The term is also applied in other scenarios where one character is the serious anchor and the others are allowed to be more eccentric; This is what the OP meant. Sean usually has to play the straight man to let the guests shine, but because Klaus is usually the host on his show and knows the details of the peppers, etc., it allows Sean to be more himself.
