Around minute 28, Doug mentioned worldview assumptions built into most entertainment. Here is my list of many that may be missed. 1. You are the awesome one that will achieve greatness. Nothing and no one can stop you from getting what you want. Anyone that gets in the way is the villain in your heroic story and deserves to be ignored or stepped on. 2. Love is the pursuit of who you want, regardless of who you hurt while doing it. 3. Your failures/mistakes (they won't call it sin) are entirely the result of others mistreating you. 4. You deserve power, wealth, and prestige. 5. When minorities commit crimes, it's because they're pushing back against their oppression. 6. Follow your heart. It's the lamp to your feet and light to your path. 7. Casting off any bonds of morality or tradition from yesterday is inherently "progress". Pretty much every period piece taking place between 1870 and 1960. 8. The earth is millions of years old. 9. The villains are good deep down, but circumstances drove them to be villains. This suggests that we're all basically good. 10. Parents and other authority figures simply want to oppress you. Their restraint is a control move, not an act of loving protection. When the child rebels and it creates familial and societal chaos, it's the parents' fault. By the end, the parent is repentant and asking the child for forgiveness for driving the child to do all the harmful things. Then, the rebel ends with everything they wanted anyway and lives happily ever after (i.e. Little Mermaid). 11. The villain is a deliberate caricature of the God of the Bible. For example, Thanos - He has a vision of what a better world would look like, and it involves the elimination of at least half of its inhabitants. Furthermore, he doesn't care how much suffering he has to cause to bring it about, and is even willing to sacrifice his own child to make it happen. In contrast, the most humanistic and "scientific" character in the entire series is really the loving one who overcomes this god-like person (Thanos) by sacrificing himself to save humanity. Science will eventually save us not only from our problems, but from the problem of God. 12. History isn't something that actually happened. History is the perception or "truth" of the author/director. 13. There is no absolute truth. There is only "your truth". Remove the cursing, the nudity, and the gore. Then, wrap the above into an emotionally provoking story, make it a cartoon, and you have all the wrappings of modern "family" entertainment. Invoke Jesus or the Bible in a way that makes them supportive of the above, and it works even better.

Thank you for this. I am prepping to start really diving into helping my 8 year old discern alien worldview assumptions in media. This list is great

@@LaurenSheehan , I praise the Lord that you found it helpful. One came to mind later that I didn't edit into the list (KZbin tends to flag long comments as spam if I edit them). The father is a bumbling idiot that continually messes up. He's the butt of jokes. Meanwhile, the mother is the shining of example of what everyone should want to be. The disrespect of the father and the idolization of mother conveys some feministic sentiments. An example that comes to mind is the Berenstain Bears. This tears boys down and deceives them into realizing that they can't do/be any better. It tells girls that this is the kinda guy they'll just have to settle on marrying one day - it's just how men are, and it lowers their expectations of a mate. The extension of this is that the woman then feels justified in taking the lead and control in the relationship of a husband they knowingly married without respecting, because leadership can't be entrusted to such blundering, aloof goofballs.

Starting at 28:21 "Take entertainment standards. Too many Christian (entertainment standards are a big deal) tend to think of the problematic areas of entertainment as being the violence or the sexual stuff. And, this can obviously be a problem, but the deeper problem is the insinuation of alien worldview assumptions, many of which Christian parents don't even recognize." AMEN!!!! Finally, someone noticed and said it. I was born again at the age of 14 in the 1990s. Within 3 months, it was shockingly apparent to me that almost every movie (mostly Disney cartoons) and almost every class that I had ever taken in public school radiated a disdain for everything Biblical. Having realized that Disney perpetuated worldview lies to me throughout my childhood, I developed a zealous hatred for the Disney brand. Now, I'm about 40, and only with the open rise of LGBT have Christian parents started to kinda rethink if Disney is kinda dangerous. With only a few exceptions, I had to be very guarded in how I remarked on Disney in Christian circles if I didn't want to ignite an explosion. It's like if there isn't foul language and people don't get totally nude, it's "family friendly". And, if it has fighting, or a wizard character, or truly deranged villain, or even someone that drinks alcohol, it means the movie is too bad to watch, even if the story is loaded with Biblical themes and moral points. With the kinds of therapeutic bubble they put on themselves, they would make the Bible to be immoral literature if weren't the Bible, and Disney a few years ago would be the standard of wholesome entertainment. To this day, I've seen preachers that get nervous and twitch if they thought they would have to read some parts of Scripture to their congregations. So, certain passages just never get read. Or, they might even say, "Due to the content, we're not going to read this portion in mixed company with children, but just realize it was bad." Here's the thing parents. Your children are going to be exposed to radical evil, whether you like it or not. It would be better to say, "This evil exists in the world, and here are some accounts from the Bible of what God thinks of it and how He deals with it", than to just try to shelter them from knowing such things exist. If you don't do that, what will happen is that instead of being introduced to the issue from a Godly perspective, they will be first introduced from a perspective that makes it look appealing, pleasing, fun, harmless, safe, adventurous, helpful, etc... You literally set them up to fall for the sins and philosophies that you tried to prevent them from knowing about.

2 Corinthians 10 King James Version 10 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: 2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;👈 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience,👈when your obedience is fulfilled.👈 7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? if any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. 8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: 9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. 10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. 11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. 12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand. 17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

I mean that is literally what 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 is saying. You might not understand it in that translation, but that's what is being said. Here's the LSB. 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Now I make known to you, brothers, the gospel which I proclaimed as good news to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I proclaimed to you as good news, unless you believed for nothing.

Luke 7 22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. 23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. Mathew 11 4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. Jesus preached good news Paul preached good news 1 Corinthians 15 King James Version 15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you👉 first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 2 16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. good news 15 And your feet shod with the preparation👈of the gospel of peace; good news again Matthew 24:14 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. more good news ✍️ Acts 16:31 King James Version 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 1 Corinthians 15 King James Version 15 Moreover, brethren,👉I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you👈, which also ye have received, 👉and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved,👈if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: I just can’t find any scripture directly saying believe the gospel and you shall be saved But we know it is the good news we find Revelation 2 & 3 those that haven’t denied His Name and other interesting quotes It all points to Jesus but what we don’t find directly is believe the good news and you shall be saved Interesting 🤔 Just thoughts 💭 thinking on the eternal matters
