A good example video for players emulating ZAS to see why they should be sure to enable 'interframe blending' in Gambatte. LCD Ghosting (Accurate), LCD Ghosting (Fast) and Simple are the three options to choose from. I personally choose accurate.

Because the game has 2 different backgrounds and switches them every frame On the original Gameboy, thanks to the screen's ghosting effect, it appears as 2 different layers of background, creating a richer background, but on a display that doesn't suffer from ghosting it doesn't appear as intended

Playing it on super gameboy has the same issue despite being real nintendo hardware
