Commendable what you're doing.

First let me break down the lies in this video. Children are used for political reasons. Israel has an large Arab population and the Jews are encouraged to have more children so that they remain the majority. 2, Arabs in Israel are treated like second class citizens and Jews are always prioritized. Christian run schools receive less government funding than Jewish schools. 3. Israel restricts where Palestinians can go, what they can do, and where they can live. Israel sees them as pests and have even banned people talking about the Palestinian genocide the nakba which is the forced displacement of millions of Palestinians.
@heroispro4201

@@alileevil 1. Israel is a jewish country so it doesn't matter if they want to make as many children as they want to keep it as such. 2. Ask any israeli arab do you want to live under israeli governance or palestinian governance 8/10 will say israeli. 3. Israel restricts them because they don't want hostile immigrants in their country and since 2nd intifada israel's policy has changed 180. from peace to national security. 4. Nakba wasn't a genocide, first go and read the definition of genocide. more people have been displaced by orders of arab leaders in 1948 than by IDF. from 1947-49 more than 40 million indians and pakistanis were displaced becuase of partition, today they are completely assimilated in their country so palestinians weren't the only ones displaced of their homes. it happened everywhere in the world in the last century, Japanese, germans, greeks, etc.

I'm diaspora African in Europe and living in London, in Christian and my husband is Carribean. We went to Israel and I notice how people love kids and how dads are comfortable pushing buggy and very patient when they see kids. I see the Jewish woman has a superwoman, she can have her kids and spend time with her cause the man has her back, because he was brought that way. And I believe everybody has experience with children cause everybody grew up with sibling and helped out, the men when they grow up and have their baby, they don't shy away from the role, and the ladies can be mothers knowing the have someone supportive. In the west some people from non westerner background, are open to the idea of having more kids, but certain things need to be in place, otherwise it is traumatic, especially for the mother. Is all about the society

You think Israel is heaven for families...Perhaps what you don't see is the high divorce rate, esp. among secular israelis. What drives this is the socio-economic stress associated with raising a family with three childen. Everybody has three kids! Life in Israel is expensive, both parents have to work in order to afford raising these kids. Israeli society is very conformist. There is a lot of pressure on the parents to provide the kiddies with everything that their friends kids have - the latest cell fone, the latest computer game, the latest travel destination, etc, etc. So for a long period of time parents are slaves to what they created and this leads to a build up of stress, lack of intimacy, estrangement in the relationship. Then when the kids are a little older, the stress lifts and the marriage explodes.

Hi! Oren you speak well with a little humor too! I'm an American living in Israel almost 50 years!! Can't believe it myself! My 7 children are married now with families of their own!. We are all considered orthodox Jews& I must reiterate that all of my children have completed their high school education plus their BA (or BSc ) degree. All of them consider Torah learning as the most prominent aspect of their lives....their degrees help them contribute to the working society- as teachers, engineers, nurses, high- tech.,accountants, architects & dayanim--but their personal lives show that they'll encourage Torah observance as superior & the most meaningful in their lives- especially emphasizing this in educating their children. This is the amazing power ofJews as a demographic.

I know what you mean. I owe my education to my Jewish community. I grew up in a large suburban community with a huge Jewish diaspora. I lived around the corner from them and later I would discover that every parent in that household had an advanced degree. They put a lot of pressure on the school system because they not only had children in it but also paid the most in taxes -- they wanted their money's worth! I received the equivalent of a private school education through high school. There was even enough money for a trade school for students who didn't plan on going to college but would prepare them for the trades so they could get apprenticeships quickly. It was great until they began moving away... their children were graduating and leaving the "nest." They sold their homes and left the area... and took their tax money with them! In the meantime, our local economy took "hits" and the welfare population in town exploded. Before I graduated, I saw the school system reduced to the basics -- what was required by law. The tech school closed. Extracurricular was also at a min. No more lacrosse, tennis or hockey but they have a football team, of course. We used to have swim teams but the pools have been filled with concrete. The students don't learn home economics or auto maintenance let alone Latin & Portuguese either. Just Spanish and maybe French. Now, wealthy families send their kids to private schools while the public school kids are trying to figure out which bathroom to use. Because that's what happens when you have a disproportionate number of people on public services versus high income earners. That's what is going to happen in Israel if they don't stay ahead of the "freeloaders." 😉😘

Belgium is the second most densely populated proper country in Europe (I exclude the Vatican City, Monaco and San Marino , a large part of the registered population living outside of the territory of these micro-states). WHERE, in grossly over-populated Belgium, are all of your siblings going to live ? Anyone siring or giving birth to more than two children should be ashamed of themselves. Did you know that in 6 and possibly 7 African states that giraffes have been hunted to extinction by the multiplying and therefore hungry human population, there is a lot of meat on a giraffe. Unlike humans, giraffes do not drive cars, have no interest in nuclear power stations, and I cannot think that more than a handful of them will ever take it into their heads to fly in a polluting aeroplane. Meanwhile, human beings are destroying the planet. Who has the greatest right to live ..... giraffes or human breeding machines ? Those who want the supposed JOY of one child after another are gratuitously selfish and irresponsible. As Oren says, it is a grossly irresponsible sector of HIS population that is placing a burden on the more responsible which will, as he says, lead to the burden becoming intolerable. He suggests that the responsible population may leave. My money is on an almighty backlash against the Orthodox with them being fenced into their breeding hives and left to get on with it. NO MORE BENEFITS. The more responsible will insist on an income threshold for the right to vote in Knesset elections which will exclude the vast majority of the Orthodox and lead to a more sensible government. Never mind a two state solution, we may see a three state solution. From inside their enclaves, they will undoubtedly appeal to their brethren in New York for food aid which will be forthcoming, paid for by the taxes of the general American population, (despised, of course, just like you and I are despised, by the Orthodox as "Beasts walking on two legs") ..... at least, until the American beasts walking on two legs work out what is going on and mount a backlash of their own. THEN WHAT ? What your parents have done is water under the bridge but let us hope that you and your siblings will be more responsible.

@@VSFilly Vanessa, you divine creature, Tell me where Jesus told us as Christians that we should go forth and multiply. As a Christian, you will be familiar with Matthew 5 in which Jesus declared, "It has been written ..... but " " " I " " " say unto you" consigning the Old Testament to be a history of quarrelling, murder, genocide, and superstition. There are far too many human beings on the planet fowling the nest. We have the sea full of plastics and dangerous chemicals including nuclear waste. We have had a huge area of the Amazon Rain Forest destroyed because Bolsonaro released millions and millions of third, fourth and fifth sons of peasant farmers to slash, burn, destroy, an action that will affect the climate and therefore affect YOU. We have rain forest in Sumatra being destroyed to make way for palm oil plantations and many across the World wailing, "How terrible" when those wailing are responsible for it. Palm Oil is a wonderful product. It is very useful in making biscuits. Who eats biscuits ? Children do. Fewer children ..... less demand for palm oil .... no more destroying forests in Sumatra. We have God's poor creatures being wiped out from the natural environment and fluffy lambs, beautiful calves, and mischievious goats living short lives of misery, their end coming long before their natural time in the animal equivalent of Belsen and Birkenau to satisfy the growing demand of vile unthinking and breeding meat-eaters. We have ever more dangerous chemicals being used on ever increasing areas of agricultural land to produce more and more food for the ever increasing number of predatory human animals. You show me any country with a high birth rate and I will show you abject poverty including among the grossly irresponsible human population of the United States of America. A recent report concluded that 37 million people in America are living in abject poverty. They are in abject poverty not because they are all lazy, (some are) but often because they are kept down by the "Haves" who, breeding irresponsibly themselves, want to hang onto what they have got and they are not prepared to share. The population of Nigeria grew by 5.2 million last year, leading to over a million of them attempting to cross the Sahara with the intention of invading Europe. The population of Afghanistan, a country NOT noted for inward migration, despite all the killing, has increased from a little under 4 million 50 years ago to 40.2 million today (UN estimate) and because they are facing mass starvation, WE are supposed to provide them with vast amounts of food aid. If we are stupid enough to provide that food aid it will only allow more Afghan men to abuse even more women using them as breeding machines. Afghanistan is now at its' limit of food production. In 50 year time, at the current rate of breeding, there will be 400 million of them. WHERE ARE THEY ALL GOING TO LIVE ? I'll tell you. You will have to make room for two or three of them in YOUR home ! You will then live in fear as just one act of perceived blasphemy and they will kill you. The United Nations MUST be persuaded to introduce a Worldwide Chinese-style birth-rate reduction policy, enforced militarily, if necessary, against reluctant regimes. This will include the offer of an IUD to all 12 year old girls with a guarantee that, if they accept the offer, their Mums won't be told. IT IS OUR ONLY HOPE FOR ANY FUTURE QUALITY OF LIFE. If you want a glimpse of the kind of future we are facing with continued irresponsible breeding, read "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. You may live long enough to be confined, as we all will, to a small room with large screen TV, food in tablet form delivered to you by machine. You will not be allowed out because the pressure from the huge population will be so great that travel will not be possible. Because new children will have to be born for the future of the species, to make room for them, you will already know the date and time, a few years hence, for your scheduled euthanasia. THAT IS COMING OUR WAY IF YOU CONTINUE TO BREED IRRESPONSIBLY.

Such a good and interesting video! I am from Bulgaria 🇧🇬 and want to say, that only some East-Orthodox Christians have this mindset that they have to be childless and go serving God in Orthodox Churches. I am a Protestant Christian and I can say that I have rarely seen Protestant families with less than 2-3 kids, I grew up with 2 younger sisters and my aunt (who is also a Protestant) has 5 children, all of them wanted. We believe that every child is a gift and a prize from the Lord, as it is written in Psalms 127:3 and we believe that when God gives you a child no matter the iconomic state of the country, He will provide every need to raise these children. So not only the Jews have this mindset. Thank you for making such helpful and interesting videos! Looking forward for more! :)

This is not really the case. Monks do devote to Christ only, without family, priests have families. I am an Orthodox Christian from Bulgaria, my husband is a priest, and IT specialist, too. We have 5 children for 10 years of marriage. In our tradition lots of kids is a must have. Just we left our holy tradition and faith and followed other selfish philosophies. What I find most fascinating is that many secular families have 4 kids whereas in the past, like 20 years ago, secular families would have 3 kids at the most. I'm not as pessimistic as you are. I have close relatives that are ultra-orthodox and I see the change as more men go out to work nowadays. Among the Arabs the birthrate is going down since many women have academic education. In the whole world the equation is that the more educated a woman is, the less children she has or none at all. In Israel educated women have children. As a matter of fact, many women feel that they are expected to have a university degree and have at least 2 children. I hope our obsession for children doesn't die out despite attempts (especially by "Haaretz" newspaper) to convince Israelis that having children is a sin against humanity... And I like your honest attitude, Oren!

Subcultures and niches within every western country still have traditional beliefs that promote fertility, marriage, patriarchy, and large families. Some are college educated and some are not. The crazy thing is that the women who are childless are not necessarily more financially stable nor more content than those with children. Being child free is definitely based more on fear and the rise of female and male incels than supposed ethics or even just hedonism.

Well the main problem is that in Israel one problem is growing on top of another one. You have the Middle East conflict which leads to relatively high defense spending, then you have the fact that land is scarce and highly contested and trying to put the pressure of of the big cities via settlements is going to add more fuel to the conflict. Due to limited land,a growing population, expensive food certification , the fact that Israel is an island when it comes to trade thanks to the conflict and the high percentage of highly taxed imports live is already expensive, plus paying for the ultra Orthodox who neither work nor contribute to the country’s security by serving in the IDF and so it just goes on and on. It’s just an infinite story with many moving parts. And when they try to fix one problem the solution will cause trouble elsewhere.

@@NormieNeko actually studies show repeatedly that child free women are easily as happy (and often more happy) than women with children. It really depends on the person and not all people are meant to be parents (think of how many people you know or have heard of that have had high abusive parents) or find parenting fulfilling rather than draining. But a simple fact is that having that many children is a recipe for staying poor (and for Israel that could mean annihilation- considering just how their neighbours think of them and the fact the US is losing interest in the region).

As a Jewish woman who was raised in a Western country without knowledge about my Jewish heritage, I can tell you that it is just a reflection of society. Western society expects just the women to do all the work of raising kids. Now men are being accountable too, but the number of divorce and fathers that just abandon their kids is way too high! In the Jewish community grandparents, uncles and aunts, even neighbors help the couple to raise the kid. When I met my Jewish family I understood the saying "it takes a village to raise a child".

They are largely poor, because, in addition to looking after the entire tribe of kids single-handedly, the women are forced out to work to obtain a crust to feed the kids AND the lazy husband. I am English. Throughout my childhood, my Dad worked an average of 60 hours per week plus travelling time yet he still found plenty of time for us. His idea of washing up was to THREATEN the dirty dishes with the washing up brush meaning that most of it had to be done again but he still showed willing. He was a adept at using the vacuum cleaner as my Mum. My parents were responsible having just my brother and I, so, as a family we were not beggars at museums as Marie Munzar above suggests that many American parents are. Not that that was a problem in Britain as the vast majority of museums and galleries have free entry.

I'm a Palestinian Christian living in Canada, and I have to say that this was a fascinating video. Though I can't say that having large families is something exclusive to Jews-- I think most Middle Eastern cultures view children as a joy. Families in the ME are usually quite large, at least 3 to 5 kids for the most part, unless there were medical reasons as to why couples couldn't have kids.

As a Latin American woman, I see that here having more than 4 children is frowned upon as something only poor uneducated people do. The better off you are economically the less children you're encouraged to have. Mostly because I live in a generally poor country and to become well off both partners in a marriage need to work long hours just for necessities, so if you add on top of that furthering your education to really get somewhere in life you really don't have the time in the day (or the money) to have more than 2 or 3 kids. The burden of childcare also falls squarely on the mother's shoulders, with very few man counting fatherhood as a life goal. It's nice to see that Jewish men are more committed to fatherhood. Thanks for this perspective Oren

Yes, men get that way when the government provides support for women and children. But it seems in latin America people are more concerned about the western way of life without the work ethic that goes with it. Think of the millions and millions of young men who have left to come to the US, and think of the political structure that keeps the people from prospering, the crime. I also think a society with more kids is a happier society. But as somebody who lived in India, I have to say it's very important to take into consideration people's freedoom and choices. In India people are almost forced to have kids. What happens with this is that sometimes the parents were not really in a happy or chosen marriage. Or they had dreams and personal things they wanted to fullfill and develop. Then they end up being frustrated parents, and their kids have very unhappy childhoods. Having kids is the best but if someonw is not in a happy marriage or is not sure about their partner or they carry themselves a lot of family trauma... I would say do not have kids under those conditions.

Hello Oren, most of the Orthodox that i grew up with all worked. Even the men had jobs, not all spend the day studying. Yes it is a higher "mitzvah" but like the rest if the world some boys do not have the ability to sit and study books all day. 😊 True that some are poorer than others and there is a ton of tzedaka sent to Israeli haredi from other countries to help support them and their families. We had boxes everywhere in our house for different groups or kibbutzim that were in need of assistance and hosted the collectors when they came through our town. I hope that we see you and your family well and we all come through this stronger and less divided.❤

50% of ultra orthodox men work in the larger economy. There is also a sizeable underground economy in Israel in all sectors of the population. The money there may not always find its way directly to the tax authorities, but since it does get spent and put back in circulation, some of it gets to the government in the form of value added tax (similar to sales tax). Also, many of the full time Torah learners will eventually cut down on their learning time and join the general economy, either by providing religious services to the general population or by taking crash courses in the secular subjects they need to get a job or start a business. A surprisingly high number end up in the hi tech industry. There is no better prep for math and science based thinking than years of Talmud study.

If it’s okay for a man to make a living and the woman raise the kids during a workplace break why isn’t it okay for a woman to make a living and the man spend time learning? The ultra orthodox think the reason the country isn’t bombed from outsiders and they have not been forced to flee it is adherence to the Torah and Torah study is adherence to the Torah. That said I would not want the taking care of the kids and the financial responsibility all on me. How many jobs in Mo idin need high school or college? Can’t the man just spend 10 hours on Talmud study and work another 40? Shouldn’t the sons learn at home with their father’s together?

Hi Oren, My wife and I love your videos and have been following your channel since you started. My wife grew up in Jerusalem and I met her while in a modern orthodox yeshiva 30 years ago. We were actually in Israel a few weeks ago visiting her family. We were hoping to run into you to tell you in person how much we enjoy your channel. My wife has 7 siblings, her father retired from the police department in Israel years ago and now spends his time in religious studies. Her mother was a school teacher. Both orthodox people that worked and paid their share of tax. We appreciate your perspective because it is honest and respectful. The Jewish community including the Ultra Orthodox was decimated less than 100 years ago during the Holocaust. The insular nature of the Jewish community and the birth rate is a direct result of the Holocaust. Although we agree with your politics most of the time we feel you misrepresented the education and work situation of the ultra orthodox. While there are a lot of people in the ultra orthodox community that survive on the government subsidizing their income , there are a lot of people in those communities that own and operate businesses or work in addition to their religious studies. As you mentioned, a lot of the women in these communities are employed. The people who own businesses or are working are paying income tax. This is not a phenomenon only in Israel, but world wide and seen in other cultures as well. We see it in the US including in Wisconsin and Europe sees it also. Keep the great videos coming!!

Hello i'm from Germany. In Germany the people have fewer and fewer children and they are becoming increasingly unhappy. But if they have children, the parents work all day, sometimes til 5 p.m. and the children are at school or kindergarden all day. There is little family life, it is all about earning money to support the family and/or get status. Even for women, our society tells women that just being a mother is no longer enough, we have to become career women and put ourselves on an equal footing with men. But that doesn't makes anyone happy. It is possible to have many children in germany but it is not held in high esteem here and hardly anyone can afford it. I rather would live in Israel than in germany - because where the childrens are, there is Joy ❤

In England for example we owned a large house, fancy car and all the trimmings. Everything inside the garden was mine. On returning home to Israel I looked out through the window of my modest home and saw the view. The whole country was mine. That's the difference! I have changed jobs. Now I haul an 18 wheeler semi trailer throughout this magical and blessed land and am proud to do so. Our sense of values rubs off on the kids. Probably due to the climate and the feeling in this country of being part of a huge extended and nosey (sometimes rude)caring family contributes to healthy and well adjusted children.

Oren seems to resent it a little bit too, as nice and fair as he generally is. A society can't be sustainable with such a rapidly-growing segment of the population that doesn't contribute to the economy and depends on welfare, and what compounds it in Israel is that a lot of these ultra-Orthodox sects aren't even loyal to the Jewish state. Some even actively oppose it and think it shouldn't exist, which is crazy, because it literally keeps them alive. They live there, enjoy the protection and security of its police and military, as well as its welfare state, but refuse to serve in the military, and don't want their children educated. The Ultra-Orthodox are peaceful and law-abiding, but still it's totally understandable how the mainstream of Israeli society resents them and some even despise them.

The flaw in your logic is that you assume that the 'work for a living' model will continue indefinitely. This is changing right in front of our eyes. AI is changing all of these assumptions and the world will need to move to a Universal Base Income model. The countries that will succeed most are those that innovate and adapt quickly to the new realities. THIS is what Israel does best and is why I am optimistic.

Shalom David, there are many orthodox that work, but I said it in the video. The facts are obvious- Jews not working is a modern Israeli (bad) invention. Secular Jews pay six times more taxes. Orthodox cities survive from the money of secular cities, and if we will stop going to the Army and leave Israel, the Arabs will make Matzeballs out of you. AI has nothing to do with it. I must say that I am surprised by the weak arguments of the Orthodox Jews. You think that you are so bright, but your arguments are so weak. I really don’t want to offend you, but I think that because you live in a closed society and you constantly tell yourself that God chose you that you are losing touch with reality. (You as the Orthodox society )

It’s none of anyone’s business whether you have kids or not. Just like it’s none of anyone’s business what your religion on non religion is. It doesn’t make you more virtuous if you have kids or don’t, and it doesn’t make you more virtuous if you have a religion or not. It’s a personal choice you have to make for yourself. The key thing is to mind your own business and get out of other people’s personal lives. That’s how you avoid conflict and live a good life.

There is also a strongg similarity between the ultra orthodox jews , who are poor, and ultra orthodox indians, who are poor too and are mostly priests( pandits/ Sastrigals, etc in indian languages). Family culture, number of kids and education system is very similar to how it is in India. I can hence totally agree and feel it. Really happy to know such similarities and i have always loved Jews and Israelis.

Very interesting and informative video Keep up the great work 👍 👏 Well at least Israeli children don't get beaten (hopefully) As an Indian 16 yo boi, we (mostly boys) get beaten up by our teachers, parents, coaches or trainers(after school educational lessons are VERY popular and common here, they are referred to as 'tuitions') and even elder siblings. And most shocking thing is that parents aren't at all bothered by the fact that their children get beaten up by their teachers, all just for not having a good handwriting or for not bringing a textbook. Infact a lot of parents encourage teachers to hit us more, especially using peddle(not professional ones, just a wooden slab from maybe a broken chair or table, sometimes even with Crooked nails in it) or other tools. Add to that an education system so rigorous and harsh, poor infrastructure (which brings its own problems), religious superstitions, ignorance of adults(and people in general),household work and killer weather and awful pollution and poverty.

Having children is extremely important in the orthodox christian religion too... Also a person can dedicate his life to God by starting a family too. Our priests are married with many children. The monks that do not marry are a small minority of 0,0001% of the population.

A shrinking society is not a dying society. It would be only if the shrinkage continued indefinitely. But if the population shrank for a few generations and then stabilized, it would be fine. And in most countries that's exactly what should happen. Because the earth doesn't have sufficient resources for 8+ billion people to have a high standard of living. If the average Indian or Chinese lived like the average American, we would all be screwed. This creates a cycle of poverty wherein some people have to remain poor for others to enjoy a "first world" standard of living. The earth's population should decrease and stabilize at a level where every human has a standard of living which today would be considered "first world". But yes, the case of Israel is different due to their history of being the victims of genocide and persecution.

It is called a double burden here in the west ,Women have regular full time demanding jobs, and once they come back home after a long day at work, , there is another more demanding full time job which consists of feeding and taking care of kids , dogs, elderly parents and home in general. It feels like slavery, although it technically isn't.. All that while still struggling to pay bills with rising costs of food, housing and everything else. Being child free is sounding more and more like the right thing to do......

I am really sad to agree with you 100%. I left Israel as a kibbutznik child in 1989 and can hardly recognize society there these days. Everyone in my family has kids, but my friends in The Netherlands maybe half of them have kids and also in my husbands family it is very normal not to have kids. I am not optimistic about the future of Israel, but I do hope it will find a way to make it work.

I must live in a bubble. We live in Charedi Yishuv in the Shomron. Not because I am Charedi(I am observant though) but because when we came to Israel, it was a cheap place to live and we thought we would save money and find another place away from her. Guess what? All of the real estate prices went through the roof and our landlord was really awful...so we bought here because the prices at that time were cheaper than most of Israel Now, we have been here for many, many years and I can say that many of people here work Bus drivers, computer repair techs, small business owners, home repair guys even a couple of lawyers Women are teachers and there is many day care places run by people in their home There are some that live in the Kollel, but at least where we live, most people work.
