I, too, am 70 years old. And an organist. For 59 of those years. Out of all the thought of songs I’ve played. I bet I’ve played this song more times than any other. Definitely the song of time. Never gets old. RIP JON. We miss you. Perpendicular I think has some of his best works too.🤘🏻🎶🎶

As I come back to this cover I still can’t stop admiring the skyhigh standard of this cover. Rob could have got even- or even outdo the screamer duellists David Byron and Ian Gillan😉 in the wayback.. He’s got a fullbodied voice, can hit the high C’s and has a sharp musical ear. Andrei is such a virtuoso that he really should have got a wider audience by now. The same goes with Sina who lays down such a solid base where to build this living monument. Her drumming is so perfect and wonderful.. and she plays with so tender human touch and big heart. Thanks also to Ursula and Rick for their excellent contributions. You can hear it, there’s so much respect and love to the original music that I prefer this version.. I’m so impressed by you all that tears seep thru my eyes.❤❤‍🔥

To this version of this unique Deep Purple classic I can only say: the sheer madness!!! For me a top tribute to one of the greatest rock classics of all time!! What many do not think about "Child In Time": already in 1969 this song had its premiere at the "Concerto For Group And Orchestra", which Deep Purple recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. To this day, I can not see how Ian Gillan managed to reach such a high pitch - a tremendous power, a hammers achievement, especially from 1970 on "In Rock" and 1972 on their outstanding live-made "Made In Japan" to an audience of millions was granted. Sadly, Ian Gillan has been taking his toll on those vocals over the decades - Deep Purple performed "Child In Time" live in Moscow in 2001 and then dropped that classic out of the program - unlikely to return recorded in the live repertoire... Here we also have a great tribute to one of Rock's very big keyboard artists. As a great admirer of Johann Sebastian Bach, Jon Lord repeatedly incorporated classical music into his work, which was always noticeable in works such as "Child In Time". Rick Benbow lets Jon's work live on this release, and I'm sure Jon is really excited about it in Rock'n'Roll heaven. An outstanding version of "Child In Time", presented by five such musicians! It would be nice if the current Deep Purple lineup looks at this video, who knows, maybe Ritchie will drop by! And once again I have to address the video work - once more cinematic masterly succeeded, always great, as you can see in a variety of nuances, which meticulous work behind it. Once more all in all: both thumbs up from Germany!

Creating an amazing collab is like cooking - choose the finest ingredients, take your time, and assemble with care. How did Chef Mike whip this one up? Let's see... THE SONG - "Child In Time" was written by hard rock band Deep Purple members keyboardist Jon Lord, singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, drummer Ian Paice, and bassist Roger Glover. The opening section borrows heavily from another song, which will be explained shortly. "Child In Time" was recorded between Oct 14, 1969 and Apr 13, 1970 at IBC Studios in London for Purple's fourth studio album 'Deep Purple In Rock'. The other album tracks may have been recorded at various locations. The album was released on June 3, 1970. 'Deep Purple In Rock' entered the Billboard 200 at #198 on Sep 12, 1970, peaked at #143 on Nov 7, 1970, and was last seen at #178 on Jan 30,1971. The album did far better in the UK, peaking at #4. Regarding the writing question, Gillan explained, in a 2002 interview, "There are two sides to the song - the musical and the lyrical. On the musical side, there used to be this song "Bombay Calling" by a band called It's A Beautiful Day. Jon was one day playing it on his keyboard. It sounded good, and we thought we'd play around with it and do something new keeping that as a base. I had never heard the original "Bombay Calling". So we created this song using the Cold War as the theme, and wrote the lines "Sweet child in time, you'll see the line." That's how the lyrical side came in. Then, Jon had the keyboard parts ready and Ritchie had the guitar parts ready. The song basically reflected the mood of the moment." No copyright claims were known to have been made and It's A Beautiful Day returned the favor by copying Purple's song "Wring That Neck" (aka "Hard Road in the US) and called it "Don and Dewey". THE COLLABORATION - Putting together a team to take on "Child In Time" is no small undertaking. Sina was well prepared to take on Ian Paice having already done several Purple covers and a tutorial video. This project started in October 2018. Mike explained, "We finished drum recordings for "Child In Time" on October 25th and did the bass on Saturday the 27th. We met a new bass player. She came to our place and recorded the bass part." After that, Mike prepared a rough mix to send off to Rick and Andrei. Their parts were returned on November 8th and 11th respectively. Then the search for a vocalist capable of taking on Ian Gillan and his iconic banshee wails began. Mike and Sina made up a list of singers and, in turn, asked if they were interested. Like the search they had previously for an AC/DC tribute singer, it took a long time. Some of the singers turned down the project, some simply were not up to it. Finally, when the smoke cleared, the singer with the right stuff emerged - Rob Lundgren. Rob is a Swedish rock and metal singer based in Stockholm. He includes Russell Allen, Joe Lynn Turner and Bon Jovi among his many influences and sings with Reveal, Scientic, Barque of Dante, Starphyre, and Powerdrive. He's "got tons of Live Vocal Covers, Acapellas, Vocal Tutorials, Original Tracks and more" on his YT channel and offers vocal services. You may have seen him on a couple of Andrei's videos. The other new face is 17 year-old bassist Ursula Wienken. Hailing from Neuss, Germany, Ursula started playing bass 6 years ago and is very much into jazz but also likes rock. Sina met her at a jazz workshop called Jazzemble. Sina told us, "I asked her if she wanted to do a collaboration some time and luckily, she said yes." Andrei and Rick need no introduction. Rosanna had a chance to chat with them. Andrei told her, "I didn't pay much attention to Blackmore's style of playing, vibrato technique, string bending etc!. After I heard for the first time "Child in Time", which happened several years back, I realised that I need to pay attention to his playing because I had a lot to assimilate." She also asked if the solo was a challenge. Andrei said, "In my mind, this solo is different than the others made by him because it was hard for me to make connections between the licks and also remember the exact order of them, but after 2 hours I started to clarify it. Still, it was a challenge, indeed, but it was a pleasure to play the solo." Rick told Rosanna, "Deep Purple were certainly part of my listening collection when I was a teen though at the time I was more ambiguous about liking them. I appreciated the stuff that leaned more towards prog but found other tracks too simply ‘heavy’ and less interesting for me. However the ability and technique of this band was never in any doubt and Jon Lord’s classical leanings were mirrored by Ritchie Blackmore’s love of Bach and early music and when those influences crept through (as in the amazing track ’Burn’) I was a huge fan. Although Jon Lord was a very accomplished pianist, he defined a whole style of Hammond playing coupled with a definitive distorted sound that many keyboard players today admire and emulate. It was great to return to Deep purple for this project." Rosanna asked well-know Melbourne drummer Andrew Hutchison to join in again. He asked Sina - Q: In preparing for the cover were there any technical challenges to overcome from a drumming point of view? A: The guitar solo part was the most difficult part for me, because the left hand has to play a shuffle. Q: What would be your favourite Ian Paice drum moment? A: I would say it's the very first fill in "Smoke On The Water", that snare roll is just perfect! Q: What is your favourite Deep Purple song and why? A: My favorite songs change very often, but it's definitely "Child In Time" at the moment. It builds up in a beautiful way and is perfect to listen to in each and every situation. FUN FACT - Although Ritchie Blackmore is often seen playing a Fender Strat, his early work, including "Child In Time" was done with his 1961 Gibson ES-335 guitar. What we see as a 10 minute video took a lot of very hard and careful work both onscreen and off. A standing ovation for all involved!

Sina, I saw Deep Purple live 3 times in the 70's and early 80's and once again around 1997. I have always loved their music! This cover is outstanding!!! Ricks keyboard is perfect. If I didn't know, I would have thought Jon Lord was actually playing this! Andrei, you kicked ass! I think Blackmore would be proud!! I have seen/heard Rob Lundgren on his collabs with Andrei and absolutely loved his vocals! I have been hoping you would eventually use him for a vocal and this was the perfect song for that!! Hope we see Rob again very soon! Ursula handed the bass parts very well and I hope we see her again also!! And for percussion, well, Ian would be proud Sina!! You nailed it!! Everybody of these musicians did an incredible job. I'm a 50 year old guitar player and could never play this solo as good as he could. Drumming was great, hammond organ was great and do not forget the singer, these high parts should be done by others before criticism, and for real, to record such a song in this perfect way is specially a great thing. If someone ever did record a song, knows, what I mean! To give a thumb down can only be jealousy. Greetings from Germany.

Child In Time is a song which I play almost every day during last 20 years so I know every detail about it… Starting with the hammond intro, it has nearly perfect hammond setting… I did not see anyone playing it as close as the keyboard guy here, he played it exactly as it should be… I like it… The guitar solo is as perfect as Ritchie Blackmore’s one… no kidding… the guitar guy has exactly Ritchie’s sound and feel, with his own small modifications which are perfectly fit into the whole song… The drummer girl, the bass girl and the singer are also very talented and have perfect approach to perform this specific song… this is perhaps the best cover version of this song that I’ve ever heard… Thumbs up… keep rockin'

All I could think watching Sina play this intro is - The drum Doctor is in, LOL. Loved rock n roll since the 60's and never paid much attention to the drum sections until watching this girl play some amazing riffs with her magic stix. All her friends are excellent also! Thanks for turning this old man on to drums, I never knew!

Richie must be so pissed to know that he can be copied perfectly! He always rated himself as the best guitarist in the world. What a perfect rendition of one of DP’s best songs. And the singer matching Ian Gillan’s three octaves is just perfect. Sina, well she needs no introduction. She is just brilliant!

Vielen Dank.
