She ADMITTED that she's working a lower-paying job to get less of an income to reduce her child support payments. I was expecting to hear a sob story about "I had to leave the teaching job on doctor's orders because it was so stressful it was causing me heart palpitations. I've been trying to find a job in accounting or financial management, but in the few interviews I've had, they tell me that I don't have enough recent experience in financial services, so I took the only job I could get" THAT might have sold. But saying "I don't have to make that much money just to give it away" and "that's my prerogative" would make a judge's head explode. In my area, if someone tried to pull that they'd be spending the next six months weekends in jail (I'm not kidding, they do that)

My 17 year-old's father has worked under the table for the past 16 years to avoid child support. I gave up years ago. At the end of the day I'm an amazing mom and that's all that matters. Edit: It was interesting to read all the comments on my post. My son is now 18, has joined the ARMY and is studying online at Purdue University to obtain his Bachelors in Criminal Justice in the interim. My job as a mother has been a tough one, but I think I did a well enough job to give my son the tools to start a respectable and productive life. Child support would have been nice and certainly would have made some things easier, but I am just grateful I had the grit and wherewithal to raise my son with a good moral compass and integrity. Thanks for all the feedback.

Yes, I'm fully aware that they are "actors" but they are based on a true case, and those cases are teaching me a little more about law every day. I don't' live in Texas, but when I see something like THIS particular case, I can look up the laws in MY State and see how they correlate. I was able to help a friend not too long ago with HER child support based on what I learned from your show. We looked up the laws as it pertained to out State and BOOM! We had the answer we had DESPERATELY been searching for to make this deadbeat pay up! So, thank you, Vonda B! You're stories are helping real live people get justice.

That is EXACTLY the case. She was making 55k a year as a teacher and she quit THAT job and got a job as a store clerk making 30k a year (25k LESS) because (AS SHE SAID) she didn't want to make all that extra money if she was "just going to give it away anyway" to her kid. And then she tried to LIE to the good judge about what she was really making and the fact that she has a MASTERS degree in accounting and she is working as a store clerk earning 30 grand a year. It really DOES speak to how bad her character is. SHAME on her for not supporting her child. She says her daughter loves her so much and she should be living with her and not the plaintiff....but it DOES NOT sound like she loves her daughter as much as her daughter loves her....or she would be willing to support her child and not look like a ridiculous codfish gasping for air as the judge tells her what the total is for her child support. It serves her right that she got in trouble with Judge Vonda and had to pay more.

How in the world are these elderly folks that don’t seem to know how to make smart decisions able to adopt an innocent child.. what a terrible situation.

I’m wondering the same thing. How did these two old ladies get to adopt anybody.

My parents adopted me in their late 30s (mom) and early 40s (dad) and they often felt bad about being older parents. They weren't, but I do wish I had more time with my dad. It also made me more conscious of making sure I'm not taking advantage of the time I have left with my mom. To be completely honest, my parents were still young enough to have energy, but old enough to have their lives completely figured out. If they were 10 years older and not in a 1000% committed, loving, and supportive marriage I probably wouldn't have gotten the childhood I'm eternally grateful for now. The foundation of my self confidence started with a lot of patience, time, and love. They had all of those, but they were also very sharp mentally. They could see every bit of trouble I was about to get into from a mile away. They always let me know, and when I inevitably learned the lesson for myself they never made me feel bad about it. I would've been a monster if these two were my parents 😂
