The cinematography failed to capture the essence of African music. The instruments are supposed to be heard, and the performers watched. The photographer seemed to be enomoured with the instrumentalists and missed the dancers.... especially on the dance Otwenge
@mguleff10 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree, the photographer (me) was very enamored with the instrumentalists. This is an event I walked in on so the shoot is spontaneous and, yes, there are many problems. But for me the essence of African music is its polyrhythmic brilliance and I tried to capture this conversation between the instrumentalists. There are some good dance shots but it would have been better to have multiple cameras to be able to capture everything.

White people terrified for no reason. It is amazing for me to understand how people can just sit and watch and not get into the rhythm of the music and drums. I'd be jumping up and down all over. having a great time.

He positioned himself at the back of the line where he could see the drummers. He might be an American musician trying to divine what makes African music go
