Mr Lwara is probably right. Chilima could be the best candidate for 2025. He has my vote. I have always supported his agenda and manifesto. But Chilima needs to clear his name in the courts. In addition there is a constitutional issue regarding his eligibility which needs to be clarified. If he is eligible to stand I would encourage him to collaborate and forge a formidable coalition with other youthful leaders such as Kamuzu Chibambo, Enock Chihana, Atupele Muluzi, Mnnesa etc. They would need to strengthen grassroot structures. Chilima has a formidable campaign strategy as well as a marketable manifesto. And he is charismatic. He knows the art of moving crowds. The Chilima led team needs to approach and strategise their campaign from a three pronged approach: a) Rural masses: these constitute 85% of the population. The campaign should be responsive to the needs of the rural folk. b) Youth: Malawi has a youthful population of about 80%. The campaign must speak to the needs of these youth c) Gender: women constitute about 52% of the population. Need to attract the women vote. Probably need to pick a woman running mate to make the ticket more attractive. Free advice to the Mr Lwara and team

UTM has to establish and strengthen structures on the ground. And they should start campaign in earnest. Time is not on their side. UTM should also begin to work on strategic alliance.
