episode. Not as shorts, but as actual video by video on the platform. Chopping everything up then scattering information across shorts only confused viewers because of lackluster storytelling involved. Plus, after the demigod arc, they could've improved the silly antics by Chikn Nuggit messing around as a demigod now, free to express himself and keep his friends closer than ever.

i used to keep up with chikin uploads but i started to stray away from it when bezel came around, not for any particular reason (however he does feel a little out of place), so i hadnt rlly sticked around to watch it go down bc i had a feeling it wouldnt feel right. i did see the occassional short here and there but out of context. when the final part of the story came out however, it felt like. "wow that was kinda quick." it felt like there was a lot of buildup for something. like that idk. ive loved these videos so far, but i have a question are you moving away from aj content? ill still stick around if so but im just asking for clarification

I remember when this series first came out. It took me a while to realize it was made by the same person who made Fuwa fuwa foof, which was literally part of my childhood. I've been watching this creator for years since I was like 8, patiently waiting for them to come back. And they were behind this series that I have been watching for a while all along. I stopped watching this series around the time when the clock guy appeared. I noticed there was some hints to something being up with Chikin. And for some reason I stopped before it got to the actual story. There was no particular reason for it. But I will admit the sudden shift in story kinda put me off to. Not bad, just kinda off putting.

I remember being really into Chikn Nuggit when it was still new. I loved the combination of nonsensical humor with queer themes. A lot of the time, nonsensical comedies either don't have any queer representation or are hostile towards queer themes. Not only that, but queer-positive cartoons often take themselves very seriously and focus a lot on trauma, which isn't a bad thing, but it just felt like a breath of fresh air to have a queer cartoon that focused heavily on queer humor and nonsensical mayhem. However, after the demigod arc started and the show became more "lore-based," it just started getting stale (pun definitely intended). I was disappointed on how gags in previous shorts (e.g. Sody exploding) had to be "explained" as the work of Chikn's powers. The entire arc was simultaneously taken too seriously, yet not taken seriously at the same time. Judging from the suspenseful music in the "lore" shorts, I had a feeling that something absolutely horrible was about to happen, like a character dying or someone getting traumatized for life. All of the buildup led to an ending that felt like a huge nothing-burger (another intended pun). I wouldn't be surprised if the whole ordeal is retconned in the future. I also found Bezel incredibly annoying and insufferable (no offense to his VA, btw. I love Kellen Goff!).

I agree how fast paced it was although the main reason why he became a demigod is because of Bezel. He manipulatived Chikn to maje him think that his friends didn't care about him which made him distrustful to his friends,successfully manipulated his friends to forget him so Chikn's suspensions were true lastly Chikn has abandonment issues and he's gone through this traumatic event before because once upon a time has had a friend and that friend just abandoned him and he's still upset about it. My theory is that his parents one mortal dog and one a god. He was raised by his father the most powerful being and his father was emotionally abusive and strict.(His parents relationship was forbidden love because a relationship between a mortal and god and Chikn's father decided to cut the relationship off between his girlfriend or wife to not get criticized) so Chikn lived with his father for all his life(his mother died by then since she's not immortal) until he didn't want to rule the world like his dad did so they got into a fight and his dad disowned him and Chikn got so angry that he wanted to destroy his father's kingdom(his father wanted to like enslaved the mortals meanwhile Chikn didn't) Chikn lost the battle and fell down to earth and remain unconscious for like a million years never to be found until a dog came.

If you look back Chikin being a demigod is no random change at all. It's hinted at multiple times in subtle ways and it was built up . Was the plot point rushed? Yes it feels that way but it's just meant to be simple and easy to follow. I don't think the creator was going for anything too complex and I think the plot is fine as it is because it keeps you hooked .(I can see the issues in some parts of the plot like Chikin wanting to change the world and Chikin not communicating but I think he didn't feel like he could communicate or was afraid to )while I do disagree with most of the video ,I respect your opinion though

There’s a raunchy ass sex joke implication, in one of the episodes (fries in shake), a yaoi mention, and the topics are definitely a bit more mature than the sub 9 demographic implies (at least, more applicable to older ages: Loneliness, Relationships, The value of friendships AND relationships. It’s not that it’s for 9 year olds, it just doesn’t get into incredibly dark territory all the time or use swears. Not everything bright, cute and colorful is just for toddlers to enjoy.

Hello! I mean this with absolutely no disrespect, but I think you would heavily benefit from focusing on sketching your lines to completion instead of inching them out bit by bit. I’ve noticed from your speed paints that you etch out every shape with many lines and that’s very, very time consuming. This is commonly called “chicken scratch” and I (and every other artist ever) has done this, so there’s no shame in it. I wish you all the best with your art!
