One lowering at each of the two public highway level crossings in Chilham, either side of its railway station, within the Kent downs a few miles out of Canterbury. These videos of these two 2003/2004 installs, controlled from the Wye Area Signalling Centre in Canterbury which also now has control of the more recently-renewed crossings at Wye and Chartham, come from the first genuinely pleasant day (weather wise) of 2024, and there was a real sense of Spring arriving. It's still a very odd sight to see lights in-sync but flashing oppositely to each other, and that is still what both of these crossings do. Both level crossings are quiet; 'Mill' is on a no-through road, and while 'Road' is on a through-road it gets incredibly bendy, narrow, and blind not too far past the crossing on already tight and blind bends. Neither crossing has changed at all since my previous visit nearly three years ago now.
Two high-speed 'Javelins' and one 'Electrostar' provide the train action in this video. Everything is scattered slightly differently to before thanks to the opening of Thanet Parkway. Hope you enjoy!
